Success is Easy, But So is Neglect by Jim Rohn People often ask me how I became successful in that six-year period of time whil e many of the people I knew did not. The answer is simple: The things I found to be easy to do, they found to be easy not to do. I found it easy to set the goal s that could change my life. They found it easy not to. I found it easy to read the books that could affect my thinking and my ideas. They found that easy not t o. I found it easy to attend the classes and the seminars, and to get around oth er successful people. They said it probably really wouldn't matter. If I had to sum it up, I would say what I found to be easy to do, they found to be easy not to do. Six years later, I'm a millionaire and they are all still blaming the eco nomy, the government, and company policies, yet they neglected to do the basic, easy things. In fact, the primary reason most people are not doing as well as they could and should, can be summed up in a single word: neglect.

It is not the lack of money - banks are full of money. It is not the lack of opp ortunity - America, and much of the free World, continues to offer the most unpr ecedented and abundant opportunities in the last six thousand years of recorded

history. It is not the lack of books libraries are full of books - and they are free! It is not the schools - the classrooms are full of good teachers. We have plenty of ministers, leaders, counselors and advisors. Everything we would ever need to become rich and powerful and sophisticated is w ithin our reach. The major reason that so few take advantage of all that we have is simply neglect. Neglect is like an infection. Left unchecked it will spread throughout our entir e system of disciplines and eventually lead to a complete breakdown of a potenti ally joy-filled and prosperous human life. Not doing the things we know we should do causes us to feel guilty and guilt lea ds to an erosion of self-confidence. As our self-confidence diminishes, so does the level of our activity. And as our activity diminishes, our results inevitabl y decline. And as our results suffer, our attitude begins to weaken. And as our attitude begins the slow shift from positive to negative, our self-confidence di minishes even more... and on and on it goes. So my suggestion is that when giving the choice of easy to and easy not to that you do not neglect to do the simple, basic, easy but potentially life-changing activit ies and disciplines.

Vitamins for the Mind by Jim Rohn Personal Philosophy Economic disaster begins with a philosophy of doing less and wanting more. If you want to amend your errors, you must begin by amending your philosophy. The only thing worse than not reading a book in the last ninety days is not read ing a book in the last ninety days and thinking that it doesn't matter. Your personal philosophy is the greatest determining factor in how your life wor ks out. Initial response illustrates a great deal about someone's personal philosophy. Only human beings can reorder their lives any day they choose by refining their philosophy. If you spend five minutes complaining, you have just wasted five minutes. If you continue complaining, it won t be long before they haul you out to a financial des ert and there let you choke on the dust of your own regret. Jim Rohn Your Dream and the Only Opinion that Counts by Cynthia Kersey

The only opinion about your dream that really counts is yours. The negative comm ents of others merely reflect their limitations - not yours. Fashion photographer Richard Avedon tried to convince Cher that she didn't have the right look to be a model. He told her flat out, "You will never make the co ver of Vogue because you don't have blond hair or blue eyes." When she did, Vog ue sold more copies than it had ever sold before.

When Gustave Leven was making plans to launch Perrier in the United States, seve ral consulting firms advised him, "You're foolish to try to sell sparkling water in the land of Coca-Cola drinkers." A New York publisher told James Michener after reading his first unpublished man uscript, "You're a good editor with a promising future in the business. Why wou ld you want to throw it all away to try to be a writer? I read your book. Fran kly, it's not really that good." Michener's manuscript, titled Tales of the Sou th Pacific, eventually was sold and later won a Pulitzer Prize and was adapted f or stage and screen as "South Pacific." Remember, there is nothing unrealistic about a dream that aligns with your purpo se, ignites your passion, and inspires you to plan and persevere until you attai n it. On the contrary, it's unrealistic to expect a person with such drive and commitment not to succeed.

The Magic of Dreams Failure. Rejection. Domestic abuse. Divorce. Clinical depression. These were the nightmares experienced by an out-of-work single mother living on welfare and contemplating suicide. If that person wrote a book for kids, would you let your kids read it? More than 400 million people have. If that person wrote novels leading to movies about magic, good and evil, life a nd death, do you think they would be successful? Eight blockbuster movies with box office earnings totaling more than $7 billion suggest they might. Going from broke, jobless and living on the dole to a multimillionaire in less t han five years sounds like a great American rags-to-riches story, except J.K. Rowling is British and today she s richer than the queen of England. Although I haven t read any of her books, the story behind the story is riveting, fantastical and seemingly magical. Seven years after graduating university, the unemployed divorced mother saw hers elf as the biggest failure she knew. Clinically depressed and contemplating suicide, she turned her despair into her inspiration. Failure meant a stripping away of the inessential. I stopped pretending to myself that I was anything other than what I was and began to direct all my energy to finishing the only work that mattered to me, Rowling said in a 2008 commencement

speech at Harvard University titled The Fringe Benefits of Failure. Had I really su cceeded at anything else, I might never have found the determination to succeed in the one area where I truly belonged. I was set free, because my greatest fear had been realized, and I was still alive, and I still had a daughter whom I ado red, and I had an old typewriter and a big idea. And so rock bottom became a sol id foundation on which I rebuilt my life. Rowling wrote her first novel in cafes, walking from one to the other, taking he r daughter with her so she would tire along the way and sleep while Rowling wrot e. She pounded out her first manuscript on a manual typewriter and completed it in 1995, the year of her 30th birthday. Numerous publishers rejected the manuscript before the owner of a small publishi ng house was convinced by his 8-year-old daughter to publish the first Harry Pot ter book. And the rest of the story you know. Forbes estimates her fortune at $1 billion, and she was the runner-up for Time m agazine s person of the year in 2007. Our latest issue of SUCCESS features our achiever of the year and finalists. We search the world over to bring you these stories so you can see that, with persi stence, passion and relentless commitment, people with no more resources than th e rest of us can indeed make their dreams come true. I want your dreams to come true, too. They are possible. You can achieve them. Simply never give up. No matter what, never give up. On September 5, 1965, Earl Shoaff died from complications of pneumonia. Some of his quotes include: "Don't trust your memory, keep a journal." "This is not all the company pays...it's all they pay YOU!" "Work harder on yourself than you do on your job." "Profits are better than wages." "It doesn't cost too much, the truth is, you can't afford it!" "The true mark of greatness is not found in what a person does with their own li fe. It is found in helping others discover that, they too, can become great." "Nothing comes to us, everything comes through us from us. Everything in this wo rld that happens to us comes from in here, not out here." "Let's not be moons, the reflector of the light. Let's be suns. Let's be the cre ator of the light - the creator of ideas. We all have the capacity." "Some things you have to do every day. Eating seven apples on Saturday night ins tead of one a day just isn't going to get the job done." -- Jim Rohn "Sometimes you need to stay in touch but be out of reach." -- Jim Rohn Wherever You Are, Be There by Jim Rohn One of the major reasons why we fail to find happiness or to create unique lifes tyle is because we have not yet mastered the art of being. While we are home our thoughts are still absorbed with solving the challenges we face at the office. And when we are at the office we find ourselves worrying ab out problems at home. We go through the day without really listening to what others are saying to us. We may be hearing the words, but we aren't absorbing the message. As we go through the day we find ourselves focusing on past experiences or futur e possibilities. We are so involved in yesterday and tomorrow that we never even

notice that today is slipping by. We go through the day rather than getting something from the day. We are everywh ere at any given moment in time except living in that moment in time.

Lifestyle is learning to be wherever you are. It is developing a unique focus on the current moment, and drawing from it all of the substance and wealth of expe rience and emotions that it has to offer. Lifestyle is taking time to watch a su nset. Lifestyle is listening to silence. Lifestyle is capturing each moment so t hat it becomes a new part of what we are and of what we are in the process of be coming. Lifestyle is not something we do; it is something we experience. And unt il we learn to be there, we will never master the art of living well.

Vitamins for the Mind by Jim Rohn Words/Vocabulary The two great words of antiquity are behold and beware. Behold the possibilities and beware the temptations. Vocabulary enables us to interpret and to express. If you have a limited vocabul ary, you will also have a limited vision and a limited future. Well chosen words mixed with measured emotions is the basis of affecting people. It s okay to send flowers, but don t let the flowers do all the talking. Flowers hav e a limited vocabulary. About the best flowers can say is that you remembered. B ut your words tell the rest. Words do two major things: They provide food for the mind and create light for u nderstanding and awareness. "The most important question to ask on the job is not "What am I getting?" The most important question to ask on the job is "What am I becoming? Jim Rohn Get Past the Former Excuses by Cynthia Kersey Choose once and for all to get past all of the former excuses that stopped you f rom achieving your goal or dream and step into your power by saying: "This is my time, my life, my moment of truth. I will not stop until I achieve my goal!" Realizing that being unstoppable is simply a decision that you make every day, e very hour, or sometimes every minute gives you the awareness that it is a choice .

And every time you choose to honor your commitment and take a single step, you a re honoring yourself and exercising your self-discipline muscle. With each step you take, that muscle will grow stronger and stronger, making it easier to bring about change in your life. Your time is now. Make a pledge to yourself that you are fully committed to reac hing your goal.

The Time to React by Jim Rohn Engaging in genuine discipline requires that you develop the ability to take act ion. You don't need to be hasty if it isn't required, but you don't want to lose much time either. Here's the time to act: when the idea is hot and the emotion is strong. Let's say you would like to build your library. If that is a strong desire for y ou, what you've got to do is get the first book. Then get the second book. Take action as soon as possible, before the feeling passes and before the idea dims. If you don't, here's what happens YOU FALL PREY TO THE LAW OF DIMINISHING INTENT

We intend to take action when the idea strikes us. We intend to do something whe n the emotion is high. But if we don't translate that intention into action fair ly soon, the urgency starts to diminish. A month from now the passion is cold. A year from now it can't be found. So take action. Set up a discipline when the emotions are high and the idea is s trong, clear, and powerful. If somebody talks about good health and you're motiv ated by it, you need to get a book on nutrition. Get the book before the idea pa sses, before the emotion gets cold. Begin the process. Fall on the floor and do some push-ups. You've got to take action; otherwise the wisdom is wasted. The em otion soon passes unless you apply it to a disciplined activity. Discipline enab les you to capture the emotion and the wisdom and translate them into action. Th e key is to increase your motivation by quickly setting up the disciplines. By d oing so, you've started a whole new life process. Here is the greatest value of discipline: self-worth, also Many people who are teaching self-esteem these days don't ine. But once we sense the least lack of discipline within to erode our psyche. One of the greatest temptations is to bit. Instead of doing your best, you allow yourself to do an your best. Sure enough, you've started in the slightest sense of self-worth. known as self-esteem. connect it to discipl ourselves, it starts just ease up a little just a little less th way to decrease your

There is a problem with even a little bit of neglect. Neglect starts as an infec tion. If you don't take care of it, it becomes a disease. And one neglect leads

to another. Worst of all, when neglect starts, it diminishes our self-worth. Once this has happened, how can you regain your self-respect? All you have to do is act now! Start with the smallest discipline that corresponds to your own phi losophy. Make the commitment: I will discipline myself to achieve my goals so tha t in the years ahead I can celebrate my successes.

Vitamins for the Mind by Jim Rohn Lifestyle Let others lead small lives, but not you. Let others argue over small things, bu t not you. Let others cry over small hurts, but not you. Let others leave their future in someone else's hands, but not you. Lifestyle is the art of discovering ways to live uniquely. Some people have learned to earn well, but they haven't learned to live well. Earn as much money as you possibly can and as quickly as you can. What you don t know will hurt you.

Developing Desire to Succeed by Tom Hopkins Here are three methods of developing a burning desire to succeed. They will work if you want them to. 1. The greatest obstacle to developing desire is a conviction that we ll never be able to fulfill it. So many people discourage desire to avoid the frustration th ey may encounter. If you don t have a burning desire to better your life, you re che ating yourself and your loved ones with phony excuses. You re choosing a level of life that s poor compared to what you could have with the extra exertion you re capa ble of. It s all on your shoulders and there s no way you can shift a bit of the res ponsibility to anyone else.

2. Focus on the specific things you want. Make agreements with yourself. When I do this, I get that. Don t try to make yourself work for nothing. 3. Take it in steps. If you ve never made more than minimum wage, don t aim for half a million dollars the first year. The essential element is faith in yourself.

I know former migrant farm workers who came out of the fields and made themselve s wealthy. If your sunshine wants far outstrip your cold morning desire, have a talk with yourself, then have a lot more talks. Convince yourself you can succee d and will succeed.

There are two parts to influence: First, influence is powerful; and second, influ ence is subtle. You wouldn t let someone push you off course, but you might let so meone nudge you off course and not even realize it. Jim Rohn

"Success is nothing more than a few simple disciplines, practiced every day; whi le failure is simply a few errors in judgment, repeated every day. It is the acc umulative weight of our disciplines and our judgments that leads us to either fo rtune or failure. Jim Rohn My father taught me to always do more than you get paid for as an investment in your future." -- Jim Rohn No Matter How Busy You Are by Jim Rohn No matter how busy you are, make sure to find some time over the next two weeks to reflect, think, give and plan. The week between Christmas and New Year s is the ideal time for this. Try to slow things down. Spend time with the ones you love and care about. Take some time to talk with your spouse and kids about goals and dreams for the next year. Use th is as a time to recharge your batteries (and not just by watching TV the entire time), and with excitement, think about a handful of changes or additions you wa nt for your life in the New Year. I believe you will find the act of reflecting, thinking, dreaming and planning ( with your family) to be one of the most important exercises you can do that will positively impact the next 12 months. And, remember, do not neglect to commit yourself to set this time aside, or you will find that the business of life can and will get in the way.

So, let s all take a moment to gather up the past year of victories and defeats, g rowing as well as those times of stagnation, and use it to wipe a clean slate an d thoughtfully design the next year the way we truly desire it to be.

Vitamins for the Mind by Jim Rohn Values The major value in life is not what you get. The major value in life is what you become. That is why I wish to pay fair price for every value. If I have to pay for it or earn it, that makes something of me. If I get it for free, that makes nothing of me.

All values must be won by contest, and after they have been won, they must be de fended. Don't sell out your virtue and your value for something you think you want. Juda s got the money, but he threw it all away and hung himself because he was so unh appy with himself. Values were meant to be costly. If it doesn't cost much, we probably wouldn't ap preciate the value. Count the cost first. Don't pay too big a price for pursuing minor values. Be Committed to Keeping Your Personal and Professional Life in Balance by Denis Waitley It is so important to be living in prime time, rather than watching TV in prime time. On your way to success make certain you grow friendships, not just bank an d mutual fund accounts. Life is a collection of memories, not of material things . The Egyptian pharaohs were buried with all their treasures, and were mummified in hopes that they could enjoy their bounty in the next life. But we are only c aretakers of possessions. There is a big difference between standard of living a nd quality of life. Standard of living is based on income earned. Quality of lif e is the enjoyment of the millions of minutes in between accomplishments.

