In this lesson, students were to write a story. Students were instructed to write a fictional story using real people they know. Teacher 1 started the lesson on the carpet with the accompaniment of the Artists Story flipchart. She gave the premise of the story in a very animated way acting out characters and engaging students through questioning. There was a combination of strategies used during this lesson. It started with direct instruction, which led to a discussion about what their stories would be about. The promethean board was used to model for students and to map out the story elements. Teacher 1 transitioned from direct instruction to centers. Students went to their assigned tables, and began the writing process. They used graphic organizers to guide their work. They also drew pictures to accompany their stories. Students thoroughly enjoyed the lesson, especially when it was time to break off into centers. They enjoyed it so much that there were several sighs and expressions of disappointment when it was time to transition to the next subject. Teacher 1 monitored students by walking around, observing students work, and by asking questions. The content was relevant for students, and since they were able to use characters that were people they actually knew, it seemed easier for them to make connections and complete the activity. The overall approach to the lesson was interactive and student-centered. Students were engaged throughout the entire lesson.

Based on the work samples observed, students truly understood the lesson. Suggestions for improvement Students were thoroughly engaged, but extremely based on observation of this overactive. Comments: I thoroughly enjoyed observing this lesson. Teacher 1 is an awesome teacher. The strategies she used were just right for the content being taught, and her animated presentation was just the touch needed to keep all of her students attention.

Lesson Delivery Were the students engaged approximately 90-100% of the time? Explain briefly: Students were engaged approximately 100% of the time. The activities were very interactive, and the strategies used captured the students attention. When the time came for centers, students were so engaged that they were disappointed when it was time to transition to the next lesson.
