Teacher candidates demonstrate knowledge and understanding and use the central concepts as outlined in Montanas student content and performance standards, tools of inquiry, and structures of content for students in meaningful learning experiences that develop students competence in subject matter and skill for various developmental levels. biii. Teacher candidates demonstrate knowledge and understanding of and use the major concepts, procedures, and reasoning processes of mathematics that define number systems and number sense, geometry, measurement, statistics and probability, and algebra, in order to foster student understanding and use of patterns, quantities, and spatial relationships that can represent phenomena, solve problems, and deal with data. civ. Teacher candidates apply knowledge and understanding of effective verbal, nonverbal, and electronic communication techniques to develop inquiry, collaboration, and supportive interaction. d. Teacher candidates demonstrate knowledge and understanding of and use formal and informal assessment strategies to evaluate and ensure the continuous intellectual, social-emotional, and physical development of each student.

IN THE SPACE BELOW, DESCRIBE THE ARTIFACT AND HOW IT RELATES TO THE CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK OF THE EDUCATION PROGRAM: The artifact representing EDU481/401 is a lesson plan which incorporates math methods to teach various mathematical concepts in the elementary school classroom. The artifact represents the Education Programs conceptual framework through its display of content knowledge. The teacher must have a strong knowledge of multiplication and how to instruct using five modes of representation in order to present this lesson to the students. Also, because of the various steps in the writing process of lesson plans presented in the artifact, it is clear teacher need the correct pedagogy within writing lessons to establish learners in the classroom. Finally, diversity is found within the selected assignments for learners with multiple abilities. IN THE SPACE BELOW, DESCRIBE AND EXPLAIN IN WHAT WAY(S) THIS ARTIFACT RELATES TO THE COURSE OBJECTIVE(S) YOU ALIGNED IT WITH AND HOW IT CONTRIBUTED TO YOUR GROWING COMPETENCE IN THE EDUCATION PROGRAM:

In the lesson plan presented, it is clear the content knowledge of the wide variety of math methods learned throughout the course. In the lesson, the students will learn the concept of multiplication by audio, visual, and kinesthetic means. In the lesson, the students participate in guided reading which enhances comprehension and fluency. The students will make predictions based on the text aligned with the lesson about cause and effect. Furthermore, students will be able to understand the process of multiplication based on prior knowledge of addition. They will be able apply their knowledge to real-world issues, as they advance in mathematics. The artifact also displays the ability I have as a teacher by my use of strategies, technology, creativity, and originality. The text connections and integration of literature into the math lesson clearly demonstrates one of the primary objectives of this course.
