ASSESSMENT

1 Student will participate in discussion board starting one original post and responding to no less than 4 other peers as well as all threads from original post as needed.

ACTIVITY 1 Choose one text from the list of ;iction resources and one from the non-;iction. Complete the online survey on fact or ;iction. Participate in online discussion about difference between written and oral history.

LEARNING OBJECTIVE 1 Student will determine the validity of quilts as communication on UGRR using both ;iction and non-;iction resources.

LEARNING OBJECTIVE 3 Student will discover persons involved on the UGRR by traveling to speci;ic safe house locations on the interactive map.

ACTIVITY 3 Using the texts from the reading at map stops. Choose one slave and tell their story in your own way, as a written, visual, artistic or musical presentation. Must use at least 2 different medium to tell the story.

ASSESSMENT 3 Using Word Press, student will publish a written bio of one safe house person they discovered on their journey north. They will write in ;irst person, as if they met the person.

COMMUNICATION ON THE UNDERGROUND RAILROAD

ASSESSMENT 2 Using Screencast o-matic, student will post link showing route with audio explanation to discussion board. Discussion will revolve around the wisdom or folly of chosen route.

ACTIVITY 2 Using interactive map from NPS (see resource list) plan escape from slave state to Canada Pass through at least 3 slave states and 3 Free states to reach Canada. Follow the safe houses on the map. Explain why you choose your route.

LEARNING OBJECTIVE 2 Student will navigate from a southern slave state to a northern free state, following explicit directions and map points using an interactive map.

Learning objective 4 Student will experiment with different textiles to discover what works best in the art of making a quilt block , and connect to how slaves used scraps at hand to make quilts.

ACTIVITY 4 First, use the link to Pathways to Freedom (found in your rubric) to experiment with quilt block design and color. Then use the video link to youtube (also in rubric) for speci;ic directions to create a block.

ASSESSMENT 4 Students will work in groups of 8 to create a Freedom Trail, using their completed quilt blocks. Using A collaborative tool of their choice, share blocks, make uni;ied quilt trail.
