What is SEA ?...
 A Sub- Structuring analysis method to predict the of multi
modal noise or vibration response in each sub
structure region or `subsystem’

 Loads and sources of acoustic excitation defined by time

averaged transfer of “power” from source field into the
resonant modes of the subsystem.

 Structure-borne and airborne noise transmission problem

represented as “Diffusion” or flow of energy from
subsystems of higher modal energy to regions of lower
modal energy.
Why choose SEA ?...
 Finite Element Analysis (FEA) & Boundary Element Analysis
(BEA) effectively describe noise and vibration behavior in
the lower frequency ranges.

 As the frequency increases, wavelengths get orders of

magnitude smaller and the complexity of system
dynamics “ explodes.”
Why choose SEA ?...
Increased frequency range presents 3 challenges.

 The system dynamics are no longer absolutely predictable

(“deterministic”) Only possibility - to predict the statistics
of the system dynamics in discrete frequency bands.

 Acoustic sources at mid to high frequencies are typically

random and only partially space-correlated.

 Deterministic modeling becomes impractical as it takes too

long to model all the detail involved; the numerical problem
becomes too large and the CAE process is too slow to
influence design.
General Procedure for SEA
he General procedure for solving a problem using SEA
Problem Definition

 To calculate Noise Level in Passenger compartment and Dominant Energy Peaks in sub-systems

Result

 Damping of Dashboard, Firewall maybe

increased.

 Damping of Roof Plates 1,2 & 3 maybe

increased more than the roof.
Conclusion….
 The optimization procedure and the
SEA analysis for the SUV model is
explained

 The optimum design process in SEA

framework is proposed.
