Book Report Options

Greetings learners! In fourth grade we love to read! We will read a lot in class and at home. Reading is very important and makes you smarter. I hope you love to read as much as I do. Every unit you get to self select a book to read independently during your free time. You then will be required to create a project or book report to share with the class. These reports will be graded with a rubric by both your peers and me. We will be looking for creativity, evidence of reading, depth, and presentation. Every unit you must choose a different genre of reading and a different type of report. There will be a class check list created using a Google Doc that will help keep track of what genres you read. You will be given access to the document so you can update your progress as the year goes along and also see what your classmates are reading. 1. Characters Come to Life! Creates life-size "portraits" of one of the characters from a book you just read. The portrait should include a written piece that tells about the character. The piece might also include information about events, traits, or conicts in the book that involve that character.

2. Coming to You Live! Be a TV or radio reporter, and give a report of a scene from the book as if it is happening "live" or present information as a special report on the news. The news can be given in front of the class or pre-recorded. 3. Show It! Using a poster or Power Point presentation via Google Docs, display information from the book. Be sure to include: title, author, a graphic of the rising climax graph, settings, characters, and other relevant elements to the story. Keep your slideshows between 6-10 slides. Its also important to keep your audience engaged so many throw in some questions on the last slide.

4. Time After Time! Make a time line of the events in the book with a minimum of 10 events with pictures. Present it on a poster board and have lots of cool illustrations. Make it nice and have fun with it.

5. Teach It! Teach a ve minute lesson about something you learned about in the book complete with an activity or worksheet for your students to complete! Be creative, youre the teacher!

6. Game Time! Create a game (board game, or Jeopardy, for example) that teaches facts from the book. Be sure to include lots of details that really show your understanding of the reading.

7. Music to My Ears! Write and perform an original song that gives information from the book. The song may be preformed live or pre-recorded.

8. Sculpt It! Create a sculpture of one of the subjects from a book you just read out of any material (i.e. wood, soap, clay, wire, etc.). The sculpture should include a written piece that tells about the subject.

9. Book Box! In a box collect items that relate to the book, and then write a sentence or two about each one to show its signicance (must have at least 6 items).

10. Scenic Model! Build a miniature stage setting of a scene in the book. Include a written explanation of the scene and why you chose it.

11. Write a Letter to the Author. After reading a book, share your reactions to the book in a letter written to its author. It needs to be a minimum of 1page long. Include it in an addressed envelope. If you write to an author who is still alive include a stamp because
