OBJECT
The object of Aeschylus: The Game is to move around the
board by correctly answering trivia questions. Questions are
taken from all three plays of the Oresteia trilogy, including the
Agamemnon, the Libation Bearers, and the Eumenides, and
from Aeschylus’s life and tragedy in general. Questions must
be answered as fill in the blank trivia, from a selection of four
different choices, or by deciding whether the statement given
on the card is true or false.
EQUIPMENT
• Game board
• Deck of trivia cards
• 4 player tokens
• 1 standard die
SETUP
1) Give each player one player token and set it on the
start space at the House of Atreus.
2) Place the trivia cards on the space on the board
3) The player whose birthday is coming up next starts the
game by answering a trivia question correctly and
rolling the die. Play then continues clockwise.
GAME PLAY
On each turn, a player has a chance to answer the question on
one card and advance along the board. The die is rolled to
determine what space is moved to if the player successfully
completes a question. Whether the question is answered
successfully or not, turn always ends after one card.
Player to your right picks up a trivia card from the pile and
reads the question aloud. If you answer the question correctly
on your turn, roll the die and move player token ahead the
number of spaces you rolled. If answered incorrectly, do not
move. Turn is over after each question, whether answered
correctly or incorrectly.
WINNING
Correctly answer more trivia questions correctly than the
other players and be the first individual player to reach the
law courts of the Areopagos. The first player to reach the
Court of the Areopagos wins the game.
PENALTIES
Any player moves back 5 spaces for:
• Announcing a guess out of turn;
• Announcing more than one guess within the same turn;
or
• Helping another player guess an answer. (Remember...
they are the enemy).
