Procedure: 1. Students will be instructed to clear off their desks. 2. The teacher will tell the class that we are going to play games today within our spelling groups to practice for our test. 3. The teacher will explain the rules to Uno: a. Each player gets 7 cards. b. The first player places a card down, reads the word, and designates the pattern to be followed, for example, scarlet, ar. c. The next player places a card down with the ar pattern or the same color and reads it aloud and names the pattern. d. Players draw cards until they find a match if they do not have a word card to match the category. e. Players forfeit a turn if they do not read their contributions correctly. f. The object of the game is to be the first player to play all your cards. 4. The teacher will then explain the rules to Smack a. Each player will get 10 cards. b. At the same time the players will flip the cards over. c. If the rule is the same the player who smacks the cards first keeps the cards. d. If a player slaps the card and the rule does not match the other player gets the cards. e. Whoever has the most cards at the end wins. f. If time permits sort the words on the worksheet. Assessment: The teacher will walk around and make sure that students are participating and placing cards down accurately depending on the rule. Management Issues/Transition: The teacher will walk around and ensure that all the students are following the rules. Differentiation: The rules will be given to each group to make sure that students can look back at them. If students finish early there is a worksheet for the smack down game, and the UNO students may play again.
