GRAB-ala A Parabola

1) Find a picture that contains a parabola (see picture above) or take a picture with your laptop. 2) Save this picture. 3) Open Sketchpad a. In the Graph Menu select Show Grid b. In the Edit Menu select Paste Picture c. Plot at least 10 points on the parabola part of the picture using the point tool from the toolbox. d. Using the black arrow, select all the points. (Make sure only the points are selected.) e. In the Measure Menu select Coordinates. 4) Use your graphing calculator to find the equation: a. Go to STAT. In the EDIT menu select EDIT b. Enter the x-coordinates into L1 and the Y-coordinates into L2. c. Go to STAT. Move over to the CALC menu and select 5:QuadReg. d. Hit ENTER. Your a, b, and c values should appear. 5) In Sketchpad: a. In the Graph Menu select Plot New Function. b. Type in your function. c. Change the thickness of the curve by selecting thick in the DISPLAY menu. d. Print out your results and hand in.
