Directional Control by Rudder

Directional control is achieved by Rudder deflection Rudder: hinged flap which is located at aft of vertical tail Rudder deflection creates additional lift force (side force) on vertical tail thereby, producing yawing moment about C.G.

Rudder Requirements

Yawing Moment Coefficient

Rudder Control Effectiveness

Rate of change of yawing moment with rudder deflection angle

Rudder Deflection to generate Side Slip

Directional Stability

Generally -0.001/deg
