Secret of Evermore Speedrun Guide (version 1.

0)

*No death run (Pixie Dust Underflow glitch is used though)*

( ) ( ) ( ) ( ) ( )
This guide is being worked on by TheAngryPanda with input from the SoE community.

Southern Forest
Notes: Run through along the marked path to the right The flowers deal 8-10 damage per hit, you can take 3 hits along the path I usually will run to the 2nd to last flower on the path (orange circle) and get hit against the northern wall because the damage here is quicker and the flowers don't move as opposed to the raptors in the next section. Grab the 2 clay from the small ramp near the exit Exit north to Raptor Attack

If you have questions/suggestions for this guide, please find me on Metasigma's twitch channel stream, I'm there 90% of the time he's streaming. A small note on character switching, once you get sprint I assume that you're capable of pressing select and sprinting with the dog at fairly obvious stretches of map length. Less obvious points will be pointed out. The guide has been revamped to only include the Atlasonly route. I've decided to do this because I want this guide to have a balance between risky and safe strats that give you the most speed throughout the game. Getting defend costs you more than 32 seconds when it's all said and done. You can get hit around 16 times on atlas-only before that route will catch up to you and even then they'd of had to be playing basically perfect compared to you. Knowing this, it's better to have a guide that restricts the amount of times you can be hit (due to not having underflowed defense stat) which will improve your performance in the game over all your runs. The downside to this is that Act 1 is VERY RNG based, so unfortunately you just have to go with it and hope for the best sometimes.

**Starting now, all ingredients must be gathered in the order they're presented**

Raptor Attack
Notes: Die to raptor, 9-14 damage per hit

Fire Eyes' Village

Notes: Loot the left container after waking up in hut H (nectar) Pick up 1 ash from the fire pit Leave the hut and enter Hut G Loot the container on the right for 30 talons Leave the hut and head towards Hut D Grab the container on the right and exit the hut (3 clay) Directly south you can find 1 oil along the southern wall Dog Skip: Fairly simple, switch to boy, dog moves past trigger, switch to dog, exit area Dog Skip past the guard's trigger point (blue lines on the map) Sometimes the NPC's get in your way here, it is unknown if you can manipulate them. The reason we pick up the Oil along the southern wall is so that the dog will not search for it when he sniffs around, without doing this pickup, we could not perform the dog skip.

Eastern Forest
Notes: Collect the 1 clay near the flower at the eastern exit and proceed to Quicksand Area

Quicksand Area
Notes: Run into the first quicksand pool (marked with green circle on map) Go into the cave and loot the container on the right for 1 clay Talk to the merchant and purchase 1 petal to obtain Jaguar Ring (sprinting) Sell the nectar and 2 petals you have now for 120 talons Sprinting: 1st method : Spamming the button while maintaining directional control (slowest) 2nd method : Rhythmic button presses, slightly more complicated (medium speed) 3rd method : Button spam with diagonal directional spam to the direction you want to go, the trade off is that you have much less room for error when enemies are present (fastest) Continue sprinting through the quicksand area looting the 4 crystals from container Exit south to Bugmuck You should be sprinting almost all the time for the rest of the run unless it's specified otherwise. This map will be revisited after defeating Thraxx and the containers/exit to the northeast will be discussed and obtained at that point, if you need a visual reference for these refer back to this map or just keep a mental note that you'll be seeing them again very soon.

Bugmuck
Notes: Pick up the 1 clay near the cave Enter the cave and equip hardball when the option appears Puchase 10 crystal from Hardball guy (120 talons) Leave the cave and go south then east Grab the 1 clay from the grass Continue north, then east, then south, finally east again Proceed into the big bug There is a lot of variance in people's routes here, the one pointed out in this guide is considered the "easiest" of them. Players should cut/add clay to fit their style of play/comfort with each run after learning this route. If you need help doing so, find me on a stream or PM me on SDA forums/twitch.

