The purpose of an education is to gain knowledge. With knowledge comes the opportunity to improve ones life.

Knowledge can be gained through experience and or instruction. I believe that the quest for knowledge provides the ability for a person to be successful. There are two primary roles in education; the teacher and the student. Growth of knowledge begins with this student/teacher relationship. All three components; purpose of education, the role of the teacher and the role of the student intertwine, and are essential for a successful outcome. The main desire of a good teacher should be to instill into each of their students a love for learning as well as the knowledge of how important they are as a person. I believe a teachers primary role is to be a guide, not a sole source of information. With this approach teachers empower the students to explore their options; fostering independence and a will to discover and learn. As a teacher it is important to provide a loving, secure and stimulating environment for students so they can reach their highest potential. A loving and safe environment is essential for students to be open for knowledge. It is important to help students learn to love and respect themselves because only through self confidence wills a student strive to learn more. Lessons should be taught not only from a book but from hands on activities and manipulations. A creative lesson will motivate a student to seek new knowledge. It is beneficial for a student to be taught to embrace diversity, for each student is unique. They come from various backgrounds, are at different learning levels and have their very own something to contribute to the classroom. A good teacher will plan lessons that encompass all the different learning styles. Most important a teacher should teach by example, students should see their teachers continuing their own education and their love for learning.

A students role is to learn from all experiences. They should want to learn. To learn they must be responsible, on time and respectful. A responsible student is prepared for class. He or she should be ready to learn. A respectful student will not disrupt class but will become a part of the lesson. This will help not only himself get the most of the lesson but will also help his peers the same way. A student should be an active participant in their learning experience. They should contribute to class discussion as much as possible, not only answering questions form their teachers but from their peers as well. A student should not be afraid to make mistakes. The student should embrace their mistakes and learn from them. It is well known to adults that mistakes are the best teacher; this should also be taught to the student. As Tony Danza said in his You Tube documentary, I have three rules that my students should follow: be prepared, be kind and believe. This statement encompasses what a successful student will look like. Success in the classroom is dependent on both the student and the teacher. They must both understand the purpose of education and the importance of their roles as teacher and student.
