This European Standard has been prepared under mandate M115 given to CEN by the European Commission and the European Free Trade Association and supports essential requirements of the EU Construction Products Directive (89/106/EEC). For relationship with the EU Construction Products Directive, see informative annex ZA, which is an integral part of Part 1 of this European Standard and by which it becomes a harmonized European Standard. EN 10138 is published in four parts, the other parts being: EN 10138-1, Prestressing steels Part 1: General requirements EN 10138-2, Prestressing steels Part 2: Wire EN 10138-3, Prestressing steels Part 3: Strand All products placed on the market within the European Union and EFTA must be certificated in accordance with annex ZA of Part 1 of this European Standard. In accordance with the common rules of CEN/CENELEC the following member countries are obliged to adopt this standard: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom.

The nominal modulus of elasticity may be taken as 205 GPa (kN/mm ) for as rolled and as rolled stretched and tempered bars and the secant 2 modulus between 5 % and 70 % of the specified characteristic maximum force may be taken as 165 GPa (kN/mm ) for as rolled and stretched bars. For plain bars the mass is calculated from the nominal cross-sectional area and a density value of 7,85 kg/dm . For ribbed bars the mass includes the ribs and may vary according to the rib profile. For ribbed bars the cross-sectional area does not include the non-bearing portion of the ribs.
3

The specified characteristic 0,1 % proof force ,Fp0,1, is approximately 81 % of the specified characteristic maximum force, Fm, for 1100 MPa and 1030 MPa nominal tensile strength bar and approximately 88 % of the specified characteristic maximum force , Fm, for 1230 MPa nominal strength bar. P - plain; R - ribbed. 1 MPa = 1 N/mm .

7.1.2.2

Evaluation of test results of a test unit

A test unit shall be deemed to conform to the requirements of this Part of this European Standard if all the results are greater than or equal to the specified value for the mechanical properties (except maximum value of maximum force) and within the tolerances for the maximum force and the geometrical properties. If this condition is not met, the following procedure shall be applied: a) when at least one result for the maximum force is lower than the specified value, the mean value of the individual results from the test unit shall be calculated. The test unit shall be deemed to conform to the requirements of this Part of this European Standard if this mean value is greater than or equal to the specified value. Otherwise, the test unit shall be rejected and the manufacturer shall immediately take the measures to rectify the fault. b) when a result for the 0,1 % proof force is lower than the specified value, two additional samples shall be taken. These samples shall be submitted to tensile tests. The mean value of the three individual results shall be calculated. The test unit shall be deemed to conform to the requirements of this Part of this European Standard if this mean value is greater than or equal to the specified value. Otherwise, the test unit shall be rejected and the producer shall immediately take the measures to rectify the fault. c) when results for properties specified by a minimum and/or a maximum value are not in accordance with the requirements, two additional samples shall be taken from the test unit concerned by each failed result. If the two additional results conform to the requirements, the test unit shall be deemed to conform to the requirements of this Part of this European Standard and no further check is needed. If at least one of the two additional results does not conform to the specifications, the concerned unit of product shall be rejected. All units of product with non conforming results shall be rejected and the producer shall immediately take the measures to rectify the fault. 7.1.2.3 Assessment of long term quality level

The requirements in prEN 10138-1: 2000, 7.1.2.2 shall be met.

7.2

Initial type testing

The requirements in prEN 10138-1:2000, 7.2 shall be met.

7.3

Continuous surveillance

The requirements in prEN 10138-1:2000, 7.3 shall be met.

Delivery by the manufacturer

Delivery conditions shall be in accordance with clause 9 of prEN 10138-1:2000 and the following requirements: a) b) bars shall be supplied in straight lengths; until delivered to the purchaser, the manufacturer shall give adequate protection against damage to threaded ends.
