1. For the following molecular species, determine the transitional, rotational, vibrational, and total energy modes at 2900C: a) N2 b) C c) CH4 d) CO2 2. Consider a cylindrical container filled with octane (C8H18) under the following conditions: d = 150 mm l = 300 mm P = 3 bar T = 3500C Cp = 5532 J/kg.K a) Calculate the mass of octane in the system (you may assume octane behaves as an ideal gas) b) Recalculate the mass, assuming the container now has the following composition: 0.08C8H18 + 0.73N2 + 0.19O2 (recalling MWN2 = 28 g/mol, MWO2 = 32 g/mol)
