By Jack Wilson OWEN COYLE is the favourite to be named the new Wigan boss.

Roberto Martinez resigned from the post last week and is expected to be unveiled at Everton in the coming days. Ex-Bolton boss Coyle has been out of work since October and has admitted he's flattered to be linked with the FA Cup winners. And bookies think he will get the gig, making him the 5-4 favourite. If chairman Dave Whelan does offer Coyle the job it's expected he'd jump at the chance of getting back into football management. Irishman Coyle started his managerial career at Falkirk, where he was also signed on as a player. He subsequently enjoyed spells at St Johnstone and Burnley, who he guided into the Premier League, before moving to Bolton. But fans turned on him at the start of this season and in October he was sacked. Former Manchester United coach Rene Meulensteen, Steve McClaren and Karl Robinson are also in the running.
