Introduction
Background of the Study
The Philippines has been identified as one of
the world’s 34 biodiversity hotspots.
Philippine Flora and Fauna are in danger of
extinction
235 species of reptiles
66%-68% are endemic
19 species are present in Mt. Makiling
125 species of lizards
99 are unique to the country
Introduction
Statement of the Problem
To assess the state of lizard abundance
and diversity patterns in a fragmented
habitat (mahogany plantation)
compared with the older habitat
(secondary old growth forest) using
statistical methods usually employed in
ecological studies.
Introduction
Significance
The study will provide ecological
information through the use of statistical
tests the state of lizard diversity
patterns and species density at Mt.
Makiling as well as provide an
evaluation of the effects of habitat
fragmentation.
Introduction
Scope and Limitation
Lizard population patterns and species
density is the focus of this study. The
researchers will employ strip transect
distance sampling at the mahogany
plantation and secondary old growth
forests of Mt. Makiling and will be
conducted once in a month for six
months starting from June and will
culminate in November 2007.