Having money is only one aspect of wealth. To the sick person, wealth is health. To the lonely person, wealth is someone to talk to and share with. To the estra nged person, wealth is hearing words of love and forgiveness. Borrowing the free verse style from Brother Jeremiah s classic poem, I d Pick More D aisies, here are a few things I d do, the second time around. I d laugh at my misfortunes more. Spend more time counting my blessings than my bl emishes. Spend more time playing with my children and grandchildren and less tim e watching performers in the arena. More time enjoying what I have, less time th inking about the things I don t have. If I could live my life again, I d walk in the rain more without an umbrella and listen less to weather reports. I d spend more time looking at trees and climbing them, less time flipping through magazines ma de from dead trees. I d spend more time fully involved in the present moment, less time remembering and anticipating. I d smile more, frown less. And most of all I d be more spontaneous and active, less hesitant and subdued. Whe n some spur of the moment idea came up to go hiking, playing Frisbee, coloring E aster eggs, singing in a chorus, going kayaking, or watching an eclipse, I d be le

ss likely to sit in my chair objecting,

It s not in our plan.

I d be inclined to jump up and run out the door next time and say, Yes, we can! Alth ough I can t live my life again, I m still going to live the new way every day any w ay. I ll never have all the moments I ve missed, but I do have all the time remainin g. Action Idea: Choose one activity this month that you really want to engage in, b ut that you have been putting off because it isn t a priority. Schedule that activ ity in your planner, as if it were a must do business or financial commitment. Whe n you have done it, while you are still feeling good, schedule one for next mont h, and do it as long as you live.

"Find someone who is willing to share the truth with you." -- Jim Rohn According to Robbins, Rohn taught him that "happiness and success in life are n ot the result of what we have, but rather of how we live. What we do with the th ings we have makes the biggest difference in the quality of life Learn how to say no. Don't let your mouth overload your back." -- Jim Rohn "To become financially independent you must turn part of your income into capita l; turn capital into enterprise; turn enterprise into profit; turn profit into i nvestment; and turn investment into financial independence." -- Jim Rohn It's best to start the discipline of generosity when the amounts are small. It's easy to give ten cents out of a dollar; it's a little harder to give a hundred thousand out of a million." -- Jim Rohn "The greatest source of unhappiness comes from inside." -- Jim Rohn "Life and business is like the changing seasons. You cannot change the seasons, but you can change yourself. Therein lies the opportunity to live an extraordina ry life--the opportunity to change yourself." -- Jim Rohn Today brings to each of us 1,440 minutes; 86,400 ticks of the clock. Both the po or and the wealthy have the same 24 hours of opportunity. Time favors no one. To day merely says, Here I am. What are you going to do with me? How well we use each day is largely a function of attitude. With the right attitude we can seize thi s day and make it a point of new beginning. Today does not care about yesterday s failures or tomorrow s regrets. It merely offers the same precious gift -- another 24 hours -- and hopes that we will use it wisely. Without a sense of urgency, desire loses its value. - Jim Rohn "Nothing is more powerful for your future than being a gatherer of good ideas an d information. That's called doing your homework." -- Jim Rohn We generally change ourselves for one of two reasons: inspiration or desperation . Jim Rohn "We all know a variety of ways to make a living. What's even more fascinating is figuring out ways to make a fortune." -- Jim Rohn Stop looking at others who live the good life, wishing that you were too, and in stead begin to commit to your improvement, develop a plan and act on it. Today,

someone is going to... Will it be you? Take advice, but not orders. Only give yourself orders. Abraham Lincoln once sai d, 'Since I will be no one's slave, I will be no one's master.'" -- Jim Rohn The major value in life is not what you get. The major value in life is what you become. That is why I wish to pay fair price for every value. If I have to pay for it or earn it, that makes something of me. If I get it for free, that makes nothing of me. Jim Rohn We have all the time we need. We all have lots of chances - lots of opportunitie s - lots of years to show what we can do. For most of us, there will be a tomorr ow, a next week, a next month, and a next year. But unless we develop a sense of urgency, those brief windows of time will be sadly wasted, as were the weeks an d months and years before them. There isn't an endless supply! Success is doing ordinary things extraordinary well. "Life and business is like the changing seasons. You cannot change the seasons, but you can change yourself. Therein lies the opportunity to live an extraordina ry life--the opportunity to change yourself." -- Jim Rohn "The most important thing that affects us is our dreams--our ability to see the future. But here's why we don't reach into the future. We're trapped either by r egret of the past or the routine of the present. So make sure that the greatest pull on you is the pull of the future." -- Jim Rohn The development of a sound philosophy prepares us for making sound decisions. Li ke the architect, we must learn to see in our minds the result we wish to achiev e, and then go to work on building a solid foundation to support this vision. On ce the vision is clearly defined and the foundation has been firmly established, then the choices required to complete the structure are easily and wisely made. You must either modify your dreams or magnify your skills." -- Jim Rohn "You must take personal responsibility. You cannot change the circumstances, the seasons, or the wind, but you can change yourself. That is something you have c harge of. You don't have charge of the constellations, but you do have charge of whether you read, develop new skills, and take new classes." -- Jim Rohn "To become financially independent you must turn part of your income into capita l; turn capital into enterprise; turn enterprise into profit; turn profit into i nvestment; and turn investment into financial independence." -- Jim Rohn "Without a sense of urgency, desire loses its value." -- Jim Rohn "The challenge of leadership is to be strong, but not rude; be kind, but not wea k; be bold, but not a bully; be thoughtful, but not lazy; be humble, but not tim id; be proud, but not arrogant; have humor, but without folly." -- Jim Rohn "It's too bad failures don't give seminars. Wouldn't that be valuable? If you me et a guy who has messed up his life for forty years, you've just got to say, 'Jo hn, if I bring my journal and promise to take good notes, would you spend a day with me?'" -- Jim Rohn The big challenge is to become all that you have the possibility of becoming. Yo u cannot believe what it does to the human spirit to maximize your human potenti al and stretch yourself to the limit." -- Jim Rohn Don't join an easy crowd; you won't grow. Go where the expectations and the dema nds to perform are high. "I don't believe that adversity by itself builds character and I certainly don't think that success erodes it. Character is built by how you respond to what hap pens in your life." -- Jim Rohn If you don't design your own life plan, chances are you'll fall into someone else

's plan. And guess what they have planned for you? Not much." Jim Rohn "The best motivation is self-motivation. The guy says, "I wish someone would com e by and turn me on." What if they don't show up? You've got to have a better pl an for your life." -- Jim Rohn So as you think of your dreams and goals of your future tomorrow, begin today to take those very important first steps to making them all come to life. Today! Make rest a necessity, not an objective. Only rest long enough to gather strengt h. "When Andrew Carnegie died, they discovered a sheet of paper upon which he had w ritten one of the major goals of his life: to spend the first half of his life a ccumulating money and to spend the last half of his life giving it all away. And he did!" -- Jim Rohn "To succeed in sales, simply talk to lots of people every day. And here s what s exc iting there are lots of people!" -- Jim Rohn Before you are tempted to give up or get discouraged, remember all success is ba sed on long term commitment, faith, discipline, attitude and a few stepping ston es along the way. You might not like the stone you are on right now, but it's su re to be one of the stones that lead to great opportunities in the future Every day is filled with dozens of personal crossroads -- moments when we are ca lled upon to make a decision regarding minor as well as major questions. It is i mportant to remember that each and every one of the choices we make during these moments of decision charts a path leading to some future destination. Just as t he sum total of our past decisions has led us to our current circumstances, the decisions we make today will lead us to the rewards or the regrets of the future . Here's the best accounting. The accounting you make of yourself. Don't wait for the government to do it, don't wait for the company to do it. You've got to add up some of your own numbers and ask, "Am I making the progress I want and will i t take me where I want to go now and in the future?" You be the judge. There are four "ifs" in the area of growth and change that make life worthwhile. Life is worthwhile if you learn. Learn from your personal experiences and also l earn from other peoples experiences. Life is worthwhile if you try. You've got to take what you've learned and see if you can try your hand at it. Life is worthwhile if you stay. You don't have to stay forever, just until you s ee it through. Life is worthwhile if you care. If you care at all, you'll get some results. If you care enough, you can get magnificent results. Jim Rohn

"To attract attractive people, you must be attractive. To attract powerful peopl e, you must be powerful. To attract committed people, you must be committed. Ins tead of going to work on them, you go to work on yourself. If you become, you ca n attract." -- Jim Rohn Plan. Without a plan you will drift to and fro. You will certainly not carry out

your dream if you do not have a plan. So write it down. Set your goals. Know wh at you want and how you are going to get there. Beginning. This may sound simple and yet it is simply profound. Many people have a dream and they even have a plan, but they never begin. So simple: Just start. The first step on the long journey is still just one step. If you have a dream and a plan, take a step in the right direction. Persevere. Every road to every dream has a section or sections that is hard to t ravel. Every great dream will encounter difficulty. The question isn't whether o r not you will encounter trouble, but how you will respond to trouble. Will you quit when the going gets tough or will you persevere? I have found that every su ccessful person I know, myself included, has encountered problems along the way that tempted them to quit. Yet they persevered and achieved their dream. It is not what happens that determines the major part of your future. What happen s, happens to us all. It is what you do about what happens that counts. Jim Rohn What happened even as recently as yesterday is no longer of any ess we choose to allow it to be. What is of great importance is is that leaves its mark today, and each day thereafter. What we established and unchangeable fact. What we can yet become is an less opportunity. - Jim Rohn consequence, unl who and what it have been is an unlimited, bound

By our attitude, we decide to read or not to read. By our attitude, we decide to try or to give up. By our attitude, we blame ourselves for our failure or we bl ame others. Our attitude determines whether we tell the truth or lie, act or pro crastinate, advance or recede, and by our own attitude, we, and we alone, actual ly decide whether to succeed or fail. #3 favorite Jim Rohn quote posted by you last week (there was a tie for #3): "If you don't like how things are, change it! You're not a tree. You have the abili ty to totally transform every area in your life - and it all begins with your ve ry own power of choice." - Jim Rohn Where Do You Go for Your Intellectual Feast? by Jim Rohn Pity the man who has a favorite restaurant, but not a favorite author. He s picked out a favorite place to feed his body, but he doesn t have a favorite place to fe ed his mind! Why would this be? Have you heard about the accelerated learning curve? From bir th, up until the time we are about 18, our learning curve is dramatic, and our c apacity to learn during this period is just staggering. We learn a tremendous am ount very fast. We learn language, culture, history, science, mathematics... eve rything! For some people, the accelerated learning process will continue. But for most, i t levels off when they get their first job. If there are no more exams to take, if there s no demand to get out paper and pencil, why read any more books? Of cour se, you will learn some things through experience. Just getting out there sometime s doing it wrong and sometimes doing it right you will learn.

Can you imagine what would happen if you kept up an accelerated learning curve a ll the rest of your life? Can you imagine what you could learn to do, the skills you could develop, the capacities you could have? Here s what I m asking you to do: Be that unusual person who keeps up his learning curve and develops an appetite

for always trying to find good ideas. One way to feed your mind and educate your philosophy is through the writings of influential people. Maybe you can t meet the person, but you can read his or her books. Churchill is gone, but we still have his books. Aristotle is gone, but we still have his ideas. Search libraries for books and programs. Search magazines . Search documentaries. They are full of opportunities for intellectual feasting . In addition to reading and listening, you also need a chance to do some talking and sharing. I have some people in my life who help me with important life quest ions, who assist me in refining my own philosophy, weighing my values and ponder ing questions about success and lifestyle. We all need association with people of substance to provide influence concerning major issues such as society, money, enterprise, family, government, love, frie ndship, culture, taste, opportunity and community. Philosophy is mostly influenc ed by ideas, ideas are mostly influenced by education, and education is mostly i nfluenced by the people with whom we associate. Establishing Dreams and Goals by Jim Rohn One of the amazing things we have been given as humans is the unquenchable desir e to have dreams of a better life, and the ability to establish goals to live ou t those dreams. Think of it: We can look deep within our hearts and dream of a b etter situation for ourselves and our families; dream of better financial lives and better emotional or physical lives; certainly dream of better spiritual live s. But what makes this even more powerful is that we have also been given the ab ility to not only dream but to pursue those dreams and not only to pursue them, but the cognitive ability to actually lay out a plan and strategies (setting goa ls) to achieve those dreams. Powerful! What are your dreams and goals? This isn't what you already have or what you hav e done, but what you want. Have you ever really sat down and thought through you r life values and decided what you really want? Have you ever taken the time to truly reflect, to listen quietly to your heart, to see what dreams live within y ou? Your dreams are there. Everyone has them. They may live right on the surface , or they may be buried deep from years of others telling you they were foolish, but they are there.

So how do we know what our dreams are? This is an interesting process and it rel ates primarily to the art of listening. This is not listening to others; it is l istening to yourself. If we listen to others, we hear their plans and dreams (an d many will try to put their plans and dreams on us). If we listen to others, we can never be fulfilled. We will only chase elusive dreams that are not rooted d eep within us. No, we must listen to our own hearts. Let's take a look at some practical steps/thoughts on hearing from our hearts wh at our dreams are: Take time to be quiet. This is something that we don't do enough in this busy wo rld of ours. We rush, rush, rush, and we are constantly listening to noise all a round us. The human heart was meant for times of quiet, to peer deep within. It is when we do this that our hearts are set free to soar and take flight on the w ings of our own dreams! Schedule some quiet "dream time" this week. No other peo ple. No cell phone. No computer. Just you, a pad, a pen, and your thoughts. Think about what really thrills you. When you are quiet, think about those thing

s that really get your blood moving. What would you LOVE to do, either for fun o r for a living? What would you love to accomplish? What would you try if you wer e guaranteed to succeed? What big thoughts move your heart into a state of excit ement and joy? When you answer these questions you will feel great and you will be in the "dream zone." It is only when we get to this point that we experience what our dreams are! Write down all of your dreams as you have them. Don't think of any as too outlan dish or foolish remember, you're dreaming! Let the thoughts fly and take careful r ecord. Now, prioritize those dreams. Which are most important? Which are most feasible? Which would you love to do the most? Put them in the order in which you will ac tually try to attain them. Remember, we are always moving toward action, not jus t dreaming. Here is the big picture: Life is too short to not pursue your dreams. Someday yo ur life will near its end and all you will be able to do is look backward. You c an reflect with joy or regret. Those who dream, who set goals and act on them to live out their dreams, are those who live lives of joy and have a sense of peac e when they near the end of their lives. They have finished well, for themselves and for their families. Remember: These are the dreams and goals that are born out of your heart and min d. These are the goals that are unique to you and come from who you were created to be and gifted to become. Your specific goals are what you want to attain bec ause they are what will make your life joyful and bring your family's life into congruence with what you want it to be.

