Discussion of cultural nuances. Objective: Students will be able to identify the difference between past tense and present tense verbs. Grade: 1-2 ESL Presentation: story Our focus is going to be on verbs in the past tense, I will read a story to the students in the target language (English). I want to see how well the students identify the past tense verbs and the key words that make the story past tense. The story will be read aloud so that the students cannot see the story and this will focus on their aural comprehension. Attention: discussion & lists The attention is on past tense verbs. We will have a discussion about what the students notice as different from verbs in the present tense. We will then make a list of the verbs that are in the past tense on the chalkboard. Present tense Walk Go Plays Run Co-Construct: differences As a group the class will answer questions about what the differences are between present tense and past tense verbs. The students should be able to determine what the key words are that distinguish this story as the past tense. Extension: The students will create a short passage to tell a story of the past.
