"Managing Conflict: “DESC-it and Advocate for Patient Safety” on Wednesday, April 1,

Speakers:

Jana Deen RN, BSN, JD, CPHRM is patient safety officer and vice president at Catholic
Healthcare Partners in Ohio. She transitioned to her current position in 2006 after serving
as regional risk officer and associate counsel for ten years. Her passion for patient safety
is, in part, driven by her disappointment with traditional risk management and litigation
approaches. She leads a team of four divisional patient safety officers who strive to create
and sustain a culture of patient safety across Catholic Healthcare Partners through strategy
and tools, such as the survey on patient safety culture, leadership engagement,
teamwork/TeamSTEPPS and patient safety walk rounds.

Sherri Simons, RN, MA, NA is a member of the Healthcare Team Coordination Program
(HCTCP) with experience in all phases of TeamSTEPPS as a Master trainer and coach.
She has also authored marketing materials for the MHS and the National Patient Safety
Foundation on patient safety. She has over 17 years nursing experience in Labor &
Delivery, Post-partum, Nursery, and Neonatal Intensive Care.
