Professional Communication Course Outline 1.

Partner Interview

- An opportunity to interview a classmate and then introduce them to the class. 2. Famous Speech Exposure

- An opportunity to explore famous historical speeches by sharing a one minute excerpt of the speech with the class. 3. Personal Commercial

- Introduce yourself through a presentation using Glogster or Prezi. Share by including your likes/dislikes, hobbies, personal background, future plans, etc And in addition, include written one page essay implementing all of the above. (The essay is for my eyes only!) 4. Mock Interview

- This activity is the perfect practice for knowing what to do and how to handle yourself in an interview situation. Each student will have a four minute interview, conducted by a panel (also made up of students in class). 5. Demonstrative/How-To Speech

- You will demonstrate to the class how to do something that interests you and is approved by me. Each demonstration in class must be over a different topic. Outlines will be due prior to the speech. For this speech, a visual aid will be required. You are allowed one note card, and are required to speak for 3-5 minutes. 6. Peer Presentation Critiques

- You will evaluate another persons speech based on specific criteria. You will present the written evaluation to the class. It is a great way to develop a critical eye to help yourself, and a tool to help everyone learn to accept constructive criticism. 7. Community Non-Profit Group Presentation

- Students will identify a problem in the community and develop a solution. As a group, you will work collaboratively to develop a mission statement, logo, name, advertising, business aspects, etc and will be followed by a fifteen minute group presentation with a power Point.

Congressional Persuasive Speaking

- Students will be assigned a legislative bill to present an affirmative/negative speech on using Roberts Rules of Order. You will research the topic and type an outline with sources. You are required to use a minimum of two sources per speech. The outline is due, in correct format, prior to the congressional session. You will be required to speak for 3 minutes and may refer to your outline. 9. Informative Speech

- This speech is designed to allow you to inform the class about an approved topic that interests you. You will research the topic, type an outline, and provide a works cited page. You are required to use a minimum of three sources. The outline and works cited pages are due, in correct format, prior to your speech. You will be required to speak for 4 6 minutes and you can use one note card. No visual aid can be used. 10. Class Debate

- As a class we will pick topics that are a bit controversial and you will have the chance to speak for or against it (respectfully).
