ca Course Description The FSL program of studies is centered on four outcomes: Communication o Listening Comprehension understand, in guided situations, by identifying key words or expressions previously taught, the main idea(s) or isolated details about a variety of concrete topics contained in authentic or adapted oral texts o Reading Comprehension understand, in guided situations, by identifying key words or expressions previously taught, the main idea(s) or isolated details about a variety of concrete topics contained in authentic or adapted written texts o Oral Production name, list, encourage, describe, explain, ask and answer questions, give simple commands, directions, instructions or advice, express needs, desires, wishes and preferences, make suggestions, give compliments, orally, providing some detail, in a defined, structured and modeled fashion, with limited spontaneity, resulting in a prepared message expressed in the present, that is comprehensible and accurate o Written Production name, label, list, describe, explain, ask and answer questions, give simple commands, directions, instructions or advice, express needs, desires, wishes and preferences, make suggestions, in written form, providing some detail, in a defined, structured and modeled fashion, resulting in a prepared message expressed in the present, that is comprehensible and accurate Language o Students will use their knowledge of French to understand and/or express a message effectively in various situations for a variety of purposes. Culture o Students will use their knowledge of different Francophone cultures and of their own culture to be able to interact appropriately within these cultures. Language learning strategies o Students will use their knowledge of strategies to enhance learning and to communicate in French.

In grade 7, students will review materials and skills from previous years as well as be encouraged to expand vocabulary, increase oral and written communication skills, and experience various aspects of French culture. Methodology Students will work individually, in pairs, and in small groups in order to develop basic interpersonal communication skills and academic language within the four domains of language: reading, writing, listening, and speaking. These four skills will be taught through texts, communicative activities, movies, presentations, games, journals and grammar exercises.
