Crooked Tree Arts Center


461 East Mitchell Street Petoskey, MI 49770 (231) 347-4337 The Arts Center is a Gallery and performing arts center. It is a great place to take children to view art from different genres. When performances are held, students can go to see them as a class or encouraged to have their parents take them. Performances range from theatre, musical and singing, as well as dance including ballet and fusion. The gallery puts on art shows and fundraisers and is open to the public for viewing. The Center also hosts a Best Of arts display where local schools submit art pieces from students to be shown for several weeks.

Sturgeon River Pottery


3031 Charlevoix Road Petoskey, MI 49770 (231) 347-0590 This pottery studio includes a gallery of items from the artist that owns it and the class could visit the studio to view the art and see how the pottery is made. They could get a demonstration and participate in making a pottery piece. This would be a great trip when learning about Indian artifacts and how clay and pottery played such an important role in their lives.

Mackinac Art Museum

This would be a great trip to make when talking about Michigans History, and the role of Mackinac Island in the states beginning and how it has progressed through the years.

Interlochen Center for the Arts


PO Box 199 9900 Diamond Park Rd Interlochen, MI 49643-0199 (231) 276-7200 Interlochen showcases musical, theatre, art and dance performances throughout the year performed not only professionally, but also by students of the center. Any time during the year that a particular genre of art can tie in to what is being learned, the teacher could plan a trip to the center to view a performance or experience the art firsthand by students and professionals.

North Central Michigan College College for Kids

This isnt necessarily a resource that teachers could during the school year, but is definitely something they could encourage students to look into for the summer. The college offers classes for kids in all curricular areas, but relating to the arts, they have creative writing courses as well as dance and theatre classes.
