Kasambahay Law

(Critique Paper)
Kasambay Law takes effect! Who are the kasambahays by the way? Lets define the term, itself first. The kasambahays are the general household helpers who regularly perform domestic work whether on a live-in or live-out arrangement. The law, which took effect on June 4, aims to provide adequate welfare and social protection to Filipino household service workers (HSWs). To help you more about it. Have you heard or do you even watch the popular TV series Be Careful with My Heart? Youre likely familiar with one of the main charact ers named Maya then. Maya is set to be a good example for HSWs because her character allowed nothing and no one to stop her from chasing and fulfilling her dreams. Maya is a good example because despite the fact the she was just a nanny, she was able to study and her employer treats her well. According to the law, the kasambahay shall be allowed to finish his or her basic education The law, I think, is not that practicable. With all the benefits- SSS, Philhealth and Pag-IBIG (Article IV, Sec. 30), its too much, its too heavy, financially, for an employer to bear. The employers schedule would, perchance, find it hard to supervise or care about all the benefits monthly. Employers hire maids because they cant do the household chores alone due to business concern. Why on earth would they waste their time looking after all the maids benefits? I recently sat down with our maids to discuss the law with them. Both of them dont like going on day off because, according to them, its magastos or costly. So, the day off provision is kind of useless, I guess. But according to the law, the yayas must have 24-hour day off every single week (Article IV, Sec 21). These are just some of my problems about the law!
