IIT BOMBAY Information regarding MTech (RA) Admission, 2012 The department of Electrical Engineering admits a number of Research Associates (RAs) and Project Associates (PAs) every year. These students

Help the department in running its laboratories and in project work. They are also registered for the MTech degree. The MTech curriculum is identical to that followed by regular (TA) students. RA and PA category students to the MTech curriculum part time and do fewer courses per semester. Therefore they finish the curriculum in 3 years, as opposed to TAs who do it in 2 years. RAs have been doing as well academically as TAs and have had career opening at least as good as TAs. All areas of specialization, judging by past experience, have had excellent job placements. Some RAs have switched over to the PhD program even before completion of the MTech and have done excellent research. Selection of RAs and PAs involves evaluation of specific skills which will make them useful for running of laboratories and doing project work. In addition, they are tested for academics for doing the MTech degree.

The written test and interview for shortlisted candidates will be held on June 78th 2012. The candidates are requested to assemble in Hall No. 1 (First Floor) in New Lecture Hall Complex (L3 building) at 8.30 a.m. sharp. The interview for the shortlisted candidates may be held on 8th June, 2012. Therefore, candidates are required to make plans for their availability in IIT on 7th & 8th June, 2012. An email will be sent to all students who have opted for RA admissions and whose names appear in the eligible list, with instructions to upload relevant information about laboratory skills around 10th May, 2012. The website to upload this information will become active from 10th May, 2012. The last date for submitting the information is 17th May, 2012. The candidates will be shortlisted based on these skills and GATE score (Project Associates will also be shortlisted from the same set of students).
