We will study cognitive, sociocultural, and biological psychology, as well as 1-2 optional areas (SL vs HL). Psychology is a unique field for many reasons but particularly because is walks a fine line between social sciences and natural sciences. It also brings in several other academic disciplines, such as sociology, anthropology, and maths. It is vital that you pay close attention to the learning outcomes along the way, as these make up the exam questions. The overarching learning outcomes for assessment are: Knowledge and comprehension of the specified content Application and analysis Synthesis and evaluation Selection and use of skills appropriate to psychology Course Content The course will be presented as follows, though we may have slight timing alterations along the way: YEAR ONE

Course Assessment You will mostly be examined on your ability to express through writing your understanding and ability to critically assess theories and studies, but you will also have the opportunity to develop a study and collect data based on past research by experts in the field. Your predicted grade for the course at each semester is made up of 70% for assessments, 15% for homework and other assignments (e.g. note-taking, completing assigned reading), and 15% for class participation. All written classwork will be turned in via turnitin.com. You should use MLA referencing for all citations and work should be turned in with the following header: Name IB Psych 1 Section Date The course is assessed by the IB as follows:

Paper 1 LOAs One short answer about each LOA and one essay answer about one of the LOAs your choice from three. Paper 2 Options One to two essay responses from a choice of questions. Paper 3 Qualitative Research Three questions about stimulus material to assess your understanding of research methodology. Internal Assessment (IA) Experimental Study Devise, plan, carry out, and report on a replicated experimental study.

IB Psychology Contract, 2013-14 1. All absences on exam days must be excused beforehand for there to be a makeup test. 2. You should email me beforehand about any absences. 3. You are responsible for getting and making up any missed work when you are absent. You will agree with me beforehand or immediately on the day you return (if you were ill) how much time you have to make up work. 4. All written work will be turned in via turnitin.com. 5. All citations should be properly referenced using MLA format (and there is an expectation that you will have additional sources to cite in most written assessment tasks). 6.
