War of 1812

Montreal was a very populous and trading area that wouldve been a good place to invade first but instead they invaded Detroit, Niagara, and Lake Champlain. Navy invasions were more successful than army/land invasions.\ Great Lakes Control over the Great Lakes was vital. Oliver Hazard Perry was able to build a fleet of ships and capture a British fleet. However, General Harissons army beat them at the Battle of the Thames in October 1813. British invasion of New York Supplies for the invasion were brought over through the Champlain waterway Thomas Macdonough challenged the British with their American fleet in Plattsburgh on floating slaughterhouses. This turned out to be a victory for the Americans. It affected the concurrent negotiations of the AngloAmerican peace treaty in Europe. Washington D.C. Bladensburg races, a British militia, invaded the capital and set fire to ost of the buildings including the Capitol and the White House. In Baltimore the Americans stayed firm as well as Fort McHenry. Fort McHenry Was being attacked by British armies and militias with cannons pero lykethey couldnt capture the city. While this was going on, the writing of the Star Spangled Banner was being created as Francis Scott Key began gaining insight for its creation. Battle of New Orleans A blow for the British and menaced the entire Mississippi Valley. Andre Jackson took command with his strong Navy and militiamen from Louisiana, Kentucky, and Tennessee. This was another victory for the Americans and was quoted like a clap of thunder. Treaty of Ghent Signed on Christmas Eve, was an essential armistice that both sides (British and Americans) wanted to stop fighting and restore conquered territory. However it DID NOT deal with the fact that the British took part in the Indian menace, searches and seizures, Orders in Council, impressment, and confiscations. Evidence of the insincerity of the War Hawks

Blue Light Federalists were treacherous New Englanders that supposedly flashed lanterns on the shore so that blockading British cruisers would be altered to the attempted escape of American ships Hartford Convention Hartford Convention, called my Massachusetts after the capture of New Orleans, in Connecticut to discuss grievances and to seek redress for their wrongs.