Inside Big Bug 1 - 3

Notes: Follow the path laid out on the map Collect all the clay pieces along the path that you're most comfortable collecting, you should have at least 14 clay before thraxx !!!Core Mechanic Tutorial Time!!! [Spell Stacking] Press select to play as the dog Press X to open the boy's menu Choose a spell to cast Immediately after choosing your target, press X to open the menu again You can chain up to 8 offensive spells and sometimes tack defensive spells onto the end of chains as well. This guide will point out how many casts to perform and on what for each boss Thraxx Strategy: 1) 8x Thraxx Heart 2) Run as dog to the green circle area on the map 3) 6x Thraxx Heart Hard Ball lvl 1, Thraxx dies Save the man from the cocoon with the axe, he gives you 10 wax and 10 oil in return. Exit the area Learning to spell stack for Thraxx is extremely important. It is what makes this game possible to speedrun within a decent timeframe and enables multiple bosses to actually be beaten with our limited defensive capabilities throughout the majority of the game. If you don't learn how to do this properly and in a fairly quick manner, you will not progress very easily throughout the rest of the run. Consider Thraxx your tutorial for spell stacking, RNG mechanics and overally tolerance for what kind of "interesting things" this game can throw your way during a run. Thraxx Heart: 600 hp, 750 talons Right/Left Arm: 250 hp, 150 talons In a perfect world, the dog won't die right off the bat when thraxx roars or when maggots come after you during the downtime. If you're worried about this, just use a petal to counter the damage.

Bugmuck (Northern Cliffs)

Notes: Head west then north into Quicksand Area (Cliffs) (If you need a visual reference, use the maps from previous sections)

Quicksand Area (Cliffs)

Notes: Continue north, loot the container for 4 wax Take all the items from the first 3 containers near the east exit (2 clay, biscuit) Take the eastern exit and don't equip Acid Rain Purchase 40 crystals, 40 clay from Acid Rain guy (720 talons) Exit to the west into Eastern Forest, then southwest to Fire Eyes' Village (If you need a visual reference, use the maps from previous sections)

Fire Eyes' Village (Revisit #1)

Notes: Head towards Fire Eyes' Hut Talk to Fire Eyes, she gives you 6 call beads Take the northwestern exit to Norther Forest (If you need a visual reference, use the maps from previous sections) Cutting Defend

Northern Forest
Notes: Pick up 1 clay from the small grass patch to the left of the rock blocking the cave !!!Core Mechanic Tutorial Time!!! [Rock Skip] Press select to play as the dog Move the dog to the side of the rock you want to skip through, make him sniff Release sniff, switch to boy, hold sniff again Move boy slowly in the direction you want the dog to run while rapidly tapping the sniff button When the dog moves as your tapping sniff towards you, switch back to the dog Simply walk through whatever rock you wanted to get through Rock Skip into the Volcano

Volcano Core
Notes: You need to use 8 hardballs somewhere before the end of Volcano Sewers Hug the west wall to find a hidden container with 1 call bead Continue north to the main area Rock Skip from the right and head north Rock Skip again from the left or right (both work) run to the north, then west Pick up the 1 clay from the right of the rock Rock Skip past the remaining rock (from left) head north to Volcano Sewers The Vipers here are notorious for being annoying with their tongues and absurd movement throughout the map, it's typical to take at least 2 hits here. Any more than 6 hits is basically run ending for a serious attempt at WR, zero hits usually puts you 7 seconds ahead of the average speed to get through here.

Volcano Sewers
Notes: Look at the map and the path you have to take before proceeding Head into the northwest pipe Ride the waterslide along the marked path (blue line) to the end Hit the switch inside this new room, switch to dog, exit north Now take the northeast pipe exit from the entrance room Ride the waterslide along the marked path (yellow line) to the end Exit north to Volcano Boss room

Volcano Boss (Magmar)

Notes: After some quick nonsense with the cutscene, Magmar pops up Magmar Strategy: 1) 8x Hardball Hardball lvl 2 2) 8x Hardball 3) 8x Hardball 3) 8x Hardball, 7x Fire Eye's Storm, melee attack Magmar dies NOTE: This strategy does NOT always work welcome to RNG Enjoy the cutscences, off to Act 2! As soon as the shaking of the area stops is the moment he becomes targetable, there's 6 positions for this: top left and top right you have to wait a second before targetting him, mid left and mid right you can hit him immediately as the screen stops shaking and low left/right are the best patterns to get. Magmar: 1000 hp, 500 xp, 900 talons If you don't get Hardball lvl 2 after your first 8x cast, reset, you did something wrong and you're probably going to die. Atlas-only strat is easier with 2 melee attacks. Add the 2nd somewhere at the 1st or 2nd 8x.

