Interim submission: Students will be advised individually of interim submission dates, during term time, to mark the progress of their journals. FINAL: To be submitted by 8.30am Monday 14 October 2013 This task must be completed on a website called Weebly. Individual, password protected accounts have been set up. Each student already has the login details for these.

VALUE: TASK:

30% (290 marks) Students are to maintain a learning journal to show what they have learnt during the study of Commerce and how they have reflected on the content of Commerce during the year.

SPECIAL ADVICE: Learning Journal Content: The learning journal is to demonstrate a progression of understanding of the Content of this course throughout the year and its application to the wider world. It must contain the following pages:

This page is to include a hyperlink to each of the activities that are assessable in this learning journal. The hyperlink must include words about the topic AND the date it was completed. Eg. Bank_rates_climbing_1_3_13
2) OUR ECONOMY PAGE

A newspaper article, created by the student (see marking criteria), to describe the Great Depression in either Australia or the United States of America (based on Activity 8 on page 283 of the textbook) (20 marks) A reflection of the Our Economy Assessment task. Refer Appendix C for the template. (10 marks) Any classwork that is completed on the computer for this topic. (No marks)

3) RUNNING A BUSINESS/ PROMOTING AND SELLING PAGE

2 analyses of advertising campaigns reflecting on the target market for the campaign and how effective the campaign is. (10 marks each, 20 marks in total) A spreadsheet to prepare the financial statements for Activities 8, 9 and 10 on page 325 of the textbook. Formula must be used in the spreadsheet. Marks will be lost if there is no evidence of formulae. (30 marks) Student created PowerPoint presentation to argue whether advertising creates unrealistic expectations that many consumers can never attain. The presentation needs to include evidence to support the student argument, include any specific advertisements that support this. (20 marks) A reflection on the assessment task for this topic using the template in Appendix C. (10 marks) Any classwork that is completed on the computer for this topic. (No marks)

5) MEDIA FILE BLOG 28 analyses of newspaper articles reflecting on how the items of media selected relate to the concepts discussed in class (5 marks for each article, 140 marks in total). A template for this analysis is attached. A reflection on the ASX Stock Market games (second for 2013) (10 marks) A spreadsheet to track their ASX Portfolio for Game 2 (20 marks)

Presentation of Learning Journal Students may exercise some creativity in how they design and manage their website through Weebly. However, please ensure that the marker is able to find each of the assessable components to be included on the site through the hyperlinks. Other Homework Tasks During 2012 With the exception of some incomplete classwork, it is anticipated that this will be the Commerce homework for 2013. Additionally, students should have ample opportunity in class to work on many of the tasks required for this journal/blog.

About Weebly: Weebly is an independent site which allows students to create their own website. These websites will be used to display their classwork, demonstrating their understanding of the course. Individual user accounts are managed by the teacher, who has issued each student with their username and password. The site is accessed through the following URL. https://students.weebly.com The teacher is only able to view student websites after they publish the information. They are encouraged to publish the information regularly so that progress on their task can be monitored. As part of the publishing processes, students are asked to create their own URL. Security of student information is maintained, as all Arden students have had their URL addresses password protected. Once the site is published on 14 October 2013, students are to make no further changes to their site. Appendix B Analysis of Advertisements


This information is additional to the information contained in the Assessment No 5 Task Notification, specifically:
1. 2 analyses of advertising campaigns reflecting on the target market for the campaign and how effective the campaign is. (10 marks each, 20 marks in total)

Students need to choose 2 advertisements. They could be either print, TV or radio. With those advertisements, they need to state the target market for the advertisements. Then they should write at least 2 paragraphs on each advertisement to explain whether they feel the advertisement in effective. Target market: refers to the group of consumers are product is targeted at. Be specific and refer to Demographics, Geographics and Behavioural characteristics of the target market. Effectiveness of the advertising campaign: Decide some criteria to measure the campaign against. Students then need to state whether they believe the advertisement is effective or not based on these criteria. It is suggested that each advertisement analysis should be 1 A4 page in length. An example of the layout would be:
