SPARKLE-Spelling list word lesson plan: Standard: 2.RFS.

3- Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words. Objective: Students will be able to spell their spelling list words correctly and will be able to reinforce how to spell their list words. Procedure: 1. We will explain to the class we are playing a spelling game to practice our spelling words. 2. After, we will explain to the class we are playing a game called SPARKLE. They will be broken up into your spelling groups and will form a circle. One person in your group will be assigned to be the referee. This student will stand inside the circle and read the spelling list word. This student will be responsible for making sure everyone in the group is spelling the word correctly. 3. We explain to students then how to play the game! First you will pick a word and say the first letter of the word. Then, the next person in line will say the second letter. The student next in line says the third letter. This will continue until all letters of the list word have been spoken. The student in line AFTER the last letter then says the list word. The next student in line says, "SPARKLE" and is OUT, and sits down. We will explain to students anytime a student says the wrong letter; he/she is out and has to sit down. 4. After we have given the instructions for the spelling game we will model how to play the game with a simple word such as, ball. 5. We will also remind students to raise their hand when they have finished spelling the first word so we can assign a new referee. 6. Students will then be instructed to get into their spelling list groups and form a circle and begin. We will be around to monitor students throughout the activity. Assessment: Students will be assessed on if they can successfully spell their spelling list words with their group. Differentiation: This lesson is adapted to meet the needs of all different spelling levels because students will be placed in their spelling level groups.