Vitamins for the Mind by Jim Rohn Enterprise Human beings have the remarkable ability to turn nothing into something. They ca n turn weeds into gardens and pennies into fortunes. Enterprise is better than ease. Showing a profit means touching something and leaving it better than you found i t. Enterprise is the hope of our future. Profits are better than wages. Wages make you a living; profits make you a fortu ne. We all know a variety of ways to make a living. What's even more fascinating is figuring out ways to make a fortune. "Americans are incredibly impatient. Someone once said that the shortest period of time in America is the time between when the light turns green and when you h ear the first horn honk. Jim Rohn Your Dream Begins Today by Les Brown What will your life be like when you ve achieved your most deeply held dreams? Let s take a look at how you can start living your dreams this very day. Do you have a dream, a vision of the life you wish to live? How specific is that dream? How clear is that vision? How do you intend to reach it? What obstacles stand in your way? Are your fears holding you back or are you using them to move you forward?

Your fears can actually lead you to success. Fear is an intense emotion. But tha t doesn t mean it has to control you, or even stop you. Fear can prepare you and p ush you forward just as strongly as it can hold you back. Fear heightens your aw areness and increases your physical strength. Fear brings your mind to sharp foc us. With all that going for you, does it make sense to just run and hide? Of cou rse not. Fear gets you in shape to take action! Are you waiting for things to get better before moving ahead? If you re serious ab out success, you need to start taking action today. If you re waiting for things t o be perfect, you ll wait forever and nothing will ever get done. The way to achieve is to bloom where you re planted, to do what you can, where you are, with what you have. It s easy to think up excuses for not taking action. If o nly I had more hours in the day. If only I had a better job. If only I could mee t the right person. But excuses won t bring you anything of value. You ve got to chan ge your if only into an I will. I will make better use of my time. I will work on imp roving my career. I will create and nurture my relationships. Take a chance. Have faith in yourself. Your circumstances will improve when you make the effort to improve them. Start where you are right now. You have everyth ing it takes to reach for whatever you desire. Stop wishing. Use your time, your energy, your thoughts and efforts to make it happen! You ll be glad you did!

"The twin killers of success are impatience and greed. Jim Rohn One of the great fortunes of my life was to be around Mr. Shoaff those five year s. During that time he shared with me at dinner, during airline flights, at busi ness conferences, in private conversations and in groups. He gave me many ideas that enabled me to make small daily adjustments in my philosophy and activities. Those daily changes, some very slight, but very important, soon added up to wei ghty sums. To solve any problem, there are three questions to ask yourself: First, what coul d I do? Second, what could I read? And third, whom could I ask? Jim Rohn

March 25, 2013 Keeping a Journal by Jim Rohn If you're serious about becoming a wealthy, powerful, sophisticated, healthy, in fluential, cultured and unique individual, keep a journal. Don't trust your memo ry. When you listen to something valuable, write it down. When you come across s omething important, write it down. I am a buyer of blank books. Kids find it interesting that I would buy a blank b ook. They say, Twenty-six dollars for a blank book! Why would you pay that? The re ason I pay twenty-six dollars is to challenge myself to find something worth twe nty-six dollars to put in there. All my journals are private, but if you ever go t a hold of one of them, you wouldn't have to look very far to discover it is wo rth more than twenty-six dollars. I must admit, if you got a glimpse of my journ als, you'd have to say that I am a serious student. I'm not just committed to my craft, I'm committed to life, committed to learning new concepts and skills. I want to see what I can do with seed, soil, sunshine and rain to turn them into t he building blocks of a productive life.

Keeping a journal is so important. I call it one of the three treasures to leave behind for the next generation. In fact, future generations will find these th ree treasures far more valuable than your furniture. The first treasure is your pictures. Take a lot of pictures. Don't be lazy in ca pturing the event. How long does it take to capture the event? A fraction of a s econd. How long does it take to miss the event? A fraction of a second. So don't miss the pictures. When you're gone, they'll keep the memories alive. The second treasure is your library. This is the library that taught you, that i nstructed you, that helped you defend your ideals. It helped you develop a philo sophy. It helped you become wealthy, powerful, healthy, sophisticated, and uniqu e. It may have helped you conquer some disease. It may have helped you conquer p overty. It may have caused you to walk away from the ghetto. Your library, the b ooks that instructed you, fed your mind and fed your soul, is one of the greates t gifts you can leave behind. The third treasure is your journals: the ideas that you picked up, the informati on that you meticulously gathered. But of the three, journal writing is one of t he greatest indications that you're a serious student. Taking pictures, that is pretty easy. Buying a book at a book store, that's pretty easy. It is a little m ore challenging to be a student of your own life, your own future, your own dest iny. Take the time to keep notes and to keep a journal. You'll be so glad you di d. What a treasure to leave behind when you go. What a treasure to enjoy today!

Vitamins for the Mind by Jim Rohn Government/Debate One of the great liberal documents of the world is the Declaration of Independen ce. One of the most conservative documents of the world is the Constitution of t he United States. We need both documents to build a country. One to get it start ed - liberal. And the other to help maintain the structure over the years - cons ervative. An ancient script says, Would you let a man rule the city who cannot even rule hi s own spirit? Sometimes we do. Taxes are our way of feeding the goose that lays the golden eggs of freedom, dem ocracy and enterprise. Someone says, Well, the goose eats too much. That's probabl y true. But better a fat goose than no goose at all! Tyranny knows no restraint of appetite. Did you ever eat a government cookie? The real genius to make a marketplace flou rish does not come from the government; it comes from the genius of the people. Trusting Your Intuitive Instincts by John C. Maxwell There is a certain element of risk in intuitive leadership, but that is the very nature of leadership. Andr Gide said, One doesn't discover new lands without cons enting to lose sight of the shore for a very long time. A neglect of cultivating intuition results from doing what is safe and secure. I can't think of very many things of value that are won by staying safe and secure. While leaning on your intuition is a leadership advantage, it can also be a weak ness. You'll gain the trust of others when your intuitions lead to good decisio ns. And you'll forfeit trust when you fail because you continually ignore the wi se advice of those around you. Robert Heller said, Never ignore a great feeling, but never believe that it's enough. Great leaders learn to trust the intuition of their confidantes as well.

Here are some steps I've developed for tapping into my intuitive instincts: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Write down the issue at hand. Identify as many options as possible. Pull away from the process and pray. Start playing out consequences of your options, eliminating them one by one. Bounce a couple of your top options off of wise people both inside and outsid

e your organization. 6. Do a heart check. This involves looking at: - My motive: Why am I doing this? - My responsibility: Should I be doing this? - My emotional status: Can I feel right about doing this? 7. Make a decision. 8. Hold to that decision.

Take time to gather up the past so that you will be able to draw from your experi ences and invest them in the future. Jim Rohn

The Great Leadership Challenge by Jim Rohn If you want to be a leader who attracts quality people, the key is to become a p erson of quality yourself. Leadership is the ability to attract someone to the g ifts, skills, and opportunities you offer as an owner, as a manager, as a parent . What's important in leadership is refining your skills. All great leaders keep working on themselves until they become effective. Here are some specifics: Learn to be strong but not impolite. It is an extra step you must take to become a powerful, capable leader with a wide range of reach. Some people mistake rude ness for strength. It's not even a good substitute. Next, learn to be kind but not weak. We must not mistake weakness for kindness. Kindness isn't weak. Kindness is a certain type of strength. We must be kind eno ugh to tell someone the truth. We must be kind enough and considerate enough to lay it on the line. We must be kind enough to tell it like it is and not deal in delusion.

Next, learn to be bold but not a bully. It takes boldness to win the day. To bui ld your influence, you've got to walk in front of your group. You've got to be w illing to take the first arrow, tackle the first problem, discover the first sig n of trouble. Like the farmer, if you want any rewards at harvest time, you have got to be bold and face the weeds and the rain and the bugs straight on. You've got to seize the moment. Here's the next step. You've got to learn to be humble but not timid. You can't get to the high life by being timid. Some people mistake timidity for humility. But humility is a virtue; timidity is a disease. It's an affliction. It can be c ured, but it is a problem. Humility is almost a God-like word. A sense of awe. A sense of wonder. An awareness of the human soul and spirit. An understanding th at there is something unique about the human drama versus the rest of life. Humi lity is a grasp of the distance between us and the stars, yet having the feeling that we're part of the stars. Here's a good tip: Learn to be proud but not arrogant. It takes pride to build y our ambitions. It takes pride in your community. It takes pride in a cause, in a ccomplishment. But the key to becoming a good leader is to be proud without bein g arrogant. Do you know the worst kind of arrogance? Arrogance from ignorance. I

t's intolerable. If someone is smart and arrogant, we can tolerate that. But if someone is ignorant and arrogant, that's just too much to take. The next step is learning to develop humor without folly. In leadership, we lear n that it's okay to be witty but not silly; fun but not foolish. Next, deal in realities. Deal in truth. Save yourself the agony of delusion. Jus t accept life as it is. Life is unique. The whole drama of life is unique. It's fascinating. Life is unique. Leadership is unique. The skills that work well for one leader may not work at all for another. However, the fundamental skills of leadership can be adopted to work

A big part of the lesson was having Mr. Shoaff repeat the ideas over and over. Y ou just can t hear the fundamentals of life philosophy too often. They are the gre atest form of nutrition, the building blocks for a well-developed mind. I m asking that you feed your mind just as you do your body. Feed it with good ide as, wherever they can be found. Always be on the lookout for a good idea a busines s idea, a product idea, a service idea, an idea for personal improvement. Every new idea will help to refine your philosophy. Your philosophy will guide your li fe, and your life will unfold with distinction and pleasure. "It doesn't matter which side of the fence you get off on sometimes. What matter s most is getting off! You cannot make progress without making decisions." -- Ji m Rohn "After you become a millionaire, you can give all of your money away because wha t's important is not the million dollars; what's important is the person you hav e become in the process of becoming a millionaire." -- Jim Rohn "Start from wherever you are and with whatever you've got." -- Jim Rohn Success is nothing more than a few simple disciplines practiced every day; while failure is simply a few errors in judgment repeated every day. It is the accumul ative weight of our disciplines and our judgments that leads us to either fortun e or failure. To attract powerful people , you must be powerful. To attract committed people, you must be committed. Inst ead of going to work on them, you go to work on yourself. If you become, you can attract." -- Jim Rohn If you were to take the lessons and experiences you've acquired in the past one year, five years or 10 years and skillfully invest that into your future, how po werful would that be? Where would you find yourself at the end of the next year? " - Jim Rohn Before you are tempted to give up or get discouraged, remember all success is ba sed on long term commitment, faith, discipline, attitude and a few stepping ston es along the way. Happiness is so mething you design." -- Jim Rohn "Don't set your goals too low. If I would, I could. If I will, I can. Jim Rohn An immediate reward for lack of discipline is a fun day at the beach. A future r eward of discipline is owning the beach. Unfortunately, most of us would choose today s pleasure over tomorrow s fortune. Jim Rohn

The keys to discipline Jim Rohn

Start with the little things and work up to the big ones.

I ve discovered that you can t change people. They can change themselves. Good peopl e are found, not changed. If you want good people, you have to find them. Jim Rohn I will discipline myself to achieve my goals so in the years ahead I can celebra te my successes. Jim Rohn It s not what happens in the world that determines the major part of your future. What happens, happens to us all. The key is what you do about it. Jim Rohn Happiness doesn t come from big pieces of great success but from small, daily achi evements. What Mr (Benjamin) Franklin is saying is that we must be happy with wh at we ve got when we re in pursuit of what we really want. Abraham Lincoln said it b est. He said, You ll be as happy as you make up your mind to be. Jim Rohn If you don t like your present address, change it Jim Rohn you re not a tree!

It means that big achievements come one small step at a time. It means that you ve got to enjoy the journey. It means that you must enjoy and take pride in your l ittle accomplishments. It means celebrating who you are becoming in pursuit of y our larger goal. And it mean s doing so everyday. Jim Rohn Discipline is the requirement for progress. Jim Rohn

Set compelling goals. Jim Rohn Ambitious people know that everything they do and every discipline they adhere t o form the links in the chain of events that will lead them to their final desti nation. Jim Rohn The best money spent is the money spent to cultivate the genius of your own mind and spirit. Jim Rohn Hear or read something challenging, something instructional, at least thirty min utes a day, everyday. You can get along without some meals, but you can t get alon g without some ideas, examples and inspiration. Jim Rohn When you live a very public life, you treasure solitude. Jim Rohn Effective brainstorming can only happen if you disassociate from your ego. Jim Rohn It is easy to get up in the morning when you awaken anxious to make progress tow

ards your dreams. When you re excited about life, you ll wake up long before your al arm clock goes off. Jim Rohn In my mind s eye I could picture him over the coming years, working long hours, me eting deadlines, overcoming obstacles, doing everything it takes to be successfu l and doing it gladly! Jim Rohn Happiness is not in the getting. Happiness is in the becoming. Happiness is a un iversal quest. Happiness is a joy that comes as a result of positive activity. I t has a wide variety of meanings, a wide variety of interpretations. Happiness i s both the joy of discovery and the joy of knowing. It s the joy that comes from d esigning a life that practices the fine art of living well. Happiness is being a ble to explore all that life offers. Happiness is quite often found in having op tions options of doing what you want to, instead of doing what you have to. The option of living where you want to, instead of living where you have to. The opt ion of looking like you want to, instead of settling for what you have to look l ike. Jim Rohn Happiness is receiving and sharing, reaping and bestowing. Happiness is found in taking the time to enjoy what you re accomplished: enjoying the plateau, giving y ourself credit when credit is due, patting yourself on the back for a job well d one. Happiness is the here and now. Happiness isn t the end result. Happiness is p art of the journey. Jim Rohn

The road to heaven, is heaven. Jim Rohn If you share a good idea often enough, it will fall on good people. Jim Rohn My definition of financial independence: it s the ability to live solely from the income of your own personal resources. Jim Rohn He said Mr Rohn, the key to happiness is not more. Happiness is an art to be stu died and practiced. More money will only make you more of what you already are a nd send you more quickly to your destination. If you are inclined to be unhappy, you will be absolutely miserable if you get a lot of money. If you are inclined to be mean, you will be a terror if you get a lot of money. If you are inclined to drink a little too much, you will be a drunk when you get a lot of money. Mo re money will only make you more. But the good news is that more money will ampl ify your happiness if you are inclined to be happy. Jim Rohn Success is like an ocean it s not in short supply. The problem is, some people go to the ocean with a teaspoon. Jim Rohn You can cut a tree down with a hammer, but it takes about thirty days. If you tr ade the hammer for an axe, you can cut the tree down in about thirty minutes. Th e difference between the thirty minutes and thirty days is the tool. Jim Rohn

Words are bread for the head . Jim Rohn The only way life gets better for you is when you get better. Better is not some thing you wish for; better is something you become. Jim Rohn How ter is Jim will my life change? The answer is: when you change. The only way it get s bet for you is when you get better. Better is not something you wish for; better something you become. Rohn

Things aren t going to change until I change. Jim Rohn

You can t change the circumstances or the seasons or the wind. But you can change your reading habits. Jim Rohn You ve got to be self-reliant. Jim Rohn The essence of life is growth. It is doing the best you possibly can. Jim Rohn When you re focussing on growth, it s easy to do all you can. It s easy to succeed. It s easy to have financial freedom. The more you do, the more you get. Jim Rohn A strong individual is not a rigid individual. In fact exactly the opposite is t rue. Strength comes from flexibility. The ability to adapt. Jim Rohn Being self-enterprising means feeling good enough about yourself, having a great enough self-worth, to want to seek opportunities that will make a difference in the future. Jim Rohn I ve decided that enterprise is better than ease. Jim Rohn Ant Philosophy Jim Rohn Ants never quit.

