Assessment

Formative Assessment - Title Pages - Thumbs up / thumbs down - Class discussion - Observation of Participation The school context requires some give and take. A student might not be fully engaged in one activity, however they may be extremely excited about another. It is important that because this is an introduction lesson to a unit that requires a lot of participation the students do not feel pressure from the start. Give the students appropriate time to warm up the new approach.

Modification

Extension -

You could allow for students to present their cover pages in front of their peers if the classroom community was appropriately established previously. Students could play two truths and a lie in small groups as a way to help develop classroom community at the beginning of the unit.
