Students start their own business


Making money has a way of getting your attention. In computer class this year, students will be faced with many ways of making money and managing money. Students will get their first hand experience learning the secrets to starting their own successful business venture. Our overall goal this year is to learn how to apply technology skills to real world experience. Students will be begin their day with 8 to 10 minutes of touch typing skill building experience. Throughout the course, students will start their own fictitious company, They will create flyers, invitations, gift cards, coupons, prizes, business cards, letterheads, and perform other daily business functions using the Office 2007 Suite, and Photoshop CS3. Their learning will not stop there, we will be working through a checkbook simulation packet, while learning the ins and outs of managing a checking account. They will also complete an e-company website displaying their full entrepreneurship project. Including a commercial promoting their business/product.

During the first week of class students will learn computer science basics. Computer parts and their responsibilities, input/output devices, storage units and their sizes, and desktop publishing concepts.

Worthington Middle Schools Business department has the following guidelines for the proper and ethical use of this equipment: 1. Students will use technology with respect to the proper care of the equipment. Any student found to be intentionally damaging any hardware or software will be cited for school property abuse.

Using words, ideas, images, or data of another person as the students own is considered plagiarism. You will not be permitted to bring floppy disks, flash drives or any other external storage device from home to school. You are not allowed to download files from the Internet to the school computers.

Students will be held responsible for information viewed, received, and sent when using the Internet. You are not allowed to check e-mail or facebook in the business labs. Students are not permitted to change, delete or alter anyone elses files. You should not alter the desktop or any part of the system.