Enterprising people will always find a way to take advantage of a situation, not be burdened by it. And enterprising people aren t lazy. They don t wait for opportu nities to come to them, they go after the opportunities. Enterprise means always finding a way to keep yourself actively working toward your ambition. Jim Rohn Once you start understanding how valuable you are, you will have many new experi ences. That s why the understanding of self-worth plays a major role in our abilit y to be enterprising. Our self-worth makes the difference being lazy and being a ctive. If we don t feel good about ourselves, we won t feel good about our lives. An d if we don t feel good about ourselves, we won t feel good about our lives. And if we don t feel good about our lives, we won t be very interested in looking for oppor tunities. Jim Rohn

Being enterprising also means feeling good enough about yourself, having enough self-worth to want to seek advantages and opportunities that will make a differe nce in your future. Jim Rohn Anything is possible in those twenty-four hours we re given each day. Jim Rohn You build character by how you respond to what happens in your life, whether it s winning every game or losing every game or getting rich or dealing with hard tim es. Jim Rohn Just before the Normandy Invasion in 1944, Eisenhower met with a group of office rs who would be going into battle. He stretched out a piece of string on a table and pulled it a few inches with his finger. An army is like this piece of string . He said. If you try to push it from behind, it just tangles and doubles back on itself. Soldiers have to be led from the front, not pushed from behind. Jim Rohn If you sow, you will reap. Jim Rohn There is nothing to fear, except fear itself. Jim Rohn When people asked Socrates, What is wisdom? he always gave the same answer: I don t k now . In fact, Socrates never claimed to know much of anything except how to ask q uestions. And by asking questions, he would prove to other people that they didn t know what they thought they knew. Jim Rohn A patient man is always richer than an impatient one, even if the patient man ha s less money. Why? The patient man can always afford to wait. The patient man is never desperate. The patient man has time to spare. While the man in a hurry is always on the verge of bankruptcy as far as time is concerned. Jim Rohn Making the most of your life is unusual. That s why you need to develop some unusu al habits to earn outstanding rewards. Jim Rohn Each person s personal philosophy is like the set of a sail. If you want to trim a better sail, you don t need a better economy. You know you can t change the seasons ; you ve got to take them as they come. What can you change to make your life work better? You must start with your philosophy. Once I got rid of all my old excus es and started examining the real problem my personal philosophy my life explode d into change. My bank account changed immediately. My income changed immediatel y. My whole life instantly took on a new look. The early results from making the se philosophical changes felt so good that I never stopped the process from that day forward. Jim Rohn

There is only one way to make time work for you, not against you: patience. Jim Rohn In any situation you can think of, impatience is a source of weakness and fear, while patience represents substance and strength. Jim Rohn The nearsighted person sees only the present; the fantasizer sees only an imagin ary future and, more likely than not trips over his mistakes trying to get there . Patience enables you to see the big picture. It helps you to make the most of today while building a better tomorrow. Jim Rohn Patience and endurance. Jim Rohn A big part of the lesson was having Mr Shoaff repeat the ideas over and over. Yo u just can t hear the fundamentals of life philosophy too often. Jim Rohn If you re full of ideas, pour them out. As you do, I promise more will be poured i n. Jim Rohn If you want something badly enough, you have to pay for it. Why? Because of the kind of person paying for it will make of you. Jim Rohn One is a great idea person, the other a great detail person. They work together, or it wouldn t work at all. Jim Rohn Too much is too much. That s why you need to exercise brevity when it comes to log ic and reason. Jim Rohn He said, Mr Rohn, if you truly wish to be successful, you ve got to associate with the right people. Jim Rohn

Let other people lead small lives. You are destined for something better. Jim Rohn Everyone has to get good at one of two things: planting in the spring or begging in the fall. Jim Rohn There s no failure in pouring your heart and soul and energy into something that d oesn t work. Rather, failure is not trying at all. Jim Rohn The day that turns your life around. Disgust; Decision; Desire; Resolve. Jim Rohn

Resolve means promising yourself you ll never give up. Jim Rohn Promise yourself you ll read the books until your skills change; you ll go to semina rs until you get a handle on what they re teaching; you ll practice until you develo p the skills. Never give up until you ve gotten what you want. Don t miss the chance to grow. Resolve that you ll pay the price until you learn, change, grow, and bec ome what you want to be. You ll discover some of life s best treasures when you pay that price. Jim Rohn Don t wish it were easier, wish you were better. Don t wish for fewer problems, wish for more skills. Don t wish for less challenges, wish for more wisdom. Jim Rohn There are several studies that show the greatest achievers aren t those who fail t he least. The greatest achievers are those least frightened of failure. They re wi lling to take on the challenge without the guarantee of success. They have the d esired end in sight, but they re not sure when it will be or where it will be. Jim Rohn You ve got to keep trying and trying and trying. You ve got to have enough resolve t o do it until you succeed. Jim Rohn Fears, even the most basic ones, can totally destroy our ambitions. Fears can de stroy fortunes. Fear can destroy relationships. Fear, if left unchecked, can des troy lives. Fear is one of the many enemies lurking inside of us. Jim Rohn

The enemies inside us: Indifference, Indecision, Doubt, Worry, and Over-caution. Jim Rohn Indecision is the thief of opportunity and enterprise. Jim Rohn Perseverance means you never quit. Jim Rohn The things that are easy to do are also easy not to do. That s the difference betw een success and failure, between daydreams and ambitions. Jim Rohn Dreams are a projection of the kind of life you want to lead. When you allow you r dreams to pull you forward, they unleash a creative force that can overpower e verything in your way. Jim Rohn Success is defining a goal and having the resolve to complete it, no matter what . Jim Rohn You see, you can t change what s going on around you without first changing what s goi ng on within you. Jim Rohn You don t want to waste your time on things that aren t going to matter.

Jim Rohn Formula for failure: errors in judgement repeated every day. Jim Rohn Get in the habit of doing it! Do all it takes and before you know it, success wi ll be yours for the having. Jim Rohn You have the power to make all your dreams come true. Jim Rohn Dreams are a projection of the kind of life you want to lead. Dreams can drive y ou. Dreams can make you skip over obstacles. When you allow your dreams to pull you, they unleash a creative force that can overpower any obstacle in your path. To unleash this power, though, your dreams must be well-defined. Jim Rohn Their dreams were stronger than the obstacles in their way. Jim Rohn You ve got to be willing to put yourself through the paces of doing the uncomforta ble until it becomes comfortable. Because that s how you realise your dreams. Jim Rohn They have a dream. And so should you. Your success depends on it. Jim Rohn If you empty a pitcher of coke into a glass, how much can it hold? Only what the glass can hold. Jim Rohn The philosophy of the rich versus the poor is this: The rich invest their money and spend what is left; the poor spend their money and invest what is left. Jim Rohn I used to say, "Things cost too much." Then my teacher straightened me out on th at by saying, "The problem isn't that things cost too much. The problem is that you can't afford it." That's when I finally understood that the problem wasn't " it" - the problem was "me!" Jim Rohn We all know a variety of ways to make a living. What's even more fascinating is figuring out ways to make a fortune. Jim Rohn The Bible says that it is hard for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of heave n. It doesn't say that it is impossible! Jim Rohn

To become financially independent you must turn part of your income into capital ; turn capital into enterprise; turn enterprise into profit; turn profit into in vestment; and turn investment into financial independence. Jim Rohn Part of your heritage in this society is the opportunity to become financially i ndependent.

Jim Rohn If you depend on your company to take care of your retirement, your future incom e will be divided by five. Take care of it yourself, and you can multiply your f uture income by five. Jim Rohn I remember saying to my mentor, "If I had more money, I would have a better plan ." He quickly responded, "I would suggest that if you had a better plan, you wou ld have more money." You see, it's not the amount that counts; it's the plan tha t counts. Jim Rohn If you were to show me your current financial plan, would I get so excited by it that I would go across the country and lecture on it? If the answer is no, then here's my question: Why not? Why wouldn't you have a superior financial plan th at is taking you to the places you want to go? Jim Rohn Shortly after I met my mentor he asked me," Mr. Rohn, how much money have you sa ved and invested over the last six years?" And I said, "None." He then asked, 'W ho sold you on that plan?" Jim Rohn It is better to be a lender than a spender. Jim Rohn We can have more than we've got because we can become more than we are. Jim Rohn The big challenge is to become all that you have the possibility of becoming. Yo u cannot believe what it does to the human spirit to maximize your human potenti al and stretch yourself to the limit. Jim Rohn Pity the man who inherits a million dollars and who isn't a millionaire. Here's what would be pitiful: If your income grew and you didn't. Jim Rohn Success is Easy, But So is Neglect by Jim Rohn People often ask me how I became successful in that six-year period of time whil e many of the people I knew did not.

It is not the lack of opp ortunity - America, and much of the free World, continues to offer the most unpr ecedented and abundant opportunities in the last six thousand years of recorded history. It is not the lack of books libraries are full of books and they are fr ee! It is not the schools the classrooms are full of good teachers. We have plen ty of ministers, leaders, counselors and advisors. So my suggestion is that when giving the choice of "easy to" and "easy not to" t hat you do not neglect to do the simple, basic, "easy"; but potentially life-cha nging activities and disciplines. Vitamins for the Mind by Jim Rohn Lessons of a Lifetime Success is not something you pursue. What you pursue will elude you. It can be li ke trying to chase butterflies. Success is something you attract and accumulate by the person you become. "If you could do better, should you? It s not a bad question to ask. If I could do better, should I? If I could read more, should I read more? If I could try more should I try more? If I could expand my business and help more people, make my enterprise more successful, should I do that? And there s always the contest of ho w far to go and how much to do .If you ve got one little successful business going, should you double it? Should you triple it? Do not let expansion absorb all of y our time or take away time that you should be devoting to in your life: your bus iness and your friendships and your family. It is a never ending challenge: prio rities and reordering priorities in your life." "Be faithful when the amounts are small. If you wish to preside over riches, you must start when the amounts are small." "Life is worthwhile if you try. Try to make a difference, try to make some progr ess, try to learn a new skill, try to learn a new sport. It's worthwhile if you try. Doesn t mean you can do everything, but there's a lot of things you could do if you just try." The above quotes are taken from Jim Rohn s newest product, Lessons of a Lifetime. This one-of-a-kind CD program takes a curated selection of one-on-one interviews and seminars from Jim Rohn to create a remarkable conversation between Jim and SUCCESS Publisher Darren Hardy. "You must constantly ask yourself these questions: Who am I around? What are the y doing to me? What have they got me reading? What have they got me saying? Whe re do they have me going? What do they have me thinking? And most important, wha t do they have me becoming? Then ask yourself the big question: Is that okay? Jim Rohn Seeking Out Quality People by Les Brown It is important to align yourself with what I call OQP, Only Quality People. You should endeavor to surround yourself only with people who will enrich and empow er you, people who will enable you to transcend yourself and to grow. This sort of support group, your pit crew for progress in your life, can strengthen you in moments of weakness and bring you up when you are down.

Surround yourself with people who share your vision and who also are willing to support you in pursuing that vision. You cannot make it alone in this journey. I f you find relationships that are not mutually constructive, if someone brings y ou down rather than challenges and elevates you, then you must make a decision. Can you transform this into a healthy relationship or do you need to sever it? That does not mean of course that all of the people s-men. You will never grow if you are surrounded by hough I hate being criticized by friends, I do have are people who tell me the things I need to hear. I t their vision of me. They challenge me and make me ctually, personally and spiritually. around you should be your ye backslapping sycophants. Alt some trusted critics. These trust their judgment, I trus stretch mentally and intelle

I get feedback from them that I would not get anywhere else and even though it d oesn't always feel good to hear their criticisms and challenges, I know they car e about me and about my growth. So I listen and learn. We all need someone to coach us now and then. We cannot grow in a vacuum. We hav e to be willing to seek out those with wisdom and say, "I don't know what to do; help me." The fighter and philosopher, "Smokin' Joe" Frazier, said, "All of us are like the blind man at some point in our lives, standing on the corner, waiti ng for someone to lead us across." You are not joined at the hip with your friends. Be prepared to acknowledge when a relationship has soured and to go your separate way. It does not have to be a n angry parting. Just say, "Look here, we are growing in different directions. O ur values have changed. Our goals and objectives are different now. Maybe we nee d to shake hands and say good-bye." Being able to break away from toxic friendships can make the difference between living your dreams or living a nightmare.

