It is the part of the Earths crust that rises above

the oceans. These land masses constitute most of the dry land on the surface of the Earth.
It is a LARGE UNBROKEN LANDMASS

completely surrounded by water, although in some cases continents are connected by land bridges.

Many have considered to have 7 continents most students in US are taught of this. In Europe and other parts of the world there is only one continent for AMERICA, considering that there are only 6 continents. In France, ANTARCTICA is not considered as a continent, thus there are only 5. Many scientists now refer to 6 continents only, with EURASIA being the 6th.

With an area of about 17,159,995 sq. miles, about 33%

of the worlds total land surface. Most Populous Continent more than 60% of the worlds total population.

It is the extended perimeter of each continent and

associated coastal plain. Much of the shelf was exposed during glacial periods, but it is now submerged under relatively shallow seas and gulfs and was similarly submerged during other interglacial periods.
They are referred to as the SUBMERGED EDGES OF

THE CONTINENTS.

These are the different levels of the sea floor that

surrounds an ISLAND.
It is the existing seabed that occur just beyond the

perimeter of an ISLAND within a depth of 600 feet.
