WARM UP 5 Minutes Explain to the learners that today we will be using the Computer Lab to publish our stories. Go over the expectations of behaviour while in the computer room. Learners will need their first draft of their story ( Scrapbook blue dot). Move quietly to the computer lab. DOL 1: Attitudes and Perceptions (Experience a sense of comfort and order)

I DO: Using the projector, step the learners through the process of logging into the computer. All learners have their own login cards with their passwords on them. Use the teacher aide to help with learners who are having difficulty logging into the network. Direct learners attention to the front screen. Locate the Microsoft PowerPoint icon on the front of the screen. Double click to open. Allow learners to complete that step. Now that everyone is up to the same stage, have learners put their hands in their laps and concentrate on the main screen for the I DO phrase. Talk aloud about how to publish the story. Remember we need to have a slide for each page. Demonstrate how to insert a slide into the document. Type the title of the story on the first slide Bambis Balloon Click on the left hand side box and add in a slide. Call this page 1. Before you go any further, click on the save button and save the file to my documents. All learners will have their own documents folder on their computer. Continue on with typing in your story. (the story will only have 5 pages max. 1 x title page with student name, 3 pages of the story (one sentence per page).

Microsoft PowerPoint DOL 2: helping students acquire knowledge

Ask if everyone understands what is to be done in this lesson. Let the learners know that they have both the teacher and teacher aide there to help and support them. All they need to do is put up their hand. WE DO: 30 minutes For the purpose of todays lesson, we are going to skip through the WE DO stage, and recap on how to save and add in a slide. Do this together as a group, stepping through the process. Click on the SAVE tab (little blue disc) at the top of the screen. Press ok. This will save the document into the folder. Add in an extra 3 slides on the left hand side of the screen. Right click the mouse, click in add slide (1st option on the list) . Continue to do this until there are 4 -5 slides on the left hand box. Click on the first slide. In the text box, type in the name of the story.

YOU DO:

Learners will now independently work through locating and typing their story into the slides. Teacher and teacher aid will observe and help learners who are having difficulty. Learners have used this program before to make their own ME chart, so they are familiar with the vocabulary text box, icon etc Once the learners are finished inputting the sentences on the slides, they may print it off. One slide per page.

If time permits, learners may start illustrating their story using pencils and crayons. No texters.

Reflection: LMQ9 - Why has the learner (achieved/not) achieved the learning outcomes (standards)? (Feedback to the student & teacher about what is needed to inform future learning - what worked and what didnt. Were the knowledge & understanding & skills achieved? Learning diagnosis including individual learning issues that need to be addressed.) Can the learner: Use correct punctuation in writing? Identify sentence structures? Form correct upper and lower case letters? Depict the beginning, middle and end of a story? Retell an event and write about it?
