August 23, 2012 Dear Heatha, In October, 2009, DRH was designated as a Magnet hospital by the American Nursing Credentialing Center (ANCC). Magnet designation recognizes excellence in nursing services and is considered the gold standard for nursing practice. Designation continues through four years, and in October, 2013, DRH will apply for Magnet Redesignation, and will again undergo a rigorous review by the ANCC. Our Magnet Redesignation journey involves providing documented evidence of how Magnet concepts and best practices have been sustained over the last four years, hosting an on-site visit from Magnet representatives, and applauding our excellent nurses, nursing staff, and ancillary services. Since the pursuit of Magnet is an organizational strategic priority, support and participation is sought from every leader and staff member throughout the hospital. A task of this magnitude is best led by a steering committee. A steering committee, or team, consists of persons who are dedicated, visionary, and talented. You have been identified as such. Because of skills you possess and your dedication to Magnet principles, you are invited to join the DRH Magnet Redesignation 2013 Steering team. The teams main objective is to help lead the effort toward Magnet Redesignation. Your supervisor supports your participation as a team member. All teams will ultimately be led by Deborah Leblanc, DRH VP Patient Care Services. The steering team will consist of seven selected members, and be chaired by the interim Magnet program manager, Pamela Mayes, who will also organize, facilitate, and support team members. Please see the below attachment for information about other Magnet Redesignation teams and their primary roles. Please respond to this request by August 30, 2012 (pmayes@dmc.org). Many thanks for service to DRH.
