Social Studies Final Project- The Civil War

You have the opportunity to think about what YOU want to become an expert in throughout the Civil War. You may choose to work independently on this project, or with one other classmate. There is a great deal of independent responsibility required to complete this project successfully, so think carefully about your decisions. In social studies, I will be teaching the content of the Civil War, and in reading and writing, you will be given the opportunity to research into your major interests! Your final submitted project may come in MANY different forms, but will require a great deal of reading and writing. Perhaps youd like to write a diary entry from the perspective of a slave, telling of daily life for you. Maybe youd like to write a nonfiction book (similar to the one that you did earlier in the year) portraying the violence, and outcome, of Antietam. Other suggestions would be to consider using ComicLife to teach about your topic, a diorama with a written description of what the diorama displays, or an iMovie using primary sources on your topic, with your voice narration accompanying it. Whatever you choose to do, recognize that with that choice comes a LOT of effort on your part to make this project amazing. Because you will be spending reading, writing, AND social studies time on this, the bar has been set high for the expected finished result. When you are reading and learning about the Civil War in great detail, you may come across an interest in wanting to research something that isnt suggested on the next page. Talk it over with Ms. Davis!