"We must learn to apply all that we know so that we can attract all that we want . Jim Rohn

To attract attractive people, you must be attractive. To attract powerful people , you must be powerful. To attract committed people, you must be committed. Inst ead of going to work on them, you go to work on yourself. If you become, you can attract. Jim Rohn The most important question to ask on the job is not "What am I getting?" The mo st important question to ask on the job is "What am I becoming?" Jim Rohn It is hard to keep that which has not been obtained through personal development . Jim Rohn After you become a millionaire, you can give all of your money away because what 's important is not the million dollars; what s important is the person you have b ecome in the process of becoming a millionaire. Jim Rohn The key factor that will determine your financial future is not the economy; the key factor is your philosophy. Jim Rohn Don't borrow someone else's plan. Develop your own philosophy and it will lead y ou to unique places. Jim Rohn If you learn to set a good sail, the wind that blows will always take you to the dreams you want, the income you want, and the treasures of mind, purse, and sou l you want. Jim Rohn Your philosophy determines whether you will go for the disciplines or continue t he errors. Jim Rohn Philosophy is the sum total of all that you know and what you decide is valuable . Jim Rohn Economic disaster begins with a philosophy of doing less and wanting more. Jim Rohn

If you want to amend your errors, you must begin by amending your philosophy. Jim Rohn The only thing worse than not reading a book in the last ninety days is not read ing a book in the last ninety days and think that it doesn't matter. Jim Rohn Your personal philosophy is the greatest determining factor in how your life wor ks out. Jim Rohn Initial response illustrates a great deal about someone's personal philosophy. Jim Rohn

Only human beings can reorder their lives any day they choose by refining their philosophy. Jim Rohn Don't become a victim of yourself. Forget about the thief waiting in the alley; what about the thief in your mind? Jim Rohn It is not what happens that determines the major part of your future. What happe ns, happens to us all. It is what you do about what happens that counts. Jim Rohn You say, "The country is messed up." That's like cursing the soil and the seed a nd the sunshine and the rain, which is all you've got. Don't curse all you've go t. When you get your own planet, you can rearrange this whole deal. This one you 've got to take like it comes. Jim Rohn Walk away from the 97% crowd. Don't use their excuses. Take charge of your own l ife. Jim Rohn Take advice, but not orders. Only give yourself orders. Abraham Lincoln once sai d, "Since I will be no one's slave, I will be no one's master." Jim Rohn Don't wish it was easier; wish you were better. Don't wish for less problems; wi sh for more skills. Don't wish for less challenges; wish for more wisdom. Jim Rohn You must either modify your dreams or magnify your skills. Jim Rohn You can cut down a tree with a hammer, but it takes about 30 days. If you trade the hammer for an axe, you can cut it down in about 30 minutes. The difference b etween 30 days and 30 minutes is skill. Jim Rohn The key to life is to become skillful enough to be able to do rewarding things. Jim Rohn Learn to hide your need and show your skill. Jim Rohn Most people are just trying to get through the day. Sophisticated people learn h ow to get from the day. Jim Rohn Sophistication is understanding the difference between trinkets and treasures. Jim Rohn Don't spend major money on minor things. In the last ten years the guy has bough t two tons of donuts and only two books - and the books are filled primarily wit h pictures. Jim Rohn Sophisticated people don't leave early. The man says, "Yeah, but I want to beat the traffic." Isn't that a great skill to have - beating the traffic! Jim Rohn

It doesn't take a million dollars to learn the difference between a bottle of fi ne wine and a Pepsi. Sophistication is a study, not an amount. Jim Rohn

One of the early signs of sophistication is not giving way to all inclinations b ut rather sending your emotions to school so they will learn how to behave. Jim Rohn Money doesn't make you sophisticated. Only study and practice make you sophistic ated. Even people of modest means can become sophisticated because it is within study and practice. How much is a night out at the symphony? About thirty dollar s. You say, "Poor people can't afford thirty dollars to go to the symphony." Yes , they can. It's only thirty Hershey bars! Jim Rohn We must teach our children not to spend their money a dollar at a time. If you s pend your money a dollar at a time, you'll wind up with trinkets instead of trea sures. You can't buy much of value a dollar at a time. Jim Rohn You must get good at one of two things: sowing in the spring or begging in the f all. Jim Rohn God has the tough end of the deal. What if instead of planting the seed you had to make the tree? That would keep you up late at night, trying to figure that on e out. Jim Rohn Plant, don't chant. Jim Rohn One of my good friends always says, "Things don't just happen; things happen jus t." Jim Rohn The soil says, "Don't bring me your need, bring me your seed." Jim Rohn How much should you earn? As much as you possibly can. It doesn't matter whether you earn $10,000 a year or $1,000,000 a year as long as you've done the best yo u can. Jim Rohn The man says, "If I had a fortune, Td take good care of it. But I only have a pa ycheck and I don't know where it all goes." Wouldn't you love to have him runnin g your company? Jim Rohn

If you wish to have power and influence over the many, be faithful (disciplined) when there is just a few. If you have a few employees, a few distributors, a fe w people, that's the time to stay in touch and be totally absorbed - when there is just a few. Jim Rohn

Start from wherever you are and with whatever you've got. Jim Rohn Be a student of the fine, not just the mundane and the ordinary that sustains ou r lives. We all need to be students of refinement, not just existence. Jim Rohn Always be eager to learn, no matter how successful you might already be. In the Millionaires' Club, we sometimes invite a billionaire to come talk to us. He say s, "You're doing okay, but come on. How about if you really poured it on!" Jim Rohn Be a student, not a follower. Don't just go do what someone says. Take interest in what someone says, then debate it, ponder it, and consider it from all angles . Jim Rohn Don't read a book and be a follower; read a book and be a student. Jim Rohn Success is not so much what we have as it is what we are. Jim Rohn Success is 20% skills and 80% strategy. Jim Rohn Success lies in the opposite direction of the normal pull. Jim Rohn Success is the study of the obvious. Everyone should take Obvious 1 and Obvious 2 in school. Jim Rohn

Average people look for ways of getting away with it; successful people look for ways of getting on with it. Jim Rohn Time is our most valuable asset, yet we tend to waste it, kill it, and spend it rather than invest it. Jim Rohn We can no more afford to spend major time on minor things than we can to spend m inor time on major things. Jim Rohn Time is more valuable than money. You can get more money, but you cannot get mor e time. Jim Rohn Never begin the day until it is finished on paper. Jim Rohn Learn how to say no. Don't let your mouth overload your back. Jim Rohn Time is the best kept secret of the rich. Jim Rohn

Something will master and something will serve. Either you run the day or the da y runs you; either you run the business or the business runs you. Jim Rohn Learn how to separate the majors and the minors. A lot of people don't do well s imply because they major in minor things. Jim Rohn Don't mistake movement for achievement. It's easy to get faked out by being busy . The question is: Busy doing what? Jim Rohn Days are expensive. When you spend a day, you have one less day to spend. So mak e sure you spend each one wisely. Jim Rohn Sometimes you need to stay in touch but be out of reach. Jim Rohn Very few of us are authorities on the truth. About the closest that any of us ca n get is what we hope is the truth or what we think is the truth. That's why the best approach to truth is probably to say, "It seems to me..." Jim Rohn There is nothing wrong with affirmations, provided what you are affirming is the truth. If you are broke, for example, the best thing to affirm is, 'I m broke!" Jim Rohn If the truth 'isn't enough, then you must become stronger at presenting it. Jim Rohn Sincerity is not a test of truth. We must not make this mistake: He must be righ t; he's so sincere. It is possible to be sincerely wrong. We can only judge trut h by truth and sincerity by sincerity. Jim Rohn Find someone who is willing to share the truth with you. Jim Rohn Count the cost first. Don't pay too big a price for pursuing minor values. Jim Rohn The major value in life is not what you get. The major value in life is what you become. That is why I wish to pay fair price for every value. If I have to pay for it or earn it, that makes something of me. If I get it for free, that makes nothing of me. Jim Rohn All values must be won by contest, and after they have been won, they must be de fended. Jim Rohn

Don't sell out your virtue and your value for something you think you want. Juda s got the money, but he threw it all away and hung himself because he was so unh appy with himself. Jim Rohn

Values were meant to be costly. If it doesn't cost much, we probably wouldn't ap preciate the value. Jim Rohn The two great words of antiquity are behold and beware. Jim Rohn Vocabulary enables us to interpret and to express. If you have a limited vocabul ary, you will also have a limited vision and a limited future. Jim Rohn Well chosen words mixed with measured emotions is the basis of affecting people. Jim Rohn It's okay to send flowers, but don't let flowers do all the talking. Flowers hav e a limited vocabulary. About the best flowers can say is that you remembered. Jim Rohn Words do two major things: They provide food for the mind and create light for u nderstanding and awareness. Jim Rohn All of us, whether rich or poor, young or old, educated or not so educated, are the sum total of all of those people and events that have touched us since first entering this world. Every thought we ve entertained has had its effect upon what we now are. Jim Rohn What we are and what we have, we have slowly brought upon ourselves. Jim Rohn What is of great importance is who and what it is that leaves its mark today, an d each day thereafter. What we have been is an established and unchangeable fact . What we can yet become is an unlimited, boundless opportunity. Jim Rohn

It is essential that each of us find what we were meant to do if true happiness is to be found. Jim Rohn We tend to accumulate and cling to ideas that limit our progress. Jim Rohn Eating alone if better than mingling with those who conversation is negative. Jim Rohn The improvement of our personal circumstances means that we must learn to do wha t the failures are simply not willing to do. Jim Rohn A major challenge in life is for each person to learn the art of standing guard at the doorway of their mind. Carefully examine the credentials and authority of those seeking to enter within that place where your attitudes are formed. Jim Rohn A sour face does not come as an accident. It is the result of sour thoughts.

Jim Rohn The only limitation placed on our abilities is our inability to easily recognise our unlimited nature. It takes effort to become aware of our staggering and lim itless abilities. Jim Rohn By our own attitude we and we alone actually decide whether to succeed or fail. Jim Rohn Attitude determines choice, and choice determines results. Jim Rohn Springtime will not admonish you to plant, nor will it warn of the consequences of not planting. Jim Rohn

Exercise the discipline to plant in spite of the rocks, weeds or other obstacles before us. The rocks, weeds, and thorns of the world cannot destroy all your se eds if you plant massively enough and intelligently enough. Jim Rohn The pain of discipline weighs ounces, and the pain of regret tons. Jim Rohn We must either plant during the springtime of life, or beg from others during th e fall. Jim Rohn The price, or effort of thinking thoughts of love, prosperity, or self-confidenc e is no greater than the price given to thoughts of hate, poverty, or self-doubt . Only the rewards are different. Jim Rohn To neglect the opportunity given to us this day is to delay our better future. Jim Rohn Progress in any form and happiness or success in any form requires constant effo rt, for obstacles exist that might discourage the weak and the undeserving. Jim Rohn Life is designed to be a story of achievement in spite of adversity, not in the absence of adversity, for without adversity achievement could not exist. Jim Rohn Smile at adversity, and act quickly to eliminate it. Expect adversity, for it sh all surely appear. Be grateful for adversity, for it forces the human spirit to grow for surely, the human character is formed not in the absence of difficulty but in our response to difficulty. Jim Rohn All things, even adversity, have their worthy purpose. Jim Rohn The harvest which is our life as we now live it, is the result of seeds planted at an earlier time. Some of the seeds we planted ourselves, through unbreakable habits. Jim Rohn

Invest your time in worthy projects; invest your thoughts toward a worthy purpos e; invest your talents toward a worthy occupation; invest your affection toward a worthy recipient; and finally, reserve your greatest respect for yourself, for it is that image what you perceive yourself to be that determines the quality o f life. Jim Rohn Do not doubt yourself, for where doubt resides, confidence cannot. Do not neglec t yourself, for with neglect comes loss. Do not imagine yourself to be less than you are, nor more than you are, but seek always to become all of which you are capable. Do not allow yourself to become arrogant or discourteous, for both are characteristics adopted by those who seek to cover their weaknesses. Do not spen d time regretting the past, but invest that time wisely by preparing a better fu ture. Jim Rohn You are deserving Jim Rohn you are becoming and you shall succeed.

The fall tells us if we have really done that which is required, or if we have f ooled ourselves through the temporary aesthetic of conversation and pretense of telling ourselves we ve worked when we haven t. Jim Rohn As you sow, so shall you reap. Jim Rohn Those who do not possess will always scorn the possessor. Jim Rohn Those who condemn the successful man or woman for their apparent good fortune or dishonesty are unaware of the price often paid for success. They cannot see the massive disappointments, the shattered hope, or the broken dreams. They do not understand the risks incurred in both raising and investing capital for an idea yet unproven. Jim Rohn The arrival of winter finds us in one of two categories: Either we are prepared or we are unprepared. Jim Rohn We are meant to constantly improve our conditions, ourselves, and our results. W e either improve, or we regress, for never do we remain the same. Jim Rohn To those who are unprepared, the arrival of winter is a time for regret and a ti me for sorrow. Having lacked the willingness to pay the pain of earlier discipli ne, we now pay the heavier pain of regret. Jim Rohn

Jim Rohn Don't let the learning from your own experiences take too long. If you have been doing it wrong for the last ten years, I would suggest that's long enough! Jim Rohn Life is not just the passing of time. Life is the collection of experiences and their intensity. Jim Rohn It's easy to carry the past as a burden instead of a school. It's easy to let it overwhelm you instead of educate you. Jim Rohn Be like a sponge when it comes to each new experience. December 24, 2012 Profits Are Better Than Wages by Jim Rohn My mentor, when I was 25 years old, dropped a phrase on me that changed my life forever when he said, Profits are better than wages. Wages will make you a living . Profits can make you a fortune.

You know it is a bit difficult to get rich on wages, but anybody can get rich on profits. Profits change your whole attitude, even if you start part time whether it s part time on your entrepreneurial business, network marketing company or serv ice business. It can be a landscape business in the summer or hanging Christmas lights in the winter. It can be training, consulting or tutoring. It can be your hobby, such a s painting, writing, crafts, woodworking, computers or cooking. But once you sta rt investing even part-time effort into your own business, you will find how muc h more exciting it is to get up in the morning and go to work on your fortune, e ven if you re only spending a few hours a week doing it.

How empowering it is to be able to go to work on your fortune every day rather t han going to work to pay the rent. Now it is noble to go to work to pay the rent , but if you could also parcel out part of your time, go to work to make your fo rtune. Your whole attitude changes. Your spirit changes. It is in your voice. It is in your face. It is in your gestures. And then you can say, I am now working full time on my job and part time on my fortune because I found a way to make pr ofits. Wow! And I will know what you mean. Vitamins for the Mind by Jim Rohn Journals Be a collector of good ideas, but don't trust your memory. "If you don't design your own life plan, chances are you'll fall into someone el se's plan. And guess what they may have planned for you? Not much. Jim Rohn Character Traits of Extraordinary Leaders by Chris Widener

When people make a decision (either consciously or unconsciously) to follow your leadership, they do it primarily because of one of two things: your character o r your skills. They want to know if you are the kind of person they want to foll ow and if you have the skills to take them further. Yes, there are other variabl es, but these are the bulk of the matter. Integrity. Integrity is that you do what you say you will. You are trust worthy. People can rely on you. You keep your promises. The one thing that will most ke ep people from following you is if they can t know for sure if you will actually t ake them where you say you will. Are you known as a person of integrity? If so, you will become an Extraordinary Leader! Thinking Like a Farmer by Jim Rohn One of the difficulties we face in our industrialized age is the fact we ve lost o ur sense of seasons. Unlike the farmer whose priorities change with the seasons, we have become impervious to the natural rhythm of life. As a result, we have o ur priorities out of balance. Let me illustrate what I mean: For a farmer, springtime is his most active time. It s then when he must work arou nd the clock, up before the sun and still toiling at the stroke of midnight. He must keep his equipment running at full capacity because he has but a small wind ow of time for the planting of his crop. Eventually winter comes when there is l ess for him to do to keep him busy. There is a lesson here. Learn to use the seasons of life. Decide when to pour it on and when to ease back, when to take advantage and when to let things ride. I t s easy to keep going from nine to five year in and year out and lose a natural s ense of priorities and cycles. Don t let one year blend into another in a seemingl y endless parade of tasks and responsibilities. Keep your eye on your own season s, lest you lose sight of value and substance. To Your Success, Jim Rohn January 28, 2013 Attitude Is Everything by Jim Rohn The process of human change begins within us. We all have tremendous potential. We all desire good results from our efforts. Most of us are willing to work hard and to pay the price that success and happiness demand. Each of us has the ability to put our unique human potential into action and to acquire a desired result. But the one thing that determines the level of our pot ential that produces the intensity of our activity and predicts the quality of the result we receive is our attitude. Attitude determines how much of the future we are allowed to see. It decides the size of our dreams and influences our determination when we are faced with new challenges. No other person on earth has dominion over our attitude. People can affect our attitude by teaching us poor thinking habits or unintentionally misin forming us or providing us with negative sources of influence, but no one can co ntrol our attitude unless we voluntarily surrender that control.

No one else "makes us angry." We make ourselves angry when we surrender control of our attitude. What someone else may have done is irrelevant. We choose, not t hey. They merely put our attitude to a test. If we select a volatile attitude by becoming hostile, angry, jealous or suspicious, then we have failed the test. I f we condemn ourselves by believing that we are unworthy, then again, we have fa iled the test. If we care at all about ourselves, then we must accept full responsibility for o ur own feelings. We must learn to guard against those feelings that have the cap acity to lead our attitude down the wrong path and to strengthen those feelings that can lead us confidently into a better future. If we want to receive the rewards the future holds in trust for us, then we must exercise the most important choice given to us as members of the human race by maintaining total dominion over our attitude. Our attitude is an asset, a treasu re of great value, which must be protected accordingly. Beware of the vandals an d thieves among us who would injure our positive attitude or seek to steal it aw ay. Having the ation of a the world es all the right attitude is one of the basics that success requires. The combin sound personal philosophy and a positive attitude about ourselves and around us gives us an inner strength and a firm resolve that influenc other areas of our existence.

Vitamins for the Mind by Jim Rohn Discipline Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment. The best time to set up a new discipline is when the idea is strong. One discipline always leads to another discipline. All disciplines affect each other. Mistakenly the man says, "This is the only ar ea where I let down." Not true. Every letdown affects the rest. Not to think so is naive. Discipline is the foundation upon which all success is built. Lack of discipline inevitably leads to failure. Discipline has within it the potential for creating future miracles. Vitamins for the Mind is a weekly sampling of original quotes on a specific topic taken from The Treasury of Quotes by Jim Rohn. Disappointment Is Opportunity in Disguise by Harvey Mackay Handling disappointment is one of life's little challenges, and often an indicat

ion of how we deal with adversity at work as well. Anyone who has been in busine ss can tell war stories about the bumps in the road. But if they've outlasted th e competition, ask for their stories about survival. They've figured out how to turn disappointments into opportunities.

Lose one of your best customers? Bummer. But it's not necessarily a defeat. Find out why their orders are going elsewhere. If you messed up, fix what you can an d resolve not to make the same mistake again. If the purchasing manager has a ne w brother-in-law who sells for your competition, well, that's not a disappointme nt anymore. That's your new challenge. Just don't lower your expectations. If yo u expect nothing, that's exactly what you'll get. Didn't get the promotion? Be honest with yourself. Were you right for the job? W as it right for you? Do you have a future with the company? Use your disappointm ent to do some soul-searching. If there were two qualified people ahead of you, it could be a matter of timing. If you've been passed over before, it's time to quit being disappointed and recognize that you might have to jump to another lil y pad. You'll thank your old company later for helping you get out in time. Take a lesson from James Whitaker, the first American to reach the summit of Mou nt Everest. Even though he was emotionally and physically prepared, he encounter ed more than his share of disappointments: avalanches, dehydration, hypothermia, and the physical and mental fatigue caused by the lack of oxygen at 29,000 feet . Why did Whitaker succeed where so many had given in to their disappointments? "You don't really conquer such a mountain," he said. "You conquer yourself. You overcome the sickness and everything else your pain, aches, fears to reach the summi t." Achievers, like Whitaker, focus on the road, rather than the bumps in it, to rea ch their destination. OK, you're on the other side of the desk. Can't find the right person for a job? That's not a disappointment, that's a business emergency. It's time to call in the pros. I use a headhunter and an industrial psychologist for all my key hires . I can't afford to be disappointed. Is your staff underperforming? Time for another look in the mirror. Perhaps they 're as disappointed in you as you are in them. If you can make their job more sa tisfying challenging rewarding, do it. The results won't disappoint you. Next time you're on the golf course, pick up your golf ball and take a close loo k. The first golf balls manufactured had smooth covers. An avid, but broke, golf er couldn't afford new ones, so he used whatever he found along the course: beat up, nicked golf balls. His playing partners soon noticed that their smooth-cove red balls didn't fly as accurately or as far as his. What was going on? But they finally figured out what gave their friend the advantage. Today, golf balls have as many as 432 dimples. The "rough spots" enhance the bal l's distance and accuracy. Life's like that: rough spots sharpen our performance. And more often than not, the obstacles can be turned into advantages. You just can't let your disappointm ent get in the way.

He quickly responded, 'I would suggest that if you had a better plan, you w "Every life form seems to strive to its maximum except human beings. How tall will a tree grow? As tall as it possibly can. Human beings, on the other hand, have been given the dignity of choice. You can choose to be all or you can choose to be less. Why not stretch up to the full measure of the challenge and see what all you can do? Jim Rohn Vitamins for the Mind by Jim Rohn Financial Independence Shortly after I met my mentor he asked me, "Mr. Rohn, how much money have you sa ved and invested over the last six years?" And I said, "None." He then asked, "W ho sold you on that plan?" It is better to be a lender than a spender. If you depend on your company to take care of your retirement, your future incom e will be divided by five. Take care of it yourself, and you can multiply your f uture income by five. I remember saying to my mentor, "If I had more money, I would have a better plan ." He quickly responded, "I would suggest that if you had a better plan, you wou ld have more money." You see, it's not the amount that counts; it's the plan tha t counts. The Bible says that it is hard for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of heave n. It doesn't say that it is impossible! Optimistic. People don t want to follow others who think the future is bad! They w ant to follow those who can see the future and let them know that there is a bet ter place and that they can get them there! Do you see the cup as half empty? Th en you are a pessimist. Do you see it as half full? Then you are an optimist. Do you see it as totally full half air and half water? Then you are a Super Optimist ! Are you known as an optimist? If so, you will become an Extraordinary Leader! Embraces Change. Leaders are the ones who will see ngly embrace it. Followers will at first desire to need to see the benefits of change and communicate change, you won t grow! Are you known as a person will become an Extraordinary Leader! the need for change and willi stay where they are. Leaders them to followers. If you don t who embraces change? If so, you

Risk Taker. Whenever we try something new, we are taking a risk. That is part of growing though and it is imperative. Most people are risk averse. Not the leade r! They calculate the risk and what is to be gained from taking the risk. Then t hey communicate that to the followers and away they go to a better tomorrow! Are you known as a person who is willing to take risks? If so, you will become an E xtraordinary Leader! Tenacious. The tendency of the follower is to quit when the going gets tough. Tw o or three tries and their motto becomes If at first you don t succeed, give up and try something else. Not the leader! They know what good lies beyond this brick w all and they will go and get it. Then they will bring others with them! Are you known as a person who is tenacious? If so, you will become an Extraordinary Lead er! Catalytic. A leader is ultimately one who gets people going. They are able to mo ve others out of their comfort zone and on toward the goal! They can raise the p

assion, enthusiasm and the ACTION of those who would follow. Are you known as a catalyst? If so, you will become an Extraordinary Leader! Dedicated/Committed. Followers want people who are more devoted and committed th an themselves. At the first sign of lack of commitment, followers scatter for th e doors. If the leader sees the end and is bailing out, they better get out firs t. Followers follow those who will stick it out because they see the importance of the task and the goal. Are you known as a person who is committed and devoted to the goal? If so, you will become an Extraordinary Leader! It's best to start the discipline of generosity when the amounts are small. It's easy to give ten cents out of a dollar; it's a little harder to give a hundred thousand out of a million. Jim Rohn Giving is better than receiving because giving starts the receiving process. Jim Rohn Nothing teaches character better than generosity. Jim Rohn Here's what is exciting about sharing ideas with others: If you share a new idea with ten people, they get to hear it once and you get to hear it ten times. Jim Rohn Sharing makes you bigger than you are. The more you pour out, the more life will be able to pour in. Jim Rohn Somebody says, "Well, I can't be concerned about other people. About the best I can do is to take care of myself" Well, then you will always be poor. Jim Rohn What you give becomes an investment that will return to you multiplied at some p oint in the future. Jim Rohn When somebody shares, everybody wins. Jim Rohn The amount you give isn't important. What matters is what that amounts represent s in terms of your life. Jim Rohn Only by giving are you able to receive more than you already have. Jim Rohn

Goals. There's no telling what you can do when you get inspired by them. There's no telling what you can do when you believe in them. And there's no telling wha t will happen when you act upon them. Jim Rohn If you go to work on your goals, your goals will go to work on you. If you go to work on your plan, your plan will go to work on you. Whatever good things we bu ild end up building us. Jim Rohn Don't set your goals too low. If you don't need much, you won't become much.

Jim Rohn We all have two choices: We can make a living or we can design a life. Jim Rohn We all need lots of powerful long-range goals to help us past the short-term obs tacles. Jim Rohn The major reason for setting a goal is for what it makes of you to accomplish it . What it makes of you will always be the far greater value than what you get. Jim Rohn The ultimate reason for setting goals is to entice you to become the person it t akes to achieve them. Jim Rohn When Andrew Carnegie died, they discovered a sheet of paper upon which he had wr itten one of the major goals of his life: to spend the first half of his life ac cumulating money and to spend the last half of his life giving it all away. Jim Rohn Some people are disturbed by those tough days because all they have is the days. They haven't designed or described or defined the future. Jim Rohn It can be dangerous to weaken the strong in our attempts to strengthen the weak. Jim Rohn

Your Date with Destiny by Chris Widener Destiny. What a powerful word. And the great thing about it? Everyone has one! Y ou have a destiny! Another great thing about destiny? We have a significant role in shaping our own destiny! In essence, you can choose your date with destiny powerful! Your destiny is the dream that lies within you of your desired and preferred fut ure. And the things that we choose each day are what lead us to that destiny: Ou r actions, our words, our attitudes, and our relationships. They all add up to d evelop and shape that date on which we will reach our destiny. Here are some thoughts to think about as you work on shaping your Date with Dest iny: The Mental Question: Do you believe that you can achieve a life of abundance? Th e frank truth is that many people simply do not believe that they can achieve wh at lies in their heart. Success is for someone else, a better person, or a smart er person. This is not true and is perhaps the greatest obstacle we face on the journey to our destiny. If we are to achieve the abundance in life we must first believe we can, or face our own continual self-sabotage of what a college profe ssor of mine called "stinkin'-thinkin.'" Here is the truth: It doesn't matter what your intelligence is. It doesn't matter what your current resources are. It doesn't matter what you currently earn.

It doesn't matter what family you came from. Nothing in your current circumstances matters in whether or not you can achieve your destiny! Nothing! Now, your current state may make it a longer or harder jo urney than someone else, but the possibility is always there no matter what your current circumstances are. And that is the message we need to continually tell ourselves. "I can do it." No t "I can't do it." Clear vision. Do you have one of your destiny? Here are some questions to determ ine whether or not your vision is clear. Can Can Can Can you you you you describe it in intricate detail? "see" it? "feel" it? "hear" it?

Here are a couple of illustrations. Perhaps you came from a dysfunctional family and your dream is to have great mom ents with your family. Let's start with a Thanksgiving meal. Can you see each pe rson there? What are they wearing? Are they smiling? What is the conversation? C an you hear the laughter? Can you experience the joy? Can you smell the turkey? Can you see people hugging each other and saying "This was wonderful," as they l eave? Another scenario: Your Company. Can you see the large building you are in? Can y ou see the workers? Can you feel the positive attitude they have as they carry o ut their work? Can you experience the excitement as you get the quarterly result s? Can you see yourself handing out healthy bonuses that bring pleasant surprise s to your employees? This is where it begins. A clear vision of your destiny. Consider your resources . Are you aware of the resources you will need in order to set your date with de stiny? Do you know how you will go about getting them? What are your natural gif ts and talents that you have? How can you best utilize them in achieving your de stiny? What is your current level of resources? Money? Time? Emotional health? Help from others such as friends, family, employees or volunteers? What will be your needed future level of resources? And have you developed a pla n to achieve this level?

The last thing I would encourage you to do is fix a date in the future that you believe you could be living your destiny by. A real date. What this enables you to do is then begin to work backwards in setting goals to move you along the way , providing you with future points to strive for and an evaluation point to refl ect upon. Here are the points again: Answer the mental question: Do I really believe? Develop a clear vision.

Consider the resources needed. Set a date with destiny. Develop a plan to get there. One of the great liberal documents of the world is the Declaration of Independen ce. One of the great conservative documents of the world is the Constitution of the United States. We need both documents to build a country. One to get it star ted - liberal. And the other to help maintain the structure over the years - con servative. Jim Rohn Beware of those who seek to take care of you lest your caretakers become your ja ilers. Jim Rohn Taxes are our way of feeding the goose that lays the golden eggs of freedom, dem ocracy, and enterprise. Someone says, "Well, the goose eats too much." That's pr obably true. But better a fat goose than no goose at all! Jim Rohn Tyranny knows no restraint of appetite. Jim Rohn Did you ever eat a government cookie? The real genius to make a marketplace flou rish does not come from the government, it comes from the genius of the people. Jim Rohn An ancient script asks, "Would you let a man rule the city who cannot even rule his own spirit?" Sometimes we do. Jim Rohn You cannot base your life on what the government does or how your tax dollars ar e being spent. You've got to vote well, and then chart your own course; vote wel l, and then take charge of your own life. Jim Rohn Sure the government has some pounds to lose, but don't we all? Let not one appet ite accuse another. Jim Rohn Learn how to be happy with what you have while you pursue all that you want. Jim Rohn How sad to see a father with money and no joy. The man studied economics, but ne ver studied happiness. Jim Rohn

Happiness is not something you postpone for the future; it is something you desi gn for the present. Jim Rohn Some people don't do well simply because they don't feel well. Jim Rohn Some people take better care of their pets than they do themselves. Their animal

s can run like the wind and they can barely make it up a flight of stairs. Jim Rohn Make sure the outside of you is a good reflection of the inside of you. Jim Rohn Treat your body like a temple, not a woodshed. The mind and the body work togeth er. Your body needs to be a good support system for the mind and the spirit. If you take good care of it, your body can take you wherever you want to go, with t he power and strength and energy and vitality you will need to get there. Jim Rohn Take good care of your body. It's the only place you have to live. Jim Rohn If you wish to find, you must search. Rarely does a good idea interrupt you. Jim Rohn Ideas can be life-changing. Sometimes all you need to open the door is just one more good idea. Jim Rohn Ideas are information taking shape. Jim Rohn When a new idea comes our way, we must put it on our mental scales and weigh it carefully before deciding its value. Jim Rohn One of the secrets to success is ideas mixed with inspiration. Jim Rohn Nothing is more powerful for your future than being a gatherer of good ideas and information. That's called doing your homework. Jim Rohn Ignorance is not bliss. Ignorance is poverty. Ignorance is devastation. Ignoranc e is tragedy. And ignorance is illness. It all stems from ignorance. Jim Rohn What you don't know will hurt you. Jim Rohn The worst kind of arrogance is arrogance from ignorance. Jim Rohn There is an ancient script that says, "He that wishes to be ignorant, let him be ignorant." But I took off the last word and it now reads for me like this: He t hat wishes to be ignorant, let him be! Jim Rohn There are two parts to influence: First, influence is powerful; and second, infl uence is subtle. You wouldn't let someone push you off course, but you might let someone nudge you off course and not even realize it. Jim Rohn We need a variety of input and influence and voices. You cannot get all the answ ers to life and business from one person or from one source. Jim Rohn

Attitude is greatly shaped by influence and association. Jim Rohn Don't spend most of your time on the voices that don't count. Tune out the shall ow voices so you will have more time to tune in the valuable ones. Jim Rohn

"No" puts distance between you and the wrong influences. Jim Rohn You must constantly ask yourself these questions: Who am I around? What are they doing to me? What have they got me reading? What have they got me saying? Where do they have me going? What do they have me thinking? And most important, what do they have me becoming? Then ask yourself the big question: Is that okay? Jim Rohn Don't join an easy crowd; you won't grow. Go where the expectations and the dema nds to perform are high. Jim Rohn Some people you can afford to spend a few minutes with, but not a few hours. Jim Rohn Get around people who have something of value to share with you. Their impact wi ll continue to have a significant effect on your life long after they have depar ted. Jim Rohn Be a collector of good ideas, but don't trust your memory. The best collecting p lace for all of the ideas and information that comes your way is your journal. Jim Rohn The reason why I spend so much money for my journals is to press me to find some thing valuable to put in them. Jim Rohn There are three things to leave behind: your photographs, your library, and your personal journals. These things are certainly going to be more valuable to futu re generations than your furniture! Jim Rohn Don't use your mind for a filing cabinet. Use your mind to work out problems and find answers; file away good ideas in your journal. Jim Rohn Kids are curious. Kids are watching ants while adults are stepping on them. Jim Rohn

How many languages can a child learn? As many as you will take the time to teach them. Jim Rohn Even kids can get started on becoming financially independent. Kids can make pro fits long before they can legitimately earn wages.