Crustacia
Notes: Exit East to Eastern Beach *No map because you basically just run along the southern beach no matter what, the city itself is entirely pointless in a run*

Eastern Beach
Notes: After You enter the cave and come out up top, pick up 1 vinegar just south of it Next grab the 3 Limestone to the east, then 3 more Limstone just north of that Enter Blimp's Cave You'll gain control of the dog after a short cutscene Cross the lilypads and run east then into the palace After the cutscene you re-gain control of the boy again Blimp will give you Crush, Crush is absolutely awesome Equip Crush, Unequip Hardball Kill the Mad Monk with Crush casts Head north into the desert

Desert of Doom/Nobilia Market

While the 15 minutes that's forced upon you is somewhat of a major disappointment to many people that would like to run this game. Please note that the amount of things done during this 15 minutes would have to be done anyways to progress further into the game in a proper manner. The grinding we do is essentially free levels, free time for leveling crush, free time for getting the annihilation amulet (the next quickest one takes 7 seconds on average) as well as the underflow glitches being very easy to perform here with minimal time loss. To put it in perspective, a bad luck Pixie Dust could cost you up to 2 minutes depending on your luck with spiders. Desert Zip (both normal and backwards) is performed by hitting a screen transition while running at a specific angle, it can be done with various angles but the ones that are the "easiest" are whatever you're comfortable. The path to the zip itself is customizable, this is just how I go about getting there.

Notes: Follow the path as best you can, if you don't get the zip then try again Exit to the east to the Market Square Go south until you see a building you can enter Purchase 1 Pixie Dust, 5 Wings from the mechant here (-375 Jewels) Head towards the entrance you came from but run behind the boxes just above it Obtain/Equip Atlas, purchase 1 Atlas Amulet (-100 Jewels) Exit Nobilia and back into the Desert of Doom Backwards Desert Zip back to the oasis Go north and to the west to find some spiders, lure them back to the oasis Get hit by the spiders until you get poisoned, refilling hp at oasis if needed Cast Atlas, then use a Pixie Dust, run south to the area with Blimp's Cave Get killed by the barbarians here to trigger underflow glitch Kill lots of things in the desert until you have at least 1740 jewels Buy 50 Limestone and 45 wax from Blimp (1740 jewels) Crush things until you get Crush level 3 Desert Zip back to Nobilia and wait for the market to fall silent before going into the Market Square Nobilia Market Strategy: 1) Purchase 30 Rice (-90 Jewels) 2) Buy 1 Amulet of Annihilation (30 Rice) This hidden room requires youthrough the wall a bit The only items you HAVE to pick up here are the 2 Call beads, the other stuff you can pick up if you want to. Vigor doesn't deserve a real strategy, hit him once, let him run to the side while you run behind him, hit him again welcome to Atlas glitch After some scenes return to Desert of Doom and Reverse Desert Skip back to Eastern Beach

!!!Core Mechanic Tutorial Time!!! [Pixie Dust Atlas/Defend] Get poisoned Use Pixie Dust Cast Atlas/Defend "Die" Revive and check stats, you should have 65XXX as your attack, this is called underflowing a value If you don't get this the first time, reset. This run only uses Atlas and Defend.

*Don't refill hp after getting poisoned unless you absolutely have to*

Eastern Beach (Revisit #1)

Notes: Enter Blimp's Cave Purchase ~50 crush, you can adjust this number if you like. (Adjustable) Leave Blimp's Cave, head south and west until you reach the River

River
Notes: Run west and jump the gap across the bridge with the dog Run north and get on the platform, it will carry you back across the river Run around until the boy catches up to you Switch to boy and get back on the platform to cross the river again Run south, then exit west to Western Beach

Western Beach
Notes: Run west, pick up the 1 root and 2 wax along the way When you get to the center of the map, go south When you reach the beach go west again to Outside Pyramid Quick Notes: General Route: blue, ruins, green, pyramids, red, diamond eyes cutscene skip, return to nobilia If you fall into a pit on accident you will come OUT of the area you go to from the northwest exit.

