Task I:
Connect the 1m fiber between the transmitter and the receiver. Select Analog mode in both transmitter and receiver. Apply 10 KHz, 1 V peak to peak sinusoidal voltage at transmitter. Observe the output signal at receiver. Vary Amplitude of input from 0.75 V P-P to 1.5 V P-P. Plot the output vs. the input. Change the switch at receiver to Voice mode, Listen to various signals frequency and signal forms.

After connecting the Fiber, Tx, Rx and we set the needed peak to peak voltage and the frequency we turned on the CRO and got the following outputs:

This shows that the input voltage is critically decreased because of the line attenuation causing this visible decrease in performance.

Task II Loss Measurement:


Use the previous setup. Apply 1 V P-P at the transmitter. Measure the output signal ( ) using the CRO. Replace the 1m fiber by the 3m one. Measure the output signal ( ) using the CRO. Calculate (the loss in the fiber dB/m), Using the following relation:

Using this equation 2 = 10 log (0.41/0.31) = 0.60711

Task III Bandwidth Study:


Connect the transmitter and the receiver with 1m fiber. Apply 1 V P-P at the transmitter. Connect the receiver to the CRO. Vary the transmitter frequency as 0, 100Hz, 1 KHz, 10 KHz, 100 KHz, 500 KHz, 1 MHz, 2 MHz and 3 MHz. Record the amplitude at receiver output.

Comments: @ 1 MHz the gain increases then it start to decrease reaching its minimum. @ 100 KHz the gain starts to increase then it suddenly drops to decrease at the end.

Task IV Sound:
After connecting the Speaker jack it seems to whenever we increase the voltage the volume
increases while if we increase the frequency the pitch of the sound increases.