Jim Rohn Of course, kids should pay taxes. Tell little Johnny that if he wants to ride hi s bicycle on the sidewalk instead of in the mud, he's got to pay three more penn ies when he buys a candy bar. Jim Rohn Kids ought to have two bicycles: one to ride and one to rent. Jim Rohn Kids don't lack capacity, only teachers. Jim Rohn I teach kids how to be rich by the time they are age 40; 35 if they are extra br ight. Most kids think they are extra bright, so they go for the 35. Jim Rohn What should a child do with a dollar? Here's one philosophy: It's only a child a nd it's only a dollar, so what difference does it make? Wow, what a philosophy! Where do you suppose everything starts for the future? Here's where it starts it starts with a child and a dollar. You say, "Well, he's only a child once. Let him spend it all." Well, when would you hope that would stop? When he's fifty a nd broke like you? Jim Rohn If kids clearly see the promise, they will gladly pay the price. Jim Rohn The challenge of leadership is to be strong, but not rude; be kind, but not weak ; be bold, but not a bully; be thoughtful, but not lazy; be humble, but not timi d; be proud, but not arrogant; have humor, but without folly. Jim Rohn We must learn to help those who deserve it, not just those who need it. Life res ponds to deserve, not need. Jim Rohn

My mentor said, "Let's go do it," not "You go do it." How powerful when someone says, Jim Rohn Good people are found, not changed. Recently, I read a headline that said, "We d on't teach our people to be nice. We simply hire nice people." Wow! What a cleve r short cut. Jim Rohn A good objective of leadership is to help those who are doing poorly to do well and to help those who are doing well to do even better. Jim Rohn If you share a good idea long enough, it will eventually fall on good people. Jim Rohn Leadership is the challenge to be something more than average. Jim Rohn Leaders, whether in the family, in business, in government, or in education, mus t not allow themselves to mistake intentions for accomplishments.

Jim Rohn Learn to help people with more than just their jobs; help them with their lives. Jim Rohn Sometimes those who need it the most are inclined the least. Jim Rohn In leadership we teach: Don't send your ducks to eagle school because it won't h elp. Duck finishes eagle school, sees his first rabbit, makes him a friend. Jim Rohn Start with where people are before you try to take them to where you want them t o go. Leaders must understand that some people will inevitably sell out to the evil si de. Don't waste your time wondering why; spend your time discovering who. Jim Rohn Lead the way by personal example and by personal philosophy. Jim Rohn Leaders must not be naive. I used to say, "Liars shouldn't lie." What a sad wast e of words that is! I found out liars are supposed to lie. That's why we call th em liars - they lie! What else would you expect them to do? Jim Rohn Managers help people to see themselves as they are. Leaders help people to see t hemselves better than they are. Jim Rohn When dealing with people, I generally take the obvious approach. When someone sa ys, "This always happens to me and that always happens to me. Why do these thing s always happen to me?" I simply say, "Beats me. I don't know. All I know is tha t those kinds of things seem to happen to people like you." Jim Rohn We could all use a little coaching. When you're playing the game, it's hard to t hink of everything. Jim Rohn Lifestyle is the art of discovering ways to live uniquely. Jim Rohn Let others lead small lives, but not you. Let others argue over small things, bu t not you. Let others cry over small hurts, but not you. Let others leave their future in someone else's hands, but not you. Jim Rohn Some people have learned to earn well but they haven't learned to live well. Jim Rohn Lifestyle is not an amount; it's a practice. Jim Rohn

Earn as much money as you possibly can and as quickly as you can. The sooner you

get money out of the way, the sooner you will be able to get to the rest of you r problems in style. Jim Rohn One of the reasons why many people don't have what they want is neglect. Jim Rohn We've all heard the expression, "An apple a day keeps the doctor away." Well, I' ve got a good question for you: What if it's true? Wouldn't that be easy to do to eat an apple a day ? Here's the problem: It's also easy not to do. Jim Rohn Neglect starts out as an infection then becomes a disease. Jim Rohn Cardiovascular problems alone in America create over a thousand funerals a day.. .and 90% of the problem is neglect. Jim Rohn There is no greater leadership challenge than parenting. Jim Rohn If you talk to your children, you can help them to keep their lives together. If you talk to them skillfully, you can help them to build future dreams. Jim Rohn Leadership is the great challenge of the '90s in science, politics, education, a nd industry. But the greatest challenge in leadership is parenting. We need to d o more than just get our enterprises ready for the challenges of the twenty-firs t century. We also need to get our children ready for the challenges of the twen ty-first century. Jim Rohn Some people are careful with their customers and careless with their children. Jim Rohn It takes time to build a corporate work of art. It takes time to build a life. A nd it takes time to develop and grow. So give yourself your enterprise, and your family the time they deserve and the time they require. Jim Rohn

Americans are incredibly impatient. Someone once said that the shortest period o f time in America is the time between when the light turns green and when you he ar the first horn honk. Jim Rohn The twin killers of success are impatience and greed. Jim Rohn How long should you try? Until. Jim Rohn Some people plant in the spring and leave in the summer. If you've signed up for a season, see it through. You don't have to stay forever, but at least stay unt il you see it through. Jim Rohn

As the day goes by, we choose to do whatever we think is valuable. Jim Rohn Whether the decisions we are making will lead us toward inevitable success or un avoidable failure depends on the information we have gathered over the years to form our personal philosophy. Jim Rohn How quickly and responsibly we react to adversity is far more important than the adversity itself. Jim Rohn Those who do not learn from the mistakes of the past are condemned to repeat-the m. Jim Rohn The key is to find unique humans beings whose personalities and achievements sti mulate, fascinate and inspire us, and then strive to assimilate their best quali ties. Jim Rohn Great projects are always built from a pattern or blueprint. Jim Rohn

Often the most extraordinary opportunities are hidden among the seemingly insign ificant events of life. If we do not pay attention to these events, we can easil y miss the opportunities. Jim Rohn We must first master the art of listening before our spoken words will have any great value to others. Jim Rohn The important question is this: In the last ninety days, with this treasure of i nformation that could change our lives, our fortunes, our relationships, our hea lth our children and our careers for the better, how many books have we read? Jim Rohn How do we explain the fact that only 3% of our entire national population posses s a library card a card that would give us access to all of the answers to succe ss and happiness we could ever want? Jim Rohn Reading is essential for those who seek to rise above the ordinary. Jim Rohn The habit of reading is a major stepping stone in the development of a sound phi losophical foundation. It is one of the fundamentals required for the attainment of success and happiness. Jim Rohn A life worth living is a life worth documenting. Jim Rohn It is the small disciplines that lead to great accomplishments. Jim Rohn Neither success or failure occurs in a single cataclysmic event. Both are the re

sult of the accumulation of seemingly small and insignificant decisions whose co llective weight over the period of a lifetime presents the individual with his o r her proportionate reward. That is why each of us must make a commitment to dev elop our full human potential, one discipline at a time, one book at a time, and one small entry in our journal at a time. Jim Rohn Only by actively pursuing new knowledge can we sufficiently refine our personal philosophy and change not only our own lives but also the lives of those around us. Jim Rohn The formula for success is easy to follow: ry day . Jim Rohn A few simple disciplines practised eve

We cannot allow ourselves the luxury of indulging any error day in and day out. Jim Rohn All disciplines affect each other. Every new discipline affects all of our other disciplines. Every new discipline that we impose on ourselves will affect the r est of our personal performance in a positive way. Jim Rohn The key is to keep looking for every small discipline we can find that will caus e us to refine our thinking, amend our errors and improve our results. We must c ontinue looking for even the most insignificant of those errors in judgement tha t could be converted into a new discipline. Once the discipline cycle is started , our efforts will begin to feel the effect, leaving tangible rewards in their w ake as they make a hasty retreat. Jim Rohn With the right attitude human beings can move mountains. With the wrong attitude they can be crushed by the smallest grain of sand. Jim Rohn Having the right attitude is an essential prerequisite for success and happiness . The right attitude is one of the fundamentals of the good life. That is why we must constantly examine our feelings about our role in the world and about our possibilities for achieving our dreams. Jim Rohn The more excited we become by our future dreams, the easier it is to develop the necessary disciplines and make the refinements to our philosophy. Jim Rohn How we see ourselves is a matter of choice, not circumstances, and the major det ermining factor in how we feel about ourselves lies in our personal philosophy. Jim Rohn The people with whom we choose to associate are a major source of what we know a nd how we feel. Jim Rohn Reasons come first and answers come second. When the human mind locks onto a per sonal obsession it does not need a book of instructions or a training class on h ow to take advantage of opportunity. Jim Rohn

In the world of opportunity mixed with challenge, there are those who want to kn ow so that they might see, and there are those who think they see even though th ey do not yet know. Jim Rohn It is the student who must seek out the teacher, for rarely does a good idea int errupt us. Success moves toward those who search for progress, not toward those who need or want it s rewards. Jim Rohn Whatever life has handed to us, whether it is one talent or a hundred, it is our responsibility to do something with what we have been given. Jim Rohn Convert knowledge and good feelings into activity. Jim Rohn We must find ways to demonstrate on the outside all of the value that we possess on the inside otherwise, our values will remain unappreciated and our talents u nrewarded. Jim Rohn Every time we choose to do less than we could, this error in judgement has an ef fect on our self-confidence. Repeated everyday we soon find ourselves not only d oing less than we should, but also being less than we could. Jim Rohn Many of the answers take time to discover. Jim Rohn We must discipline ourselves to convert dreams into plans, and plans into goals, and goals into those small daily activities that will lead us, one step at a ti me, toward a better future. Finally, we must use the power of our imagination. Jim Rohn Everything we have acquired is a result of past efforts and past thoughts. Jim Rohn For things to change, we must change Jim Rohn that is one of life s fundamentals.

Our objective must be to work harder on ourselves, than we work on anything else . Jim Rohn Those who efforts have produced a poor result often have a lengthy list of reaso ns to justify their poor progress. Reasons = Excuses. Jim Rohn If our want to is strong enough, then we will be driven to seek solutions. As we invoke the power of creativity and intensify our efforts to conquer each new pr oblem, we actually speed up our progress. Jim Rohn It is not what happens that determines the quality of our lives, it is what we c

hoose to do about what happens. Jim Rohn Sometimes the best prescription for a poor attitude is activity. Jim Rohn Many have learned to earn well, but they have not yet learned to live well. It i s as though they have decided to wait until they become wealthy before they star t practicing sophistication. What they fail to understand is that practiced soph istication is as much a cause of wealth as it is a result of wealth. Until they have discovered that happiness is part of the cause and that wealth is merely an effect, their circumstances are not likely to change. Jim Rohn Lifestyle is a reflection of our attitude and our values. Jim Rohn Lifestyle is really nothing more than the art of doing ordinary things extraordi narily well. Jim Rohn We can all afford to live better. It doesn t take more money to change how we live . It takes more deliberate thought and a greater appreciation of the real values in life. Jim Rohn Happiness is an art, not an accident. It is not something that falls out of the sky. Jim Rohn

Learn to be happy with what you have while you strive for what you want. Jim Rohn Each of us can design our own life happiness. Jim Rohn If we cannot learn to be happy with what we have right now, then we will never b e happy no matter how much good fortune comes our way. Jim Rohn We must not let the years, and the chances, and the small opportunities for crea ting moments of joy slip away. If we continue to wait until we have the resource s to do the big things before we master the art of experiencing all that life cu rrently has to offer, then we may find that we have waited too long. Jim Rohn We must challenge ourselves right now with a new level of thinking, and drive ou rselves to a new level of achievement. Jim Rohn We must impose upon ourselves a new discipline, and develop a new attitude about life that motivates us and inspires others. Jim Rohn You must learn to translate wisdom and strong feelings into labor. Jim Rohn The miracle of the seed and the soil is not available by affirmation; it is only

available by labor. Jim Rohn Make rest a necessity, not an objective. Only rest long enough to gather strengt h. Jim Rohn Without constant activity, the threats of life will soon overwhelm the values. Jim Rohn America is unique because it offers you an economic ladder to climb. And here's what's exciting: It is the bottom of the ladder that is crowded, not the top. Jim Rohn In America we have the greatest chance for opportunity than anyone else in the p ast six and a half thousand years. Never in recorded history have so many differ ent gifts been brought from all over the world and deposited in one country. Jim Rohn In America, everything you need to succeed is within reach. Jim Rohn Asking is the beginning of receiving. Make sure you don't go to the ocean with a teaspoon. At least take a bucket so the kids won't laugh at you. Jim Rohn There is no better opportunity to receive more, than to be thankful for what you already have. Thanksgiving opens the windows of opportunity for ideas to flow y our way. Jim Rohn I resolve says, "I will." The man says, "I will climb this mountain. They told m e it is too high, too far, too steep, too rocky, and too difficult. But it's my mountain. I will climb it and you will soon see me waving from the top or dead o n the side from trying." Jim Rohn Disgust and resolve are two of the emotions that lead to change. Jim Rohn Success is neither magical nor mysterious. Success is the natural consequence of consistently applying basic fundamentals. Jim Rohn There are no new fundamentals. You've got to be a little suspicious of someone w ho says, "I've got a new fundamental." That's like someone inviting you to tour a factory where they are manufacturing antiques. Jim Rohn

Success is nothing more than a few simple disciplines, practiced every day; whil e failure is simply a few errors in judgement, repeated every day. It is the acc umulative weight of our disciplines and our judgements that leads us to either f ortune or failure. Jim Rohn Most homes valued at over $250,000 have a library. That should tell us something .

