Dr. Greg Peavy Principal, Northside High School

Dear Dr. Peavy, We are very excited to share with you all of the recent happenings in the Northside High School Media Center. March has been a very busy month filled with many events including student activities and learning opportunities that we would like to share with you. The first week in March marked the beginning of the App your way to better grades campaign. We were able to put up posters all around school to highlight the various opportunities students had to come view the presentation and hands on tutorial to learn how to use mobile applications to help organize their life and their studies in order to perform better in class and subsequently receive better grades. During the third week of March we hosted a variety of activities to highlight Teen Tech Week. We began with a call to all faculty and students to bring in used technology. We had a tremendous turn out with technology artifacts from almost all decades of the 20th century! Some of the highlights were a working Atari console as well as a rotary telephone from the 1930s Students also participated in a Meme contest to highlight the resources in the Northside High School Media Center. Students turned out for this even in record numbers as we had over 45 Memes submitted during the contest time. The winner of the contest, R. Nelson, received an extended Kindle checkout and a goodie bag from the Media Center staff. Our Spring Weeding efforts also played a big role in March activities as we continued to weed some additional 800+ titles from the collection. We continue to host a used book sale with proceeds going back into purchasing student and teacher resources for the Media Center. We have raised close to $1000 to date. We continue to look forward to what the rest of the weeding and book sale will help raise for our school. Please feel free to come by and checkout the technology display and peruse the books we have for sale. We look forward to an exciting end of the semester and look forward to opportunities to serve the Northside High School community in the coming weeks and months.

Best Regards, Courtney Flore & Steven Hornyak Northside High School Media Center
