Introduction:
Energy is a prime mover of economic growth; the Government will undertake its actions based on the five guiding principles.

Energy sources

Energy usage

10-Year Alternative Energy Development Plan

Wind Power

Wind Power
Wind power is the conversion of wind energy into a useful form of energy. Advantages: Wind is free and renewable; does not cause greenhouse gases or other pollutants Takes up only a small plot of land Disadvantages Produces only a small amount of energy The strength of wind is not constant

How it works

SGC Wind Energy

SGC Wind Energy

SGC Wind Energy Co.,Ltd. is a project envisaged in Huasai district of Nakorn si Thammarat province, Thailand. SGC Huasai Wind Farm NST1, will be located on 90.4 acres (365835.8 sq.m.) of land procured in Huasai district. The project will comprise 6 wind turbines of 1.5 MW capacity each with total installed capacity of 9.0 MW

Solar Power

Solar Power
Solar power is the conversion of sunlight into electricity, either directly using photovoltaics (PV), or indirectly using concentrated solar power (CSP). Advantages: Free, renewable, and pollution free. Life span of about 30-40 years Disadvantages: EXPENSIVE!!! Takes up space Only available when the sun is shining

Photovoltaics (PV)

Concentrated Solar Power (CSP)

How It Works

Lopburi Solar Plant

Lopburi Solar Plant

Lopburi Solar Plant is located in Lopburi Province in central Thailand, 150 kilometres north of Bangkok. It is one of the worlds largest solar photovoltaic plants, with a capacity of 55MW.

Hydro power

Hydro power
Hydropower or water power is power derived from the energy of falling water, which may be harnessed for useful purposes. Advantages: Once a dam is built, it can provide electricity at a constant rate. A dam can last a very long time and the lake formed by the dam can be used for leisure activities and Disadvantages: irrigation. The natural environment and the communities surrounding the dam are destroyed. Dams are extremely expensive.

How It Works

Hydro power in Thailand

Bhumibol Dam Sirikit Dam

Ubol Rat Dam

Hydro power in Thailand

There are many dams in Thailand including Bhumibol Dam, Sirikit Dam, Ubol Rat Dam, Srinagarind Dam, Pa Sak Cholasid Dam, etc. Many dams have become places for leisure activities and parks.

Biofuel

Biofuel
A biofuel is a type of fuel whose energy is derived from biological carbon fixation. Biofuels include fuels derived from biomass conversion, as well as solid biomass, liquid fuels and various biogases. Advantages: Biofuels are cheap because they can be made from a wide range of materials that are renewable. They reduce carbon emissions. Disadvantages: Many resources are used to make biofuels, they can cause rise in prices and shortage. They have a low energy output.

How Its Made

Biofuel in Thailand

Biofuel in Thailand
The Bangchak Biofuel factory is located at Ayuttaya province. It is an integrated renewable energy company focusing on biodiesel production Biodiesel capacity 300,000 L/day Glycerin capacity 30,000 kg/day It makes biodiesel from palm oil.

Natural Gas

Natural Gas
Natural gas is a naturally occurring hydrocarbon gas mixture consisting primarily of methane, with other hydrocarbons, carbon dioxide, nitrogen and hydrogen sulfide. Natural gas is found in deep underground natural rock formations Advantages: Produces less emission than oil or coal. Cheap Disadvantages: Because it is a non renewable source of energy, its availability is finite. Is highly flammable and can be dangerous if handled carelessly.

Where Does It Come From

How Is It Dug Up

Chevron

Chevron
Chevron is the top natural gas and crude oil producer in Thailand, supplying about one-third of the country's demand. The Platong II project is among their leading investments globally. The project is expected to produce 18,000 barrels per day of natural gas liquids.
