Question 1. What did a priest do in Ancient Egypt?

Primary Source Evidence A Priest from the town of Sebennytos in the Nile Delta wrote a history of Egypt based on Ancient records. Unfortunately, his work has survived only in brief excerpts.

Answer There are lots of roles of being a Priest in Ancient Egypt. For example a Priest is to believe that the gods live in their temples and that they care for the God or Goddess with daily routines, such as, only a priest can approach the statue representing the god or goddess and to care for that particular god or goddess. Some priests were historians, another priest from the town Sebennytos in the Nile Delta wrote a history of Egypt based on Ancient records he found. But as time went on his work survived only a brief amount. A priest or priestess in ancient Egypt was generally chosen by either the king or a very important person.

The role of the priest was very important in Egyptian Society. The Egyptians believed the gods lived in the temples. Only the Priest was allowed to enter the sacred area of the temple and approach the statue representing the god or goddess. The people could pray at the gate or in the court to the Pharaoh who acted as a go-between the people and the gods. The Priests role was to care for the needs of the god/goddess. 2. What were Pyramids made out of?

Many of the pyramids were built with a number of different stone materials. Most of the material used was fairly rough, low grade limestone used to build the pyramid core, while fine white limestone was often employed for the outer casing as well as to cover interior walls, though pink granite was also often used on inner walls. Egypt is a country rich in stone and was sometimes even referred to as the "state of stone". In particular, Egypt has a great quantity of limestone formation, which the Egyptians called "white stone", because during the Cretaceous period Egypt was covered with seawater. The country is also rich in sandstone, but it was never really used much until the New Kingdom
