 11 people including nine foreign tourists and one local guide were shot dead by the gunmen. The deceased included 3 Chinese, 2 Ukrainians, 2 Slovakians, 1 Lithuanian, 1 Nepalese, 1 US and 1 Pakistani; one Chinese climber managed to escape. The gunmen separated and tied up the local Pakistani staff and told them not to attempt to raise the alarm until morning. The attackers are believed to have left in the early hours of the day and had about six hours to make their escape.
