The students will be able to explain the immediate and lasting effect on American workers caused by innovations of the New Deal, including the Social Security Act, the FDIC, and the CCC.

Varying Objectives for Individuals Needs

I will vary the objective for students by using a variety of instructional strategies. Students who mastered the activity will receive another activity to complete. All students should be busy at all times. The students who barely speak English will be sat in the front of the class, and will be allowed to work with other students as requested

. Its important the students know about the New Deal programs because they were created to help Americans, and some of these programs are active today.

Statement of Purpose

Materials and Resources

Teacher Materials: Computer Whiteboard PACT book

Student Materials: Glue stick Paper Pencil PACT book

Anticipatory Set

What kind of program would you create to help Americans in the Great Depression? How would you determine who would be helped? ~~~~~~~~Or~~~~~~~ Lets think about it. Imagine if you were the President during this time and you wanted to help the American people. What kind of programs would you come up with to help the people and how would you determine who to help?

Part II: IMPLEMENTATION

Oral assessment as I review the Essential Questions for the first time. I will state my expectations of them at the beginning of each class and at the beginning of each assessment to encourage students to participate in their learning. I will also demonstrate the proper technique to complete their individual assignment.

Pre-assessment

Teacher Modeling or Demonstration

Guided Practice

We will read together and I will demonstrate what their final work should look like on construction paper. By completing this, the students will know what their work is expected to look like. Then they will get in a group to complete the assignment.

Checking for Understanding

I will allow the students to put their thumbs up if they understand and thumbs down if they dont understand. We will also use some clickers, which will show me how many students answer a question correctly. If they dont, I will use another instructional strategy.

Independent Practice

The students will work, read more information and answer the review questions in the social studies book dealing with the New Deal. I will conclude this lesson by asking each row a different question and they must answer to leave the room. This is their Ticket out the Door. I use a different question to have more responses. I will

Closure

reinforce the lesson by going beyond the question and have students explain more about the content.

Assessment (attach to lesson plan)

To demonstrate what they learn, the students must complete the group activity which they had to match the program to its purpose. They will also have a quiz at the end of the lesson.

Extension Activities

The students can go home and find out which members in their family or community are using these programs President Roosevelt created in the New Deal. I can use some colleagues and community agencies to come speak to the students about the programs that saved their business or discuss which program is beneficial to them personally.

Technology

The lesson will be introduced through a PowerPoint. PowerPoint is a creative way to deliver content to students. They pay more attention to the slides than they do to the book. The students will hear me read the content, they will hear some classmates read the content, and they can read the content themselves. They should enhance their comprehension of the content.

Connection Across the Curriculum

Math~ The students will demonstrate their understanding of the time difference of the programs and how long they existed. Science~ We will research some of the New Deal programs and see how it helped the environment. ELA~ The student will be reading and writing about the New Deal.

PART III: REFLECTION

All students participated in the activity, especially in the group activity. My great classroom management skills allowed me to complete my lesson in a timely manner. The students overall averaged an 80.

Strengths

Weaknesses

Varying the instructional strategy and creating study sheets for the students. I am learning. As we read, some students were not focused. I have to figure these students out and engage them more in the lesson.

Suggestions for Improvement

I will have more activities to engage the students in the lesson. More activities the better. They enjoy it more than reading from a book.
