Unit 1 Test, specific focus on grammar and listening. Objectives (SWBAT): Students Will Be Able To 1. Listen for gist and details. 2. Use new food vocabulary appropriately. 3. Read a paragraph for gist and details. 4. Use present verb tense properly. Theme: Food for Thought Extensions: fast food, eating in NYC Stage/Aim/Skill/ Microskill Activity/Procedure Interaction Time

Entry Ticket - Ask Ss to write down 1 thing they Review or Preview learned/ remembered from class the previous day, 1 SS thing they want to review before test. Collect responses. (Ts will review responses during the 5 min break to determine what has been covered/ what should be covered in last half of class)

Activity 1: Review Vocab homework from night before: In Textbook: Vocab Check on p. 5 and 13 Homework In Workbook: Practice 2 on p. 1 Vocabulary Promote peer-teaching by reviewing homework in pairs. Use playing cards to determine pairs. Ts will prepare a hand of cards. Ss who pick the same number will be paired (i.e. 5 of hearts and 5 of diamonds will be a pair). Ss will discuss answers and negotiate for meaning. Ts will walk around to listen to Ss interaction and answer any questions.

Come together as a class only to go over any issues SS-T encountered in pairs. Clarify any confusion or questions. Activity 2: Review HW: Practice 5 p. 4 of workbook 3 student volunteers come to the board. Each takes Homework a column on the chart and write all verbs that fall in SS Grammar that category. Each student will use a different color marker. Review answers as a class and discuss discrepancies. (Both category may be confusing and require further explanation/ instruction) SS-T

HW: Practice 6 p. 4 of workbook Divide class into pairs based on proficiency level. S-S (stronger students with weaker students). Each pair will share their answers for one question (assigned by T). Discuss answers as class. Activity 3: Listening & Vocabulary SS-T

First: Explain that we are doing a listening activity. Show students questions they will need to answer from listening (like will be on the unit test). Play SS audio clip 2 times. Questions: 1. What is the best title for this talk? 2. What does he like on his cheeseburger? 3. Why does he have to order at least 3 S-S hamburgers? 4. How does he usually pay? Ss answer questions. Discuss answers in pairs. Second: Cloze test. Transcript with missing words will be on PowerPoint. T will play audio clip again. Only 1 time. Ss need to fill in words in the blanks. Explain that they just need to get as many blanks filled as they can. SS Pair discussion to compare.

Third: Vocabulary. Ss guess meanings of missing words from cloze using context of transcript. **5 min break** (Ts review entry tickets) Activity 4 Grammar T will go over perfect and perfect progressive verb forms. Explicitly discuss timing and examples. Ts will address student questions and correct Ss examples for perfect aspect. Practice using perfect and perfect progressive in small groups (3-3-4)

Activity 5: Review Class will be split into 4 groups (2-2-3-3). Each will be assigned a paragraph from the reading Homework homework (p. 12-13 in book) in order to answer the Reading corresponding question in part 4 (p. 13). Discuss S-S answer in groups. Write answer in complete sentences. Go over answers together as a class, each pair or small group sharing their sentence(s) and identifying the verb types they used.

Activity 6: Review Ts will share the responses from the entry ticket (anonymously). Review any points not yet covered of Entry Ticket in the lesson. Materials: Prezi In Charge 1 Book In Charge 1 Workbook Whiteboard & Markers Scrap Paper (for entry ticket) Internet (for audio clip) Anticipated Problems & Suggested Solutions: Students have not completed the homework - if only a couple they will be paired during review to answer together, if most of class we will complete the exercises as a class or divide the class up and split up the exercises as necessary Technology issues - everything on Prezi is on the lesson plan. Listening section will have to be skipped but we can still do the cloze and vocab review from the transcript. Contingency Plans (what you will do if you finish early, etc.): Begin optional homework in class as Unit 1 test review. Post-Lesson Reflections: Work on transitions between activities
