| Povaridge of the Doddriage Family in England ant Anerica te the second (*) effort on the part of the collaboretors to prepare a short but coaprehencive history of one of their anceetral fanilies. Katerial for the etudy has been collected over « period of many years, and represente much tis and study ae well as extencive research. But while thie work has many faulte of ostesion, 1f 18 the hope of the compilers that other menbers of the Dodéridge Fently descendante, as woll as meabere of the collaterel fanilive, nay be sufficiently interested to do their shere in furnishing adéitional dete ent calling our attention to needed correstione. It 1a regretted that there 1s sone obscurity in the transition of the American Doédriége Fasily fros our inglieh ancestors, but fron all of the available Gate we heve assumed tho most logical connection, and have given our reseons for thks ssoumption, For, unfortunately, no actual recor’ has been found which vould show ue the arrival in this country of our tusediete Englishednerican Dodaridge ancestors. It de of interest to consider the elapec of tine froz the first record of the fauily in England, witch covers a period of over twelve hundred year fron A.D. 700 to the present time (1961); or, expressing it differently, of over fifty generations, based on the average number of years between generations in this family. ‘The continuously recorded history and geneslogy of the fanily () Pisastnos oY Ae Leueaes bani 3a Eaedapt en York Genealogical and Biographical Society Library, in Kew York City. i 4 covers over four hundred and sixty years, or more than tventy Generstions. And even this is a sizable family when 1t ie considered hat the number of one's ancestors increases by two vith each succeeding generation, so that by now each of us, the living, must consider that we have had over tvo million ancestors! In looking back over this long history of the Doddridge Fanily one 1s inclined to jeoulate as to what contemporary event in the Suter world might have occupied the attention of meabers of the fanily while each pew member of the fanily was naking his or her entrance upon the scene, And this curiosity on our parts hee resulted in the folloving collection of date which may be of Anterest to others who may look over the family history.
