This stage lasts from nine months to three months old and during this period in a babys life they start learning vowel sounds like ooooooo and aaaaaaaa. By five months old babies are able to say ba-ba and ma-ma. The second stage of the language acquisition is known as the one-word or holophase stage. This stage is from nine months to 18 months long. From ten months to 13 months the children will start to learn how to form real words. Even though at this age they can only say a few words they are able to understand considerably more. The third stage of the language acquisition is known as the two-word stage and it lasts from 18 months to 24 months. This is when children start to use two word sentences like where mommy and small doggy. Their sentences usually only consist of nouns and verbs like big pig. The fourth stage of language acquisition is known as the telegraphic or multi-word stage. This stage is 24 months to 30 months, around the age of two. At about this age children begin to say multi-word sentences that have subject and predicates. For example, mommy is nice and want more cookies.
