Villalobos Microteaching #6- Authentic Material Find an ad in your target language and design an interpretive (literal and figurative comprehension) activity, Find a short reading in target lang. and design an interpretive exercise, Find an authentic song and design a communicative exercise or Cloze (i.e. fill in the blank) exercise. 9th Grade Spanish class WIDA Standard ELP 1 Speaking Level 2 Our warm up activity will consist of a review of the foods that the students learned in class the past few days, because our chapter focuses on Spanish foods and cultures. Objective: Students will be able to orally present/act out the processes of ordering from a menu in a restaurant. The goal is to use formal language because they are in a formal setting at a restaurant. The students will write out their dialogues and be given time to practice before presenting to the class. Materials: the attached menu (enough copies for each group to have one), magazines, grocery store flyers, paper plates, scissors and glue Procedure: While working in small groups of three or four, the students will designate one person to be the waiter/waitress and the others to be having a meal in a restaurant. The students can choose whether to have lunch or dinner and they will plan accordingly as to what they would like to eat based off the choices on the menu. The dialogue will start off with a greeting, go through the entire meal, and end with the customers leaving the restaurant. The students will present their dialogues to the class. Assessment: As the teacher, I will be able to see if the students use formal language and also how well they use manners such as please and thank you. As the teacher, I will be able to see how well the students have progressed with speaking the language. Follow Up Activity: Students will make a meal on a paper plate; they will have to cut out the pictures from magazines and grocery store flyers and paste them onto a paper plate, the students will name the foods and describe the meal they plan to serve or eat.
