ENG104 Advanced Grammar and Composition Writing

Higher education requires an understanding of the structure and styles imbued in the English language. This is because most textbooks and references encountered by intellectual consumers, students or not, studying their respective fields are in English. For non-native speakers of the language, gaining a meaningful understanding of texts becomes a challenge. This course offers the fundamentals of grammar compounded to make a complex but understandable comprehension of the English language; and its application to different forms of compositions. It highlights the structure of the written language as a stylistic means to further the expression of the writer or his objective, whether intentional or not, in writing the text. Furthermore, it exposes students to varied literary types to gain an appreciation for literature, as well as to inspire or intensify their need to express themselves in written form.