Jim Rohn Everything you need for your better future and success has already been written. And guess what? It's all available. All you have to do is go to the library. Bu t would you believe that only three percent of the people in America have a libr ary card. Wow, they must be expensive! No, they're free. And there's probably a library in every neighborhood. Only three percent! Jim Rohn Miss a meal if you have to, but don't miss a book. Jim Rohn Some people claim that it is okay to read trashy novels because sometimes you ca n find something valuable in them. You can also find a crust of bread in a garba ge can, if you search long enough, but there is a better way. Jim Rohn Some people read so little they have rickets of the mind. Jim Rohn It isn't what the book costs; it's what it will cost if you don't read it. Jim Rohn I now have one of the better libraries. I ll admit that I haven't read everything in my library, but I feel smarter just walking in it. Jim Rohn Books are easy to find and easy to buy. A paperback these days only costs six or seven dollars. You can borrow that from your kids! Jim Rohn Don't just read the easy stuff You may be entertained by it, but you will never grow from it. Jim Rohn

The book you don't read won't help. Jim Rohn My father taught me to always do more than you get paid for as an investment in your future. Jim Rohn Whether you stay six weeks, six months, or six years, always leave it better tha n you found it. Jim Rohn Don't bring your need to the marketplace, bring your skill. If you don't feel we ll, tell your doctor, but not the marketplace. If you need money, go to the bank , but not the marketplace. Jim Rohn We get paid for bringing value to the marketplace. It takes time to bring value to the marketplace, but we get paid for the value, not for the time. Jim Rohn Here's the major problem with going on strike for more money: You cannot get ric

h by demand. Jim Rohn If you make a sale, you can make a living. If you make an investment of time and good service in a customer, you can make a fortune. Jim Rohn Don't just let your business or your job make something for you; let it make som ething of you. Jim Rohn Lack of homework shows up in the marketplace as well as in the classroom Jim Rohn Where you start in the marketplace is not where you have to stay. Jim Rohn

The worst days of those who enjoy what they do are better than the best days of those who don't. Jim Rohn I used to say, "I sure hope things will change." Then I learned that the only wa y things are going to change for me is when I change. Jim Rohn Don't say, "If I could, I would." Say, "If I can, I will." Jim Rohn It doesn't matter which side of the fence you get off on sometimes. What matters most is getting off. You cannot make progress without making decisions. Jim Rohn We generally change ourselves for one of two reasons: inspiration or desperation . Jim Rohn If you don't like how things are, change it! You're not a tree. Jim Rohn One of the best places to start to turn your life around is by doing whatever ap pears on your mental "I should" list. Jim Rohn Indecision is the thief of opportunity. Jim Rohn Every life form seems to strive to its maximum except human beings. How tall wil l a tree grow? As tall as it possibly can. Human beings, on the other hand, have been given the dignity of choice. You can choose to be all or you can choose to be less. Why not stretch up to the full measure of the challenge and see what a ll you can do? Jim Rohn Decision making can sometimes seem like inner civil war. Jim Rohn

The goal of effective communication should be for the listener to say, "Me, too! " versus "So what?" Jim Rohn Learn to express, not impress. Jim Rohn It's not the matter you cover so much as it is the manner in which you cover it. Jim Rohn Be brief on the logic and reason portion of your presentation. There are probabl y about a thousand facts about an automobile, but you don't need them all to mak e a decision. About a half dozen will do. Jim Rohn Better understated than overstated. Let people be surprised that it was more tha n you promised and easier than you said. Jim Rohn For effective communication, use brevity. Jesus said, "Follow me." Now that's br ief! He could be brief because of all that he was that he didn't have to say. Jim Rohn You cannot speak that which you do not know. You cannot share that which you do not feel. You cannot translate that which you do not have. And you cannot give t hat which you do not possess. To give it and to share it, and for it to be effec tive, you first need to have it. Good communication starts with good preparation . Jim Rohn Effective communication is 20% what you know and 80% how you feel about what you know. Jim Rohn What is powerful is when what you say is just the tip of the iceberg of what you know. Jim Rohn If you just communicate, you can get by. But if you communicate skillfully, you can work miracles. Jim Rohn

Don't mistake courtesy for consent. Jim Rohn It's so easy to make a mistake in language if you aren't careful. What if you me ant to say, "What's troubling you?" and what you actually said was, "What's wron g with you?" Jim Rohn Real persuasion comes from putting more of you into everything you say. Words ha ve an effect. Words loaded with emotion have a powerful effect. Jim Rohn Be careful of using inside lingo on the outside world. Jim Rohn

Take advantage of every opportunity to practice your communication skills so tha t when important occasions arise, you will have the gift, the style, the sharpne ss, the clarity, and the emotions to affect other people. Jim Rohn Communication is the ability to affect other people with words. Jim Rohn The more you know, the less you need to say. Jim Rohn Don't be afraid to borrow if someone else has said it well. Winston Churchill sa id, "The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it and ignorance may derid e it, but in the end, there it is." That's so well said. You could stay up all n ight and not think of that. Jim Rohn The best advice I ever came across on the subject of concentration is: Wherever you are, be there. Jim Rohn When you work, work. When you play, play. Don't mix the two. Jim Rohn

Give whatever you are doing and whoever you are with the gift of your attention. Jim Rohn On the way to work, concentrate on the way - not on the work. Jim Rohn Pay attention. Don't just stagger through the day. Jim Rohn Debate refines a good idea. That's why we have two major parties in Congress. So mebody says, "I have a great idea for the country." We say, "Wonderful! Put it o n the table. Let's debate." And we start the debate by questioning the guy who h as this great idea. After the third question he says, "I withdraw my great idea. I forgot about those three questions." Jim Rohn There is plenty of time to argue with new ideas later. The key is to take carefu l notes first and debate second. Jim Rohn Always be willing to look at both sides of the argument. Understanding the other side is the best way to strengthen your own. Jim Rohn We need to teach our children how to debate the major life issues. Debate streng thens their beliefs and enables them to defend themselves against ideologies tha t are going to come their way. Jim Rohn Humans have the remarkable ability to get exactly what they must have. But there is a difference between a "must" and a "want." Jim Rohn

The best motivation is self-motivation. The guy says, "I wish someone would come by and turn me on." What if they don't show up? You've got to have a better pla n for your life. Jim Rohn When you know what you want, and you want it bad enough, you will find a way to get it. Jim Rohn

Motivation alone is not enough. If you have an idiot and you motivate him, now y ou have a motivated idiot. Jim Rohn Without a sense of urgency, desire loses its value. Jim Rohn Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment. Jim Rohn We must all suffer from one of two pains: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret. The difference is discipline weighs ounces while regret weighs tons. Jim Rohn One discipline always leads to another discipline. Jim Rohn Affirmation without discipline is the beginning of delusion. Jim Rohn You don't have to change that much for it to make a great deal of difference. A few simple disciplines can have a major impact on how your life works out in the next 90 days, let alone in the next 12 months or the next 3 years. Jim Rohn The least lack of discipline starts to erode our self-esteem. Jim Rohn All disciplines affect each other. Mistakenly the man says, "This is the only ar ea where I let down." Not true. Every let down affects the rest. Not to think so is naive. Jim Rohn Discipline is the foundation upon which all success is built. Lack of discipline inevitably leads to failure. Jim Rohn Discipline has within it the potential for creating future miracles. Jim Rohn The best time to set up a new discipline is when the idea is strong. Jim Rohn We must learn to apply all that we know so that we can attract all that we want. Jim Rohn Learning is the beginning of wealth. Learning is the beginning of health. Learni

ng is the beginning of spirituality. Searching and learning is where the miracle process all begins. Jim Rohn If someone is going down the wrong road, he doesn't need motivation to speed him up. What he needs is education to turn him around. Jim Rohn Don't see the mind for more than it is, but don't misread it for all that it can be. Jim Rohn Sharpen your interest in two major subjects: life and people. You will only gath er information from a source if you are interested in it. Jim Rohn Education must precede motivation. Jim Rohn While you are in school, make sure you get the information. What you think about it, that's up to you. What you are going to do with it, that will soon be up to you. But while you are there, make sure you get it. In fact, my advice is - Don 't leave school without it! Jim Rohn Never begrudge the money you spend on your own education. Jim Rohn

If you step up the self-education curve, you will come up with more answers than you can use. Jim Rohn Emotions will either serve or master, depending on who is in charge. Jim Rohn Our emotions need to be as educated as our intellect. It is important to know ho w to feel, how to respond, and how to let life in so that it can touch you. Jim Rohn Civilization is the intelligent management of human emotions. Jim Rohn Measure your emotions. You don't need an atomic explosion for a minor point. Jim Rohn Women have an incredible ability to pick up on emotional signals. For example, t here are some wolves that are so clever they have learned to dress up like sheep . Man says, "Looks like a sheep. Talks like a sheep." Woman says, "Ain't no shee p!" Jim Rohn Show your contempt for the problem and your concern for the person. Jim Rohn Be sensitive to the plight of others. You have to know about the tragedies as we ll as the triumphs, the failures as well as the successes. Jim Rohn

You can t change people, but you can change yourself. Jim Rohn Mistakes are the experience from which we can learn. Jim Rohn

Wisdom uninvested in labour is wasted. Jim Rohn However many springs you have given to you, take advantage of them all. Jim Rohn Think winter through the summer and summer through the winter. Jim Rohn The more you give out the more you grow. Jim Rohn Design life Jim Rohn don t just live it.

Dreams shape our future. Jim Rohn Poverty is a curse Jim Rohn Reward people for small steps of progress. Jim Rohn There is nothing so powerful as an idea whose time has come. Jim Rohn Set your sails to make the most of whatever wind may blow. Jim Rohn

Each of us needs all of us. Jim Rohn Self esteem is the greatest building block of success. Jim Rohn One lack of discipline creates a character reaction. Jim Rohn Learn from a successful person s experience to change your own results. Jim Rohn Ask more of yourself. Jim Rohn The window of opportunity doesn t stay open forever. Jim Rohn Take full responsibility for your harvest.

Jim Rohn Vitality plays an important role in success. Jim Rohn Honour your spiritual side. Jim Rohn Don t neglect to feed the mind. Jim Rohn

Become the best you possibly can. Jim Rohn Be a student of good ideas. Jim Rohn There is no substitute for reading books. Jim Rohn We should all be students of the marketplace. Jim Rohn Let life affect you. Jim Rohn Take the treasure of the past and invest it in your future. Jim Rohn Good taste is an education. Jim Rohn Happiness is an art study it! Jim Rohn Create joy. Jim Rohn Be a student of life. Jim Rohn

Success is not money or style, but the progressive realisation of your own goals . Jim Rohn You can always work smarter. Jim Rohn It s not what happens, it s what you do about it. Jim Rohn Find something and leave it better than how you found it. Jim Rohn The greatest source of unhappiness comes from the inside. Jim Rohn

Become a millionaire not for the million dollars, but for what it will make of y ou to achieve it. Jim Rohn Risk being a fool to become a winner. All winners were originally beginners. Jim Rohn Limitations are always psychological. Jim Rohn There are no failures, only learning experiences. Jim Rohn If you will change, everything will change around you. Jim Rohn

Treat someone better than you want to be treated. Jim Rohn Contemplate the past; design your future. Jim Rohn Do what you resolve to do. Jim Rohn Persistence is self-discipline in action. Jim Rohn Attract the people to help you achieve extraordinary things. Jim Rohn Use a recipe for success, don t try to recreate the wheel. Jim Rohn Some things you have to do everyday. Eating seven apples on Saturday nights inst ead of one a day just isn t going to get the job done. Jim Rohn Financial independence is the ability to live from the income of your own person al resources. Jim Rohn Design your life. Jim Rohn Happiness is not an accident. Nor is if something you wish for. Happiness is som ething you design. Jim Rohn

Happiness is the art of learning how to get joy from your substance. Jim Rohn Move up to a better place to gain a better vantage point. Jim Rohn

Success is not to be pursued; it is to be attracted by the person you become. Jim Rohn Goals work like magnets; know what information you need to achieve your aims. Jim Rohn Be happy with what you have while pursuing what you want. The key to happiness i s not more. Jim Rohn The good life is not an amount; it s an attitude, an act, an idea, a discovery, a search. Jim Rohn Resolve: To promise yourself you will never give up. Jim Rohn The only way things are going to change for you is when you change. Jim Rohn Work harder on yourself than you do on your job. Jim Rohn You should make sure that the outside of you is a good reflection of the inside of you. Jim Rohn Time, effort and imagination must be summoned constantly to keep any relationshi p flourishing and growing. Jim Rohn You cannot change your destination overnight, but you can change your direction overnight. Jim Rohn Everyday has many opportunities, but only one best opportunity. Jim Rohn Surround yourself with the best people. Don t join an easy crowd you won t grow. Go where the expectations and the demands to perform are high. Jim Rohn Successful people look for relationships with other successful people who will p ush them, challenge them and encourage them to become better. Jim Rohn Successful people surround themselves with winners, optimists and people with po sitive attitudes. Jim Rohn Life is a long journey and we meet people all long the way. Some of those people will go the whole journey with us. Some will only take portions of the journey with us. Some will join us for a long time. Others will come and go Now imagine if you were on a trip and someone started out with you, but wasn t much help. Woul d you want them to continue the journey with you? Of course not. We have the fre edom and responsibility to determine who we associate with, and that will have a big impact on how well our journey goes. Jim Rohn

Be a life long learner. Jim Rohn Formal education will make you a living. Self-education will make you a fortune. Jim Rohn All of life is sales. Jim Rohn

One key to having influence with others is to have others perceive you as a pers on of talent and virtue. Jim Rohn Income seldom exceeds personal development. Jim Rohn What you become directly influences what you get. Jim Rohn All communication brings the common ground of understanding. Communication is tw o or more people working together to find the common ground of understanding. An d when they find that common ground, they are positioned to have tremendous powe r together. Jim Rohn The world can always use one more great leader. Jim Rohn To lead others is to help them change their thoughts, beliefs and actions for th e better. Jim Rohn Leave a legacy. Jim Rohn Live a life that will help others spiritually, intellectually, physically, finan cially and relationally. Live a life that serves as a example of what an excepti onal life can look like. Jim Rohn Leaders are readers. Jim Rohn You are what you read.