**!!!!!**YOU WILL BE VISITING THIS MAP A LOT**!!!!!** Blue = 1st path Green = 2nd Path Red = 3rd path Orange = Hidden Path Outline (References) Light Blue = Diamond Eyes Cutscene Triggers (after red path)

Side Notes:

The 1 root and 2 wax are picked up because if you do not pick them up you cannot perform a dog skip to bypass Diamond Eyes being taken by the evil version of Horace. The light blue objects floating above the abyss are invisible platforms, you do not need to use Revealer to walk on them.

**References** Blue = middle of opening Green = run along the background where it switches from dark/light Red = middle-ish of further rock

Ruins of Collosia
Route Order: Blue > Green > Red > Purple > Yellow **Reference for the Hidden Path**

Notes: Run to the west around the mad monks when you enter the area and into the Ruins Once inside, follow the blue path and sniff the dog at the 1st door Run the boy up to the hidden path and cross it to step on the switch Switch to dog and enter the door Sniff the dog after you enter and run the boy along the green path You'll hit a switch to extend a bridge At the end of this bridge you need to walk along what seems like the edge of the area, this will bypass the dog coming up there Now just follow the path and press the switch then change to dog and exit the area Run to the southeastern door to fight Minitaur, press his switch then exit his area Run west into the next area Dop skip past the switch on the floor and run into the next area to the north Run north then east across the bridge, then south, press the button there and use wings to get out of the Ruins Once you have control of the boy, enter the ruins again Head to the remaining door to the northeast and enter the area Follow the purple path until you reach the other side of the extended bridge Sniff the dog here and run to the west then north with the boy to hit a switch Change back to dog and run along the path to the boss, make sure the boy catches up to you before entering After defeating the boss, use wings to escape the ruins Once you have control of the boy, enter the ruins again Now head north along the yellow path, the boy will chunk the spear across the gap to hit a switch that extends a bridge Cross the bridge and head into the boss room Megataur is a pushover, so take care of him and head to Pyramids

Blue Blue Blue Green Green Green Green Green Red Red Purple Purple Purple Purple Purple Purple Purple Yellow Yellow Yellow

Pyramids Outer
Notes: Cross the hidden path area (References) Continue west until you reach a staircase Step on the switch just to the east and run the dog into the pyramids Jump the gap as the dog and run to the northwest button, switch to boy Run up and around the pyramids until you can go inside If you get bored one day you should experiment with wings and character switching in/around this place. Some weird stuff can happen that is pretty ridiculous.

**References** Blue = outcropping in cliff Green = right side of rock Red = outcropping in cliff *Red = Top of tree if easier for you

Pyramids Upper
Notes: Follow the path throughout the pyramid When you arrive outside go down the stairs Now follow the red path to Pyramids Lower General Route: blue > outside 1 > red > lower blue > green > outside 2 > rimsala This place is annoying and I suggest you practice it a few times before implementing it into a run, otherwise you're likely to go the wrong way at least once and that will cost you some time.

*green path is for later when you have dog*

Also, the route through here looks about as fun as this map was to edit...

Pyramids Lower
Notes: Follow the blue pathand pick up the essence along the way until the gate Step on the northwest switch as dog Follow the blue path and pick up the wings and call bead from the containers on the way Continue along the path until the next gate Step on the southwest switch as dog Continue along the path until miniboss Take them out and now you can break walls Follow the path, breaking walls, until you reunite with your dog Finally, proceed to the upper floor Now head into Rimsala's room by stepping on the two switches with the dog and boy Rimsala fight = swing until dead Do NOT leave the room until you get the Diamond Eye text at the bottom Use your Essence and head to Nobilia Square

Nobilia Market Square (Aegis)

Notes: Cutscene happens, boss appears, melee him to death After some scenes, make your way to Western Beach Run off the invisible path that leads to the ruins here When you regain control, head northeast and under the wooden planks Continue north and jump into the hole *No map because honestly this isn't worth cropping the boss image out* Aegis: HP: 3800 XP: 3000 Jewels: 1200

Oglin Tunnel
Notes: When you gain control of the boy, run around and exit south Now head southwest into the teleporter Head east and then south of the teleporter in this area Just walk around the area and exit north Continue north into the teleporter Head west and then north of the teleporter in this area Head northeast and exit east Head south Run into the teleporter on this screen Pick up the call beads carefully (don't step back into the teleporter) Exit west Exit north Aquagoth Strategy: 1) 7x Crush 3x Flare 2) If it doesn't die, 2-4x Crush should kill it Switch to boy before the bucket is lowered Hop in the bucket to go to the next area All I have to say about this map is that it was a royal pain to create since the original had lots of clutter and it was hard to see with the guide's layout. I did the best I could with the route layout, hopefully it isn't too hard to follow.

