USA PORT CONGESTION SURCHARGE EFFECTIVE 5TH OCTOBER 2012

14th September 2012 Dear Valued Customer Shipping Lines operating in the USA trade lane have advised that a Port Congestion Surcharge has been filed as a precautionary measure with the Federal Maritime Commission. This is due the threat of Industrial action in various US ports, which would inevitably cause congestion and delays if it occurs. If the surcharge is imposed, it will be applied to all shipments loading or discharging at US Ports during the period of labour unrest. The industrial action includes but is not limited to a strike, lock-out, work stoppage or slow-down that would affect productivity and cause congestion at the terminals. It would be applied from 5th October 2012 until the shipping lines advise the congestion issues have been resolved.

The Port Congestion Surcharge will be: USD 800 / 20 GP USD 1000 / 40 GP USD 1125 / 40 HC USD 20 / CBM LCL cargo If there is no labour disruption, the surcharge will not be imposed. Should you have any questions relating to the above or require further information, please contact your local VISA Global Logistics representative.
