Comments Report for Fall 2012, EG 5203 How We Learn Section 62

Instructor: Nordstrom, Tiffany (Primary) Text Responses Question: Comments about course as a whole: The course is exactly what I needed in order to implement some new measure in my own curriculum. I am using what I have learned already in my classrooms. I loved this course. The only opportunity I found was how the assignments were displayed. The previous classs assignments were presented in a linear format. This class seemed very different with staggered assignment due dates. This course is very interesting. The variety of dates was difficult to remember. I really enjoyed the discussion boards, however it was hard to follow because of the discussion format. I would have preferred another format. Question: Comments about teacher effectiveness: I have shared many of the articles that were presented with my co-workers. This is has been some of best online discussion I have had in a class and this is in large part due to the questions that were asked and the responsiveness of the professor. She makes individual comments on our discussion board, which shows how much she listens and cares for her students. She went over and above to give us extra information on things if we showed an interest or had a question about something. She is wonderful. I loved the knowledge this course provided. Question: Comments about interpersonal relationships: I did have some questions about a specific assignment and the response was not only gracious but extremely helpful. Great asset to your university. I know she cares about me, and this class is online---I can only imagine how more remarkable she would be if we were in a classroom setting. Question: Comments about evaluation methods: Often I am able to read only part of the reading assignment, but with this course I found I really needed to read everything and watch any supplemental videos because I would not be able to fully participate in the conversation otherwise. It has been nearly a month since this professor has graded assignments. I could not answer the question: "In contrast to rote memorization, to what extent did evaluations require critical thinking?" However, with every assignment we were given, critical thinking was a major factor. It went along with the course "How We Learn" She has a ton to grade, yet she always takes the time to give individual feedback as well as a grade. Question: Comments about classrom facilities: Online course. N/A Love the new iPad Online class
