Name of Artifact: E-portfolio Date of Artifact: Spring 2013 Course: Education Field Experience EDUC 230-02 Rationale Statement: The definition of communication is The imparting or exchanging of information or news. My e-portfolio is an example of communicating; whether it is ideals, goals, philosophies, or information. This allows me to communicate with future employers and well as colleagues. They are not only able to see work that I have done and capable of doing, but it allows them to learn more about me as a person and pre-professional. Sharing my goals as a future educator connects me not only with a future employer, but it also connects me to the students, their parents and helps me to keep an open mind with regard to my teaching style and philosophy. In completing my e-portfolio throughout the semester, I learned many things with regard to teaching and beginning a career as an educator. With many of the artifacts connecting directly to students and the art of teaching, I learned how important it is to be clear and direct. In writing the welcome letter and the lesson plans, I learned the importance of having clearly in mind your audience and tailoring the message to fit them. It is important not to speak over their head, but it is also important to be direct in stating your expectations. The lesson plans will also help me to build off of in the future. Although not set in stone, the serve as a guide for future lessons. In the future, my e-portfolio will prove to be beneficial in many ways. One way is that it severs as a stepping stone for me as a future educator. Although not permanent, it is a guide that can help me develop my abilities as a professional. It also helps me to share with others what I have developed thus far and provide them with a visible reference of the work I am

capable of doing. The e-portfolio also provides me with the opportunity to introduce myself and let future employers and colleagues get to know a little more about me as a person outside of the classroom.
