ACTION SONGS

INTRODUCTION

IS A NEW COMPETITION WITH THE FOLLOWING AIMS :01. TO ENCOURAGE AND INCREASE THE USE OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE AMONG THE YOUNGER CHILDREN ESPECIALLY LEVEL 1.

02. TO EXPAND AND EXTEND

ACTION SONG AS A TEACHING / LEARNING TECHNIQUE AMONG ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHERS IN PRIMARY SCHOOLS.

03. TO DEVELOP SKILLS OF INTEGRATING AND SCRIPTING OF MUSIC AND MOVEMENT WITH LANGUAGE.

04. TO BUILD CONFIDENCE AND SENSE OF AT EASE WITH ENGLISH LANGUAGE AMONG THE YOUNGER PUPILS.

05. TO PROVIDE A PLATFORM FOR FUN AND HAPPY LEARNING

THE RULES

ELIGIBILITY # OPEN TO ALL LEVEL 1 PUPILS ONLY. TEAM # EACH TEAM SHOULD COMPRISE OF 15 PUPILS ACCOMPANIED BY 2 TEACHERS. PERFORMERS AND MUSICIANS SHOULD BE FROM WITHIN THIS 15 MEMBER TEAM.

TIME # A ON-STAGE PRESENTATION IS ALLOCATED 5-8 MINUTES. ( PRESENTATION TIME ). NO MARKS WILL BE AWARDED THEREAFTER. A TIME ALLOCATION OF 2-3 MINUTES ALLOCATED FOR STAGE ARRANGEMENTS DURING WHICH TIME NO MARKS WILL BE AWARDED. HERE THE TEACHERS ARE THE STAGE TECHNICIANS.

SCRIPT

1. SCRIPTS CAN BE ORIGINAL OR ADAPTED FROM ANY AUTHENTIC TEXTS. 2. PARTICIPANTS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO REFER TO ANY NOTES OR TEXTS DURING THE PRESENTATION.

3. FIVE COPIES OF THE SCRIPT HAS TO BE SUBMITTED TO THE 5 JUDGES ON THE DAY OF THE COMPETITION.
4. SCRIPTS SHOULD NOT TOUCH ON SENSITIVE ISSUES, EG. RACE, COLOUR, RELIGION, POLITICS AND NEITHER SHOULD THE PRESENTATION BELIE A PERSONAL ATTACK.

PRESENTATION

CREATIVITY IS ENCOURAGED. NEVERTHELESS, MOVEMENTS SHOULD NOT EXCEED AND OVERWHELM THE ARTICULATION OF SONG BY THE CHILDREN IN THE TEAM. WORK ON CHOREOGRAPH.

ATTIRE
ALL PARTICIPANTS ARE ALLOWED TO WEAR ANY ATTIRE, SUITABLE TO THE THEME CHOSEN.

BACKGROUND / PROPS

PROPS AND BACKGROUND AIDS SHOULD BE AT MINIMUM LEVEL.

MUSIC

USE OF RECORDED MUSIC IS ALLOWED. ( TAPE SHOULD NOT HAVE VOICES OR WORDS ) USE OF MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS ARE ALLOWED. HOWEVER, PARTICIPANTS MUST SING / SAY AND PERFORM TOGETHER WITH THE TEAM MEMBERS DURING PRESENTATION. MIMING IS STRICTLY PROHIBITED.

1. CHOOSE A SUITABLE THEME. 2. SELECT SUITABLE MUSIC ORIGINAL COMPOSITION OR ADAPTED. 3. SCRIPT WRITING- ORIGINAL OR ADAPTED. 4. COMBINE SCRIPT AND MUSIC. 5. SELECT STUDENTS 15 PUPILS

MTV- A STORY IN A SONG. STUDENTS ARE TO LISTEN TO THE PLOTS OF A SONG PLAYED, AND ACT BASED ON THE MOODS OF THE SONG. )

ACTIONS BY STUDENTS.
A. FOLLOWED BY STORY TELLING. TEACHER IS THE NARRATOR. STUDENTS WALK IN CIRCLE AND DO THE ACTIONS BASED ON THE STORY READ BY THE TEACHER.

B. USING INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC. STUDENTS LISTEN TO THE MUSIC PLAYED. WALK IN CIRCLE / FREELY AND ACT BASED ON THE MOODS OF THE MUSIC PLAYED.

ACTIVITIES DURING FOR DRAMA


ACTIVITY 1 ASK STUDENTS TO PREPARE A SIMPLE ROLE PLAY, SCRIPT USING ANY OBJECT AS A CENTRE OF ATTRACTION.

ACTIVITY 2. USING ANY OF THE FAMOUS MOVIES FROM CERTAIN TAKES. TRANSLATE FROM B.MELAYU TO ENGLISH AND ACT OUT FROM THE ORIGINAL ACT.

ACTIVITY 3. USING SONGS, CREATE A SCRIPT BASED ON THE PLOT OF THE SONG.