Fun fact, the beginning of Oglin Tunnel is actually the beginning of Act 3, so this is the only act where you have 2 different dogs in it. You have the Act 2 dog throughout this dungeon and the poodle throughout Act 3. It also means that Aegis is technically the last boss of Act 2 instead of Aquagoth.

Aquagoth data: Hp: 2500 XP: 5000 *Cannot be physically hit*

Ivor Tower Southern Area

Notes: The portion of the map you start in is not included on this map When you have control of the boy again, run northwest to exit the area Run to the entrance, switch to dog, sniff the dog at the entrance Run west into the pink trees to find a hidden path Head south then east to find a chest with Aura in it Switch to dog and enter Ivor Tower If you're short an annihilation amulet for whatever reason, there is one on this map. You can also pick up an Atlas Amulet and Ash for it if you need that as well. A situation that may require this is if you only have enough clay for 1 cast of Defend for perm-aura, you could get the Atlas Amulet and Ash to use on the boy while using the 1 cast of Defend on the dog. This kind of knowledge and play style is what will win you races when things go awkwardly in the earlier parts of the game.

Ivor Tower Town Area

Notes: Give your Annihilation Amulet to the person on the map to get a tick to the show Now exit west and head straight north in the next area (not shown on map) Exit north and follow the path around the area then talk to the announcer Watch some scenes for a bit, then get ready to sprint down as soon as possible If successful, you've just performed the Banquet Skip and saved ~6 minutes After regaining control, head back into the banquet room then exit east Continue running east until you reach The Maze I removed certain portions of this area because they're basically pointless unless you're doing a 100% run, which will have it's own guide I'd like to think. If you fail Banquet Skip in a run, just reset because it's impossible to make up the 6 minute time loss. In a race you'll have to either suck it up and finish anyways or drop out if people gain more than 70 seconds on you (average turret variation for act 4).

The Maze (Chessboard)

Notes: When you enter the maze use Wings Run through the area following the path on the map Once you get to Footknight, melee him to death Cast Aura and go down the stairs that open up and proceed to the exit Footknight stats: HP: 2400 XP: 850 Gold: 200 *This guy can be super random in his movement*

The Dark Forest

Notes: I'm going to just let the maps do the work here 1st Boss = Dopplegangers, just Aura up and attack them 2nd Boss = Timberdrake, just attack it a lot Enter the Ebon Keep Sewers Dopplegangers: HP: 700 each, last one may have more? XP: 400 each Gold: 333 each

*printing these out = good idea* http://i.imgur.com/mYjTjqi.png ^Dark Forest Combined Route

Timberdrake: HP: 2000 XP: 2200 Gold: 2000 Text Version: START - down - left - up - left - down - down - right right - down - left - down - left - down - down - down right - down - left - down - right - right - down - down right - up - right - right - down - right - right - BOSS 1 right - up - right - up - right - right - down - down down - right - right - up - right - up - left - up - up BOSS 2 - END

Ebon Keep Sewers

Notes: All you can do at the moment is follow the blue path The blue circles near the end indicate a wall clip area Exit to Ebon Keep Dungeon when you're done here

Ebon Keep Dungeon/Interior (not shown)

