Elie Wiesels social purpose in writing Night was bringing to peoples attention how terrible the Holocaust was and to educate readers about the injustices he has gone through and how it changed the victims. FACT: Wiesel often makes speeches regarding the Holocaust, including when he spoke at the Days Of Remembrance ceremony in 2001 and 2002. CAIM: Wiesel gives many speeches about what he has gone through to make sure people can learn from what has happened and realize how terrifying this ordeal was and how much of an effect it had on people. EXCERPT: From the depths of the mirror, a corpse was contemplating me. The look in his eyes has never left me, (Wiesel 115). FACT: Wiesel founded the Elie Wiesel Foundation for Humanity to educate and fight injustice with an association rooted on the Holocaust. CLAIM: Wiesel created an organization based on the Holocaust so people worldwide would understand how much pain Holocaust victims have gone through and what it has done to them to promote understanding. EXCERPT: I spent my days in total idleness I no longer thought of my father, or my mother, (Wiesel 113). FACT: The many books written by Wiesel describe in great detail the circumstances of the Holocaust and how it affected the people who went through it. CLAIM: The details of how badly the imprisoned people were treated and how the horrible experiences have taken a toll on them help readers better understand the tragic event. EXCERPT: [When my father died] I did not weep, and it pained me that I could not weep. But I was out of tears, (Wiesel 112).
