Purpose: The purpose of implementing Visible Thinking Routines (VTR) into the classrooms at Leonard Elementary School is to nurture

higher level thinking into the daily lives of learners while making their thinking visible. When thinking becomes visible, teachers and parents can better facilitate deeper thinking in our students. Supporting a culture of thinking develops college and career ready students.

How to Connect at Home: Connecting to your child at home is an integral part of your childs success. Showing interest by asking questions about what happened in your childs school day is a great start! You can assist further by:
asking open ended questions (questions that require more than a yes or no answer). trying a VTR at home. (Start simple and refer to the samples provided in our quarterly brochures.)

providing a platform for your child to be heard. (This is where you can dispel any misunderstandings or misconceptions in his/her learning.) modeling how to problem solve and work through a problem together!

SEE - THINK - WONDER

This can be used after watching a show, going to the park, grocery shopping, any family outing, and absolutely anything you may do with your little one.

This routine stresses the importance of observation as the basis for student thinking. Close observation provides the opportunity to think about what your child may see and then ultimately wonder.