Notes: Follow the blue route killing the creatures that come out of the cages as you go After killing the guardbot you can open the final gate which leads to Ebon Keep Interior Arriving in the Interior, head up the stairs near you, then west and up some more stairs Now run all the way east and up the stairs again Go west of the stairs, then north into Ebon Keep Interiors Proceed into the Interiors and you'll meet up with Tinker and the Queen Verminator Strategy: 1) Cast 7x Crush, 3x Flare 2) If this doesn't kill him, do 3x Crush. After some scenes, head through the eastern exit into a room with some stained glass windows The enemies in the windows will come to life, kill them, it's really simple Continue east into Tinker's workshop, some scenes will play Afterwards, grab the Knight Basher axe weapon from the chest near the entrance Head all the way back to the sewers through the dungeon Follow the green path (on the sewers map above) to get back to the rocks we couldn't break earlier after Dark Forest Break the rocks and head north through the area until you reach Gomi Tower Verminator: HP: 3425 XP: 1050 Gold: 1000

Gomi Tower/Ivor Tower Finish Up

Notes: Follow the path until you get to the blue circle The trapdoor here will drop you to the lower portion of the 3rd tower Once there, circle around to the 2nd tower Make your way to the elevator here After exiting the elevator go up the stairs to meet up with Sterling Sterling Strategy: 1) Cast Hypnotize on him *stay out of his melee range or you'll get thrown off the tower* 2) Melee him from the side and knock him west until he dies After you beat Sterling, Gomi will talk to you for a bit Sterling now takes you to the Ivor Tower Sewers This tower is troll central without Perm-Aura/Aura, but very doable.

Sterling: HP: 3200 XP: 3300 Gold: 2000 *Getting thrown off the platform you fight Sterling on costs [his travel time] + ~10s + [fireball travel + animation time], so yeah Don't get thrown off.

Ivor Tower Sewers

Notes: When Sterling drops you off head into the sewers Run north and through the passage Now run west then north to a door leading into the Ivor Tower Interiors Some scenes will play out Once that's done head west into the theatre room Kill the puppets first Mungola appears in the back after the puppets die No boss strategy here, just hit him until he's dead Make your way back to Tinker's workshop to get the flying machine **After cutscene, northeast exit, east exit, keep going east through the maze, then east to tinker's workshop** Mungola: HP: 5000 XP: 8000 *Puppets spawn infinitely

Volcano Path
Notes: Fly back and slightly turn to the left while landing to reach the Swamp landing area, then just head into Volcano Path to the southwest Use Aura and make your way to the top of the mountain Pick up the Gauge then return to the flying machine (use Aura on the way back) Hand over the Diamond Eyes and the Gauge you collected Fly back to the Volcano Path again and collect another Gauge This time when you take off, press Start to bring up the minimap Fly towards the top right corner while trying to land This skips the landing animation for the flying machine and save syou ~10 seconds Talking to Tinker will now get you launched into Omnitopia

Junkyard/Boiler Room
Notes: After some talking go west and take note of the broken teleporter Now head north and then east to reach an elevator to reach the Boiler Room Run south, then east, then north, then east again to reach the Main District If you step into the elevator before boy is on the screen, it will auto-walk him through everything to the location. This is only useful if he gets stuck somewhere.

Main District
Notes: Not really much to say here honestly, look at the map Get the boy and dog into the positions (Blue = boy, Green = dog) Mash select and the "accept" button, you just skipped most of Act 4 Credits to Saturn and Asfarasiget for this trick. Saturn discovered the method, Afaig improved it.

Carltron
Notes: As soon as you can use Wings and run the dog to the top right of the area This will let the boy rubberband up to the fans without them coming on Melee and turn on all the fans/switches When you kill the last fan, switch to whatever sword you have as a weapon Knock all the enemies towards the bottom of the map during the raptor fights When you get to rimsalas, just do your best to kill them as fast as possible Bad Boy will spawn next, when you see the lightning, run to the bottom of the map in a corner such that it will force him to spawn in the corner, kill him quickly Do the same with robot dog but position the boy above him and the dog to the left/right (depends on which bottom corner) When the robot comes out to clean the dust up, kill it Metal Magmar will spawn, just spam attack him to death, he's not as trollish as his volcano counterpart Killing magmar will trigger Carl to show up Run straight up to him and just melee like crazy Congradulations! You've just beaten the crap out of your childhood and hopefully enjoyed the speedrun through this game Metal Raptors: HP: 4000 Eye of Rimsala: HP: 6000 Bad Boy: HP: 700 (?) Dark Toaster: HP: 10000 *Has a 40% evade rate* Metal Magmar: HP: 25000 Carlton's Robot: HP: 30000
